Club Dinner

What would be the interest/ possibility of organising some form of club (sportsman’s) dinner.

It’s something I hear allot about from clubs like Motherwell and accies. Don’t know how profitable they are.

Basically the club put on a dinner, the players turn up, as well as coaching staff, and some legends, and the fans, everyone eats drinks and gets merry.

Can tie in some auctions and raffles.

Do it on the night of the rovers game and have something a fair bit more classier than the POTY night.

As well as some cash generation it will surely do allot to bring everyone together and get a feeling of unity among players, fans and the club?

Even the OF seem to have these as I was reading about one from Celtic or Rangers in the paper a week or so ago. They auctioned off various bits of memorabilia, a golf day with some players or coaching staff who play and also the chance to be the assistant manager at some pre-season friendly. If we did similar with proceeds going to McCall's budget you would imagine someone might stick their hand in their pocket.

Do the business club maybe do something similar and we've not noticed? It would certainly be a good night out and could raise a lot of money for the club if priced right.

Think it's a great idea.

As it is, the Player of the Year format is, in my opinion, pretty poor and isn't very enticing for supporters; go along, see a few trophys given out for 10 minutes, the players bugger off and we're left sitting drinking shitey pints of Fosters that cost double the price. Oh, and we need to pay for the privilege.

In the past, by all accounts, the Player of the Year was a great night where the players socialised with the fans and weren't looking at their watches, counting down the seconds until they could get out the place. I appreciate football has changed since then and there is, for some reason, a divide between the players and the supporters. However, it is hardly asking much for the players to stick about, perhaps postpone their end of season night out, and have a night with the people who pay their wages.

An after dinner speakers night in the Alan Rough Lounge would be ideal. Could even designate the players to different tables, have a bit of banter and a few jars with them. As Munkey says, auctions and raffles can be included to raise an extra bit of dosh for the gaffer.

Don't have a problem helping out if any assistance is required. :thumbsup2:

When I was on the JT Board i suggested we steal the POTY nights used by Airdrie and others.

Fans buy seats at a table leaving one seat spare and the players and management draw numbers and sit at the table number they draw for the presentation of the POTY prizes (should be able to spin it out to an hour or so.

They also have a small buffet and some beers provided on the tables and run auctions and raffles and other stuff like that to raise cash. Charge £10 a head for it and its good to go :)

That was something I would want to use aswell, 1 or 2 players or coaches per table get the banter and chat going.

I've emailed Ami, cause I can't find a direct email for Beattie

We'll see what happens

Good luck with this as it sounds like something that would attract more people than the normal POTY event and if it can raise funds for the manager that would be great as well.
