  1. Complete agree - this team have consistently won must-win games, and shown a lot of courage - especially for a young team. This also reflects well on the management and leadership on the park. It also sounds like a number of players have improved over time - quite a few were run-of-the-mill div 1 players, albeit with potential less than 2 years ago. They now seem to be competent at this level. Think our goal difference also shows that we can be even more competitive than several rivals next season, and perhaps raise expectations for top 6. Happy days.
  2. I loved Duffy as a player with us, he shouldn't get grief from Jags fans. One of the best penalty box defenders I ever saw, v rarely beaten despite having no knees!
  3. V poignant indeed. Had a scouse mate who'd been at hillsborogh that day, went to lot of l'pool games with him in the 90s subsequently, and also lived in sheffield as a student between 89 and 92, and so took a big interest in the shockingness of what happened. The cover ups etc, no doubt abetted by the then government and associated scummy media, have made it almost unreal at times. Fair play to dignified folk like Dalglish and the Hicks guy for keeping it about the families and hopefully final justice. Sorry, all a bit mornid.
  4. Doesnt affect us staying up so am not really bothered
  5. Worst individual display was by a guy called Fulton in a 4-2 defeat at Brockville in 92-93, then obviously Mottram v DU for not giving the goal to them was just farcical. Syme was the worst in 'my era', his pro-H*n credentials so blatant. The top refs like Dallas, Valentine, and McGinley (whatever else went on with him) were much better than the usual lot. Sounds like we're at a nadir now though - down in England the main ones like Webb seem thoroughly competent but the 'media glare' and garbage like Mourinho and Allardyce use them to abdicate responsibility. I always warm to Moyes and Martinez, who might make a point about a decision or two, but ultimately take responsibility for results. I think Archie is in this class as a bloke if not (yet!?!) as a manager.
  6. Guess my other thoughts here are 1. Did Paton lead in a way we now miss. 2. Would him an Osborne be ideal. So is maybe Welsh and / or Craigan not really good enough attacking wise (in a league full of Paton / Osborne equivalents) to offset their lack of defensive quality. Really depressing - am saying we need more aggression / bite etc. and only some are saying we'd do better with Erskine. Football = the new rugby. Lots of big / strong / fast people who have no ability. So there you have it, the perfect circular argument with no coherence from me. Sorry guys! Hope we f-ck Hibs.
  7. Wasn't worried when paton left - believed that he would be easy to replace. This has been proved wrong - a tough guy with leadership ability on and off the park would in my view be v helpful - as we seem to be getting out-muscled / overrun at times, don't seem to be organised at set pieces, and the heads go down a bit when we go behind, or when pressure doesn't lead to goals. So whatever the daftness around his departure (led mainly by him) it looks like he was a big loss.
  8. Agree with loads of these Other belters for me were 6-0 at Shawfield in c 1984 , 3-1 at love street in 1988, 2-0 home win v Killie to stay up and (i think keep them down - about 1987? Finally going up in 1992 in a dreadful home 0-0 v Forfar or Brechin Old firm double in 92-93 the 2-1 at parkhead was amazing as shaw scored so late - huge away support that day went ballistic Metz support and french reaction 3-2 at fir park in 92-93 after being 2 down 5-1 v pars last season - best ive ever seen us play Worst ever Ayr home relegation - thought that was it for us - missed du away thankfully Two 4-1 defeats v clyde in same season when they shared firhill in the 80s 5-1 defeat at broomfield under Lamont in 80s 5-2 home defeat to morton under johnstone 7-3 home defeat v saints (who went on to get relegated) under rooney? Most visits to ibrox Hearing that mojo had been sold to watford - we would have won the league by 20 points that season if he had stayed
  9. Quite surprisingly there are 2 in my street here in Brighton, a guy from Bishopbriggs and me from west end. And we have four kids between us so hopefully that's another 4 despite the scepticism of our partners. My pal knows how to get thistle matches on internet which has led to a couple of terrible hangovers. There is at least one other who apparently goes to watch Brighton at 'the Amex' - 36 quid a pop by the way, which is why i dont!
  10. I would think that if we come in top 8 (or hopefully top 2) then there's a big chance Archie will be tapped. Althpugh clearly a man of fibre (unlike others) it's too much to expect a guy with a managerial career in mind not to leave for 'bigger things'. The signs are that he's incredibly capable, and given that we're not exactly going to make him financially secure for life, he'll go in the summer if we continue to do well, and if tradition is observed, take Paterson with him. Let's hope that at that stage the board continue with their excellent recent appointments, yes even McNamara, and we're secure enough to keep / sign good players. And of course, have enjoyed the best season ever.
  11. No one should moan at the games with this team or manager. It's a young team who've done us proud. The management team likewise. Hope guys like Forbes don't read some of the sh-te posted here. We've seen plenty of players who don't care and too many managers like Campbell who didn't care about football. They got grief and fair enough. From the board to the manager to the the players, they're doing their job amazingly well and we're 3rd in the league. F-ckin' magic!!!

  13. Fantastic!!!! Makes up for some of the points we should have had. Booze now
  14. Have scottish teams overturned 2-0 deficits in europe? Memory v poor but can only think of celtic 5 lisbon 0 in the 80s - an era when cold weather and stadiums was enough to see of eg portuguese. Cant remember adeen doing it despite some amazing pittodrie nights - nor the h*ns or arabs. Did dundee once beat cologne about 8-0 to turn a tie round in the 60s? Sorry, not a thistle post i know.
  15. Ps beattie definitely, terrible. Probably burchill too - hated him at hampden in 99
  16. Ha aye if only Our current team would do fine against this pack of pish
  17. Cheers - v interesting - well, to a boring pr-ck like me. Is he the key man then? Obviously amongst some v good players. Does his shouting or positional sense make the big difference?
  18. So it's Kennedy Stockdale Anderson Wilkie Caldwell Ferguson Holt Gemmill Aitken McSwegan Iwelumo ??? That is a pish team
  19. Cheers ian mac - that is truly incredible. Hope he's fit soon. Used to think that paul lambert had stats like that - v unglamorous player but when he played scotland (and presumably celtic, dortmund) seemed to be v controlled. Dont get to games much but wonder if welsh has that sort of influence - at pur level obviously.
  20. Mump - not heard of him but probably better than spencer or mcswaegan
  21. (players must have at least a few caps) Douglas Anderson; Caldwell; Webster. Wilson, Iain; Aitken; Holt; Ferguson, Derek. Spencer; McSwegan; Speedie. Am sure there is far worse - have blotted much of the past decade from my mind. Probably need a lot of web research to do this justice
