lady-isobel-barnett
All three parties have been involved in productive discussions for some time on the subject of league reconstruction. This culminated in a positive meeting last night, out of which the two league bodies will now engage in a wider consultation with their member clubs. The discussions are based on the key principles for reconstruction outlined in the Henry McLeish Review of Scottish football: * One league body in the senior game * Promotion/relegation play-off between SPL and SFL First Division * Single financial distribution model * Pyramid system, with the potential for relegation from and promotion to the fourth tier Further consultation will take place in the near future, with the aim of reaching a positive outcome on a new model to take Scottish football forward. If this has nothing to do with the current situation regarding newco I'd be welcoming it as a step in the right direction. If, as the timing may indicate, it's dependent on newco being treated as a special case then it's a despicable action.
Trotter
This 'near future' nonsense, how long is a piece of string? A likely SPL 'no' vote happens on Wednesday 4th July, an application then needs to be made to SFL for a newco membership of SFL. What happens if Spartans/Rob Roy/Fort William say, also want entry the SFL with the knock on created by the Company previously known as Rangers Football Club? Does there not have to be time for these applications to be assessed before being voted on? How long does that take? When does a vote take place? Unless this meet has decided the all possible outcomes but that's not to say Rob Roy etc will take it? Possible legal action. What about Livi who threatened legal action depending on the outcome of what league a version of RFC will play in? What about the transfer ban of newco that was appealed by the new/old RFC? When will that decision of what happens now be announced? Or has the announcement of a new preliminary round in the Scottish Cup pre-empted that? It seems with leakings and quotes from various boardrooms that the clubs are not united behind the scenes and this joint statement is telling us nothing. Bottom line is reconstruction is a must but not be to accomodate any new entrant or newco into the Scottish Senior Leagues. Money talks from Sky TV deals etc but it talks from fans also. A wrong decision here and Scottish Football is not just a laughing stock but it will die a slow death. Any newco must reapply and start at the bottom of the chain, then the SFA, SFL and SPL club chairman can talk about league reconstruction. Anything less and sporting integrity is lost. The SFL especially are missing a trick here as they hold all the aces if/when SPL chairman vote no on 4th July. However it seems many are chasing the quick fix and the money, our own BOD included! Lindau
Fact is that never in a million years would this have been considered but for the NEWCO situation. I am all for the changes, with NEWCO battling it out with Spartans/Cove or whoever else is interested for the spare place in Div 3. if any other club in Scotland outwith NEWCO and Sellik had got up to the shenanigans that the Southside Bigots have, there would have been no restructuring of leagues, it would have been, apply for membership to Div 3 with the other interested parties and take your chance. The whole thing stinks! Edited June 23, 2012 by Lindau
McKennan
It's bollocks, isn't it? More Scrapheap Challenge than professional football. Two sets of pram wheels, a couple of old orange crates, a bag of carpet tacks, a couple of rubber bands, a tube of Evostik and *hey presto*, the latest addition to the Ferrari GT range. ClydebankJag
We have heard bugger all about the McLeish Report since it came out but now it is the driver for change? If they try and rush through 'reform' this summer to come into effect immediately do they really think we are daft enough not to know that it was prompted solely to save Rangers in some capacity? Change should come through the need to improve things, not as a form of blackmail/self preservation. Let's implement the changes next summer. Lindau
Let's implement the changes next summer. Aye with NEWCO (if they are voted in over any other applicants) kicking off in the lowest league
lady-isobel-barnett
Aye with NEWCO (if they are voted in over any other applicants) kicking off in the lowest league I wouldn't see it as a compromise if the lowest was a 20 club league. True newco would now be out the SPL only two seasons but it would give enough time to reorganise the upper tiers into something more fan friendly. .
