  1. Could you tell me what is so different with the SNP? They have frozen council tax - right of centre policy. They attract support from Monaco living Jim McColl, and support from Section 28 supporter Brian Soutar and Salmond has just been round Gulf States of differing levels of democracy and human rights to get the petrol fuelled money. He also admitted that he did not mind the economic side of Thatcher policies. http://www.scotsman.com/news/alex_salmond_scotland_didn_t_mind_thatcher_economics_1_1086679 He is not as different as he would have us imagine.
  2. People bitch and moan about the bogey(wo)man but I don't see many parties - Labour, Liberal Democrats, Nationalists advocating reversing many of her policies. A tweak here and there but not much else.
  3. It's areas like this that I think the club should get the fans involved. We know the club is skint but if they organised some power hoses, mops and buckets and asked for volunteers I'm sure we'd get numbers to quickly turn it around. I know AFC Wimbledon get volunteers for activities like this especially before the start of the season to help spruce up and maintain the ground. Saying that anyone who is reading this with some power hoses or works for a cleaning firm?
  4. *Got my dates mixed up and gave a reply for something already passd!*

  7. Jaggernuat. If there is independence I doubt there will be a High Speed Train link to Scotland. Who would pay from Manchester up north especially before the border? The English Parliament would not want to pay for it or have much demand for it. Scotland would need it more so we would have more and more stand off's of that nature as we fight between who should pay and indeed who would pay. Scotland would need it built more to get to London and Europe. No Royal Navy means less ships to build on the Clyde and more closures and pain for the shipyard industry and the workers it supports. Close Faslane and the thousands of jobs it supports? You also say "continue to be misgoverned and kept at a lower standard of living than we deserve by an English-interests dominated London government?" Scotland's standard of living is very good especially when you take into account education, house prices and urban sprawl which a lot of south east England suffers from. Your tone makes me think you simply do not like the English. "English-interests dominated London government". Nationalists of any ilk like to group people together. Them and us. What is English interests? Is it South East England? Proud Yorkshire? Rural Cornwall? Industrial Midlands? Is it working class, middle class, landed gentry? London. Is it some kind of foriegn city? It could be argued as it more international than English. Multi-cultural, high immmigration, liberal with up to 100 000 Scots living in and around it. An unfounded accusation of "sense of helplessness that Westminster likes to see in Scots, to make us feel dependent and incapable of changing their cosy position." is paranoid, unsubstantative and to me wrong.
  8. I am 100% Scottish. I don't support independence.
  9. Maybe I'm more of an "internationalist" than you are as I don't care where someone is born or what accent they have to make me want to breakaway from a peaceful and strong country that has one of the most powerful economies in the world, especially as there is increasing challenges from developing nations while we get gobbled up by Brussels rule European Union with it's failed Euro. We are so interlinked - government, civil service - DVLA for example, socially, culturally, militarily. Politicians get a Parliament. They want more. They want more tax. They want more say. They want more power. Less politicians, less buraucracy. We are not going to agree on this but I welcome the debate. I just can't get Alex Salmonds over support for joining the Euro and his "Arc of Prosperity" including Ireland and Iceland which he now pretends never happened.
  10. I am proud. I am an individual. I don't need a politician based in Edinburgh to make me feel good about myself. I don't know who is saying Scotland is too small and insignificant. I don't think it is. I just don't like the idea of separation to allow nationalist politics to make a power grab and keep them in a job for life. The credit crunch an Ireland and Iceland showed a bigger economy helps us in times of major need. Scottish Parliament is in charge of Council Tax, in charge of NHS, in charge of education (which has been criticised by Education Scotland http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-15084598 ), in charge of capital projects, in charge of caring for the elderly. I have never been on my knees - an emotional and over the top comment. At a time when the EU and the Euro is in crisis and very disunited with so many countries unable to agree on Euro policy and the world is rapidly changing with the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) countries growing stronger staying in a large economy, working together in a position of strength instead of cutting ourselves off and telling the English an Welsh and Northern Irish to piss off is not an open minde way of thinking.
  11. Dalsholm pitches for all littered with rubbish and gang fighting.
  12. Anyone who is content really shows how apathetic people are and to cling on to the hope that independence will make everything sunny and happy is crazy. The SNP will have had 9 years to have made a dent in areas such as health, education and social deprivation but I expect not much will change. The East End will still be a dump, we'll still have lots of junkies and an underclass, education potters along but it's a case of where your house is and the associated school rather than intelligence of the youngster. It's the same old sh!t but different masters in a different location. As a previous poster mentioned only a fundamental change in political ideology would really affect people's lives instead of moving decision making from London to Edinburgh. Here ends a political broadcast from the Dour Party.
  13. We should definitely have this for all kids football. As for sliding tackles how many Spanish players have you seen sliding? Where did you play on the 5G turf? I have only played on 3G and like it. Checked out the 4G at Toryglen football but never got the chance to play.
  14. Topcat - it will show up here when the website is updated. http://www.ptfc.co.uk/team/christie_elliot
  15. If the club or the caterers organised a stall or two outside selling sausages like they have in the European markets that come to Glasgow and were at The Merchant City Festival they would do a roaring trade.
  16. Hats off to Blackpool Jags for his earlier comments. I don't like the chopping up of quotes from discussions on message boards as to me it happers the flow of the debate but I will reply back. No. I've felt more comfortable in places in England than in places in Scotland, but also vice versa as there is nothing quite like being home. It can be down to how rough the place is and the vibe but I think we are much more similar to the English than we care or like to admit. When I thing about "Scotland" I really think about Glasgow. I hardly know the rest of the place and to be honest I'm not that bothered about say Aberdeen or Inverness. What have I got in common with a fisherman from Peterhead or a privately educated lawyer in Edinburgh or a gaelic speaker in Skye? As much as an accountant from Manchester and a civil servant from Cambridge. I'm up every fornight these days so it's back to being part of normal life. Agreed London does skew things slightly and I want to emphasise I do not have this moral snobbery that if a place is predominantly white then it's a bad thing but things like sectariansim and obsession with nationality are not my thing and to me being part of the UK helps to dilute this. One of my good mates from Manchester is catholic. Took me six years to find out. In West of Scotland it's one of the first things you find out about people. My theory is socialism in whatever form means people expect the state to do things for them. Obviously we need public and social services but people expect others to do things for them which is wrong especially when they can do it themselves and take responsibility. Nothing wrong with criticising elements of Scotland. Does not make me a traitor. That's football and hats off for the English to get behind their team before they then tear them apart for abject performances. As for class system. You ever been to Caledonian Club in London? As snobby and class obsessed as anything in England. How many kids from Maryhill get to Edinburgh or St Andrews uni? How will Scottish kids afford to go to Cambridge or Oxford Uni now we have all this border skirmishing over uni tuition fees. That to me is keeping people "in their place". The term "Junior Partner" is used by nationalists to make out Scotland is hampered as it only has 10% of the population of England. I did Scottish history at uni. Off the top of my head 50% of Governor Generals were Scottish. Scotland punched above it's weight in military and business terms. Tom Devine who I was lucky to taught for one year has a new book out about Scottish Diaspora and while I have yet to read it it will be honest and brutally truthful which will damage the romantic notions of Scotland in the empire. English people have the same attitude as Scottish. It happened. It's in the past. I think some Scottish people have tried to gloss over what Scotland did. http://www.heraldscotland.com/books-and-poetry/reviews/tom-devine-to-the-ends-of-the-earth-scotland-s-global-diaspora-1750-2010-allen-lane-1.1116021
  17. Unfortunately I will not be in Glasgow for this event but I do implore anyone and everyone who can make it to turn up and get bums on seats. I'll even donate money to buy people some pints if that is needed. For me the question and I would like someone with more understanding to take this on further is Shares - how can people who no longer run or contribute financially to the club on a day to day basis be able to vote on important matters especially as these shares were gifted to them in the first place. I struggle with the Articles of Declaration issue but it sounds like we need change to make decision making easier and slicker. Strategic Vision - where does Mr Beattie see the club in say 5 years time? I'm not looking for a Romanov Champions League declaration but an identifiable plan for the way the club is going to pan out and that includes revenue generation. For me the ideal scenario is a combination of Hamilton and St Mirren who seem to be run well and live within their means. Stadium - Be it PropCo, be it sharing with Warriors, be it another plan. What are we going to do to maximise revenue at our stadium? We need to use it more than 4 hours a day every 2 weeks. I would not have a problem moving to a new stadium to clear debt ala St Mirren. I am also concerned about losing Warriors connection and their cash. Fans - What does Mr Beattie want from the fans to change? We cannot expect one or two people to sort everything out, if they need our help then I would like them to tell us The main thing is to understand people like Beattie and Allan are taking on a difficult job and trying their best. It's not "them and us" like it may be for some. It's a case of working together.
  18. If it involves redeveloping Firhill ala knocking down Main Stand to make smaller stand for a wider pitch or looking at building a new stadium somewhere close to Firhill - I believe the other side of Firhill basin had some early planning then I think we need to go for it. Having the rugby finances and association is very, very important and we need to ensure any stadium is used more than 4 hours every 2 weeks or so.
  19. Blackpool Jag. Your posts can be quite politically biased due to your union work so if you are talking about vhemently opposed to the formatioin of the NHS you need to add the British Medical Association was one of the most opposed. That's right. Those hero doctors. But that was 60 years ago so no point bringing it up. I don't believe the Conservatives want to dismantle the NHS. David Cameron has experienced it a lot more than I have with his late son being so ill. They want to change it as does Labour, Lib Dems and SNP. If you look at Sweden as an example as people like to make out it is some kind of paradise, ordinary people pay prescription fees, they pay to visit a doctor, they pay to visit a hospital, they pay when they use an ambulance. All capped but still a patient pays which may stop abuse and also helps raise extra money. Indeed the UK spends almost as much as Sweden. My experience of NHS in Scotland is some good and some bad. It is not a utopia. There is much waste and I've constantly seen those "Angel" nurses not giving a shit especially if the patient is aged and infirm. I definitely do not think the NHS should be on the pedestal that people put it on and it should deliver more and better. People hide behind the banner of the NHS. I also feel very strongly against your "them and us" insinuation that Scottish people are somehow morally better than English people especially as you have lived there so long. Always struggle with how so many Scots seem to feel uncomfortable living in England. The term "Little England" is a false one. What is "Little England"? The majority of people in England live in urban areas that are more multicultural and have higher levels of immigration than Scottish cities. Could you point out "Little England" for me on the map? I would never describe myself as left-wing so I cannot be included in your Scottish description but it does not mean I care less about what you do. I feel the people in Scotland who have continued this left leaning have not moved on and read from a 1960's script instead of a 2010's script including their political ideology. The obsession with the state providing means people care less, they expect others to do it for them with simple examples such as people not cleaning their closes to dropping litter to abusing themselves through drink and smoking and eating and expecting NHS to solve the problems they have caused. Scotland has always had a centre right tradition with the "wha's like us" and "lad o' pairts" view. I find Scotland can be more conservative than England. The obsession with national identity and nationalism. The low levels of immigration. The "I kent yer faither", keeping people in their place. I would argue Scotland is as pro-monarchy as England (ignoring any Rangers/Orange connotations) and as for bringing up The Empire. What Empire!?!? There was an Empire that ended in the sixties and was built enthusiastically by Scots who benefited from it hugely in all it's spheres rightly or wrongly. Scotland played a huge part in the Empire and has never acknowledged or accepted it's rightful part in the process.
  20. The whole "it's our oil" is totally selfish. I don't mind sharing the wealth with our neighbours. It can be argued that without the UK we would not have an NHS and all the social reforms brought about post 1945. I don't see Ireland with an NHS.
  21. I'm sorry but it was a pointless and totally ineffective post. If you want to ask what is being done call the club, take it upon yourself to ask them and if you are really concerned come up with a workable plan that suits all parties.
  22. This to me is the old if you want to do it then get your finger out. No point griping on an internet message board like a bunch of old women at a bus stop. The two loads who organised the Firhill Fans Cup thingymabob did it off their own back. Don't think they are even forum regulars but they had an idea, made a plan and successfully organised it. Textbook project management. They didn't come on here and say "Will the club organise a fans football tournament at Firhill?" Thistle have a very small staff but if you want to suggest something or volunteer then contact them. Not by email but by phoning them up with a clear and concise plan with numbers and costs. If you really want to do it then you would.
  23. Outside the football I was in New York as a fresh faced 23 year old intern having blagged onto an exchange program for one year. Had a mate over, who I have managed to lose touch with in this communication age, visiting and we had been out on the ran dan the night before around the WTC and Greenwich Village area. It was a great night and there were a few of us out and I'd been seeing a girl I'd fancied for ages. Long story short I wake up in triumph with a hangover and went into work 20 minutes late to see everyone evacuating the building. As my CD Walkman was on probably with the latest Travis, Charlatans or Gorillaz album I headed up to the 23rd floor to check-in only to see in the distance the towers on fire and my mate white as a sheet who had seen the whole thing. Evacuation. A long confusing day. Lying on some grass hungover and running in terrified panic as someone had shouted bomb, subway shutdown, eating in a diner (was hungover) listening to the radio in what felt like a war report from WWII films, rumours all over the place. I managed to make it back home 8 hours later to speak to my wee mum who was very upset - although I had emailed her and my dad before I legged it out the building down 23 flights of stairs even though they let me go up on the lift/.elevator. I was still pretty hungover, shocked but also very selfishly planning on meeting up with the same girl from the previous night. She was not in the mood. A mad day and in all seriousness a rough few weeks even though myself and anyone I knew got off scot free. One week after holiday in Madrid trains were blown up there, luckily doing late shift when bombs went off in London tube, was 2 trains behind the train the Brazilian guy was shot (1 hour in a tube stuck in a tunnel makes you go slightly odd) and a couple hours after arriving at Glasgow airport that got attacked. Don't travel with me. I did watch Thistle beat Dundee in Scottish Cup in a house in Jersey City which was quite surreal especially as even English football was not shown often in the tri-state area a mere 10 years ago.
