Two Divisions - Possible Newco Solution

I am in favour of larger divisions with decent promotion relegation possibilities.

Two divisions with regional below that seems popular, but could not be enacted 2012/13 season (any changes would be diffcult for 2012/13) as some teams would be relegated without the opportunity to compete.

The worry with newco going to the bottom tier seems to be financial meltdown.

I am only throwing the following in for discussion but if the bottom tier for 2012/13 was the second tier?

Suppose two division for 2012/13. size 20/22. At the end of the season 4 down (or whatever) and 2 up. Then we have a top tier of 18 for 2013/14. The relegated clubs + the top 14 make the second tier. Below that regional.

Future promotion relegation first to second 3 up 3 down (could include a play off) second tier to regional not sure.

Just a thought as I wait for the SPL vote!

I have supported two divisions of 21 clubs, and so posted on several restructuring threads, for several years. Simply allowing Newco (with assets worth over £100 million bought for a bargain £5.5 million) to join the lower division would not acceptable. Newco would have play in the Juniors or another league for 3 years before applying for a vacancy.

So there would be a spare team each week? No thanks.

In previous seasons under the current structure, teams have had at least one weekend without a game. There is also the possibility of having a top league of 20 clubs with a lower league of 22.

I wouldn't mind either of these options to be honest. In a 21 team league you would have 40 games with only two game weeks off. In a season where there are 40 league games these two weeks (or midweeks if you're lucky!) off would probably be a welcome rest for players.

The 20/22 might work better though, as those in the top league will tend to last longer in cup competition and the two games less might suit the top league.

Personally I think this is the way forward (with newco in the bottom i.e. 2nd tier, possibly even with a promotion ban for a year). I'd make it 20 and 22 - and we'd have something resembling a proper league.

However, the SPL shower would block it for removing the 4-OF games per season they currently cash in on in perpetuity.
