The theory is that this guy allows your more offensive players to stick to their strengths. A good player in this position will also cover the full back spaces when they get caught up the park, allowing the centre backs to retain their positions and not look silly. Think of the old Italian sweeper role, but in the middle of the park.

That would be potentially one of the best signings in this division. I'm more inclined to believe that we're being hospitable and offering him training facilities. Anyone know what the story is with his contractual problems over the last year or so? Is he really a free agent now?

Considering 2001 was only about 4 years ago in my head, this lad is developing fast. A real bright spot so far this season. Great result last night, never going to complain about us winning 5-0. Should be good for the confidence and great to see a few guys getting off the mark for us early.

I seem to remember Doolan starting slowly for the last few years. Wouldn't hurt to have some competition for places up there. Or anywhere.

Archie isn't getting the bullet this week, or next. The board made their decision to retain him, and it would pretty much amount to complete madness on their part to go back on that after 1 league game. Who wants to work for a board with that sort of record, for not a great deal of money? We all know what it looks like on the field, though.

The lineup should be interesting if we don't get another RB in. I have the fear about Spittal at RWB, although Ayr's preference for playing in the channels last Sat might lend towards playing 3 at the back against them. Well this thread has fair brightened my Monday morning. Still July and we're relegated again already. What a bunch of duds we've signed. Erskine and Doolan are done.

Thought Melbourne looked alright against us and Hamilton when I saw him. Maybe a bit lightweight, but he's still very young. Good to have a bit of cover on the left anyway.
