  1. Careful what you wish for Twinny. In 1972 I interrupted my holiday and drove a 104-mile round trip from Bournemouth to Portsmouth and it ended 0-0.
  2. Impressive though these figures are, they are probably influenced by the current financial state of Dunfermline and their appeals to fans to get behind the club and St Mirren fans who see the opportunity of a fresh start to rebuild under a new manager after a very disappointing season. On the face of it no other club suffers from geographical proximity to Celtic and Rangers as much as Thistle (we seldom "have Glasgow to ourselves" as old newspaper reports used to say) but it's easy to make too much of this. Are there any "floating" fans nowadays? I think not. Unless we can consistently break the 3,500 - 4,000 barrier every week and/or find someone to invest sustainably in the club to take it to a higher level (egg-chicken, chicken-egg), then hovering around the bottom 6 is likely to be all that we can realistically hope for - an achievement in itself. Hanging on in there until the enough Weir youngsters come of age is essential. Paradoxically, there aren't many teams that regularly take around 25%-30% of their home core support to away matches so the commitment is there - if not the numbers. Perhaps Mr Fox has a point after all, but I doubt he'll find it any easier in Dingwall.
  3. Looked them up and noticed that 2 of their previous managers are Sammy Crooks and Brian Fidler!
  4. PT, 23 eliminations out of 117 (20%) have been at the QF stage. 20 after one match, 2 after a replay and 1 after a 2nd replay.
  5. ICT's win on Saturday means that it is the 34th time in 117 eliminations that Thistle have been beaten by a team on the way to winning the cup or being beaten finalists (21 and 13 times respectively). No idea how that stacks up against other clubs' record. 14 of these defeats were by a one goal margin. What might have been?
  6. Grass looks lush and most likely a 1-0 win at Fir Park in the League Cup 22 August 1981. Rough, MacKinnon, Whittaker, Campbell, Anderson, Watson, McDonald, Doyle (J), Johnston, O'HARA, Clark. (Lapsley.)
  7. John Brough? Don't know the name of the guy in the hoodie.
  8. If that proves to be the case how will the the Main Stand seating arrangements work? If Rangers are promoted and there are 2 home games against Celtic, there could be 3 or even 4 league games that will see ST holders moving to the main stand. First come first served? Get there early to find a seat without a pole obscuring the view? Allocated a seat at random by the club? How communicated and what documentation? Choose a seat having been shown the "big board" - always assuming you can make it to the offices? Do it on-line - assuming you have access to the internet? None of the above?
  9. They could have read out the whole of "War and Peace" and you wouldn't have heard it! Firhill must have the worst public address system in Scottish football. The last few weeks have been getting steadily worse with the announcer doing his Norman Collier impressions. Sort it out please, Thistle.
  10. If it is Forfar, they have played 25 times at Firhill since 1971. Agreed it's not the promotion-winning match and we can discount the post-JHS/Floodlights/offices refurbishment matches so that narrows it down. Judging by the short sleeves if you assume it's early or late in the season, it could be:- 3.4.76 (4-2) 4.5.85 (1-1) 26.9.87 (1-1) 6.5.89 (4-1) Bloke in the right hand corner looks thoroughly bored!
  11. Agree with the comments about the atmosphere at the 5-1 game. We've only had 1 win and 3 draws against Celtic at Firhill in the last 27 games so it's not as if were leaving "Fortress Firhill" vulnerable.
  12. George Shaw? If so, he only played twice v St Johnstone at Firhill. Either 17 October 1992 (1-0) or 2 October 1993 (4-1).
  13. Please, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no!!! Unless it is an absolute last, last resort as the liquidators are driving up Firhill Rd, no plastic pitch!
  14. In October 1952 a scribe in the Evening Times fired a shot across Thistle supporters' bows. "Only" 10,000 had attended the recent Raith Rovers game and he suggested that they would only have themselves to blame if the Board were forced to sell Alex Stott to make ends meet. My, how times have changed!
  15. Sorry JD. Didn't see your post coming in while I was researching. The OH gives the goal to Cunningham but the few press reports I've seen give it as an og by Barry.
  16. Cunningham played in 10 games v Dunfermline at Firhill. Since it looks like a "0" on his shirt, he only played at No 10 twice. 11 Feb 67 was 0-0 so as it looks as if Thistle/Cunningham have just scored, it looks like:- Scottish Cup tie 18 Feb 1967. (1-1). Thistle: Niven, Tinney, Muir, Cumming, McKinnon, Gibb, Flanagan, McParland, Rae, Cunningham, Duncan. Dunfermline: Martin, Callaghan, Alex "We had 10 corners, they had 2" Totten, Thomson, Fraser, Barry, Edwards, Paton, Delaney, Ferguson, Robertson. (Lost the replay 1-5).
  17. There were 3 games v Hearts in 93/94. Law played in all 3, but Britton only once. Looks like him behind Jamieson. So... 23 October 1993. [That date rings a bell somehow.] 0-0. Thistle: Nelson, Law, Milne, Watson, Jamieson, Taylor, Shaw, Craig, Grant, Britton, Cameron. (English.) Hearts: Walker, McLaren, McKinlay, Levein, Hogg, Weir, MacKay, Leitch, Colquhoun, Johnston, Johnston. Ref: Mr Bonkle from Dallas.
  18. Think it could be St Mirren at Love St. Don't know the Thistle players but the defender looks like Jim Clunie.
  19. All valid points and probably no single answer. Just produced the statistics to stimulate debate. You'd need a GCHQ computer to factor in all the snags mentioned.
