He would still be there if Beattie hadn’t set the sheriff officers on his board representative

What financial position are we in? Do you know things us mere mortals don’t? The board have said they had no complaints about the way the previous board were running the club. Any club in Scotland would take Colin Weir at their club in a heartbeat yet we have a board that chased him out because of a takeover that seems more unlikely than likely to happen and fans that think it’s not a good situation to have him around the club. Unbelievable!!

And its good to chase a multi millionaire out of a club our size? You are correct but it’s not any different than a director dipping into his pocket to get a manager a player that he needs, outwith the clubs budget. The director takes the hit as does Colin Weir. They fund it. That’s what happens in football. . Definitely wont be happening at our club now. If this takeover doesn’t happen I look forward to Beattie and Co giving whoever is the manager a budget to get us out of a relegation dogfight in January!!

Where we are today is down to Beattie sacking Colin Weirs rep on the board. Although never appearing on the accounts I have no doubt that Colin Weir has helped with money outwith the academy and that any overspend caused by the old board saying they would fund the last 3/4 players of Caldwells squad would probably have been underwritten by Weir.

The guy needs a reality check. Even in the Top 6 season I wouldn’t imagine the jags fans at any home game would have exceeded 3500. The hopes of a cup run are unlikely given the squad is incomplete and we don’t have a prolific strike force. Being honest, unless there is a complete change of mind by someone we are looking at mid to bottom level of this league this season and that will probably see a further reduction in gates!

Well that is Mission Impossible isn’t it. As I said in my original piece any supporter that thinks it’s better NOT to have a multi millionaire at a club our size has completely lost the plot. Now I am not saying the takeover (if it happens) might not be the best thing that has ever happened to the club, nobody knows that. Then again, nobody knows whether it might end up a total disaster and risk the whole structure and existence of the club. Better, in my opinion with a safe pair of hands, in the shape of Colin Weir. All that has happened since Beattie has come back is that the club has become a total laughing stock for the rest of Scottish football, the manager has an incomplete squad because money promised to him has been directed to plug a funding gap, we are told there is as much chance of the takeover not going ahead as going ahead and that contrary to reports the shareholders were not unhappy with the way the previous board were running the club. Honestly you couldn’t make it up!!

Finding it hard to hold my tongue on this subject, so making a short term return to post these two views from different sportswriters that sum up my feelings on the matter. How anyone can argue that having a multi millionaire benefactor at a club our size is a bad thing is frankly nuts!! ONLY in Scottish football would a club chase away a multi- millionaire diehard fan with a wide-open wallet in favour of a foreign consortium who haven’t yet put up a penny. But that’s where Partick Thistle find themselves this morning. There’s not a board in the land — maybe on the planet — who wouldn’t want the kind of sugardaddy who arrived in the shape of Colin Weir, the lotto rollover winner whose investment made the Jags debt-free and who’d put £6million aside to build a training academy. Yet last week, he cut all ties in the wake of ex-directors calling in Sheriff Officers, current directors being binned, the players having their team bus taken away and more. Now it appears that all Firhill’s eggs are in the basket dangled by Chinese-American tycoon Chien Lee and his consortium. On paper, they sound big time. On paper, them taking over the club could be the best thing that ever happened to Thistle. But on paper, the same went for Hearts, for Airdrie, for Raith, for Livi and more — and all of these ended up in the grubber, with their self-styled saviours nowhere to be seen. Me? If I was sitting in that Maryhill boardroom and the choice was between a fan putting up enough for my club to stay in the black, stay at the heart of the community and sustain a realistic level within the game, that’d do me fine. Here’s hoping for their sake that they make that homespun attitude look silly. AND PARTICK Thistle directors should be flogged for allowing EuroMillions winner Colin Weir to slip through their hands. Having put £2.5million into Thistle with another £6m pledged for the academy, Weir was the most important person at Firhill bar none. At a time Jags’ players are having to drive to away games, the loss of the multi-millionaire is a hammer blow to Gary Caldwell’s future plans. As for the proposed takeover by billionaire Chinese American Chien Lee? If that turns out to be a good deal for Thistle, I’ll eat my hat.
  9. Returned to JLS last night after half a season in the JHS. When in JHS the tannoy is crystal clear but it was a muffled mess last night in the JLS so thanks for posting the winning tickets Martin. Club need to get that sorted, could hardly even hear the teams last night!

  11. Just popping in to clarify something. The Night with the GC? It is Gemma Collins we are talking about? Is her boyfriend Arge attending? If so I suggest we get there early as the buffet might disappear mega quick.
  12. Joke announcement today re the collecting of the first prize, though rectified before the 2nd half commenced!! Surely cant be that difficult for the club to come up with between £400-£500 in notes to pay on the day to the successful person.
  13. An slight improvement but still ludicrous that you cannot pick up your winnings after the game! As for the signed ball for 2nd prize, that has run its course and needs changing as well!! https://ptfc.co.uk/ptfc-news/50-50-draw-prize-collection/
  14. Agreed, its very strange why they cant just pay it out there and then.
  15. They usually announce after the draw that winnings can be collected from main office from the following Monday. Although not in the same league as your claim BB I won the 2nd prize last December, this time it was a box of Quality Street. Went to office after the game, was told I had to leave it till Monday. My son went up on the Monday. They said they couldnt find it. Went in on the next home game and was told they had no idea where the box had went to. Didnt even get offered the statuary signed ball which I would have given to the nearest child. Just ripped the ticket up there and then and told them to forget it. The club do appear to be very lax when it comes to these things!!
  16. Martin any news on any shake up on the prizes? The signed ball has frankly run its course. There have been plenty suggestions on here but change seems to be reluctant. If say the prize is £500 why not £400 to winner £80 to 2nd and £20 to 3rd. If you get 3rd you are basically getting a free game and it would keep the interest going. Well done to all the sellers yesterday. It was bloody baltic if you werent in the sun.
  17. Davy Elliot Saddened and gutted that John Lambie has passed away. A boss and a friend. An advisor and a legend. He made my footballing years with @ThistleTweet happy ones. He was always there when I needed him. Mr Partick Thistle has left us all with happy memories. RIP gaffer #yellowandred 1:43 PM - Apr 10, 2018 Not sure when it was filmed but a nice wee interview with Lambini on Jagzone where he has a laugh about Toastie and Davy now being coppers. They are both about 5ft 7in, he laughed......lol
  18. Think we all knew this day was coming sooner rather than later but it is still gut wrenching. In Lambini speak he grabbed the club by the f*cking nuts and pulled it back from the brink. The back to back promotion seasons can only be bettered by 23/10/71. Don't think anyone can believe that he managed that after the trauma of what had happened to the club. Have some great memories of chatting to him at POTY dances. A real down to earth character. Hopefully it will be drummed into the players that it is essential that we don't go down in the year that we lost the great man. The renaming of the North Stand to the John Lambie Stand is a great shout and hopefully the board will take it on board. RIP gaffer!
  19. I will do AJ. For the first time since the Morton game I will be in the JHS for the Killie game as I am meeting a few long lost mates and they have ST for JHS. Will be back in the North for the first home split game. Will look out for you!
  20. I will make a short guest appearance just to respond. Thanks AJ. What a brilliant plaque to remember Roberts short, but eventful life. A fantastic effort from everyone involved.
  21. Have edited that to take out the ball and the pint. Think that was a good idea M'Lady. Voucher might encourage someone to buy a jersey, t shirt, etc and will at least get them into the shop. Prizes 4-6 will take another £20 or so out the kitty but I think that would be covered by extra tickets (hopefully) being bought!
  22. Final comment from me but why not offer a few more prizes. I know it means a bit more admin work. Based on say £500 available for prizes 1) 70% (£350) 2) 20% (£100) 3) 10% (£50) 4) £10 voucher to spend in club shop 5) 5 free HT draw tickets next game only 6) Free programme for next game only Would create a bit more interest if announced in reverse order. Just feel at the moment the minute the first prize is announced the interest is lost and even getting the 3rd prize would cover the whole day out with a few drinks thrown in. As a punter that regularly throws a minimum of £5 in at every home game and not had a sniff I think more might be encouraged if more prizes were available.
  23. Well I had to come back one last (and it is last) time to say....BOOM!! What a way to bow out. Got 7/1 at the track. 260 smackers back for my £25 ew punt. Hope you were on Charlie, Fox, Eleven and everyone else. Lots of bumping and barging in the final 2 furlongs and I thought the favourite was gonna get up. Thankfully it didn't. All the best guys!
