  1. Clucking bell! The Trust are trying to get a meeting together and people are nit picking about internet streaming and the venue. You can't please everyone. I've never had any internet streaming for meetings in work so why would they do it here? There is a meeting. If you can attend good. If not then setup a proxy to ask questions and report back or wait for the minutes. Glasgow is not Los Angeles, you can access it easily be it West End, City Centre or Possil.
  2. mrD do the The Green Brigade and Socialist Workers Party think the Tartan Army are an inclusive and radical goup of supporters?
  3. I'm sorry mrD but I think you're viewing Celtic with some deep red spectacles on. It's total tunnel vision. I try not to multi-quote discussions like this as it turns people into mini lawyers poring over mistakes in grammar instead of a debate so I have replied as below. Red Action and Anti Fascist Action are fringe groups on the far left of the political spectrum far removed from the ordinary mainstream punter on the street and nothing that appeals to myself. It reminds me of the the time I was walking down Buchanan St and there were 3 stalls - Socialist Workers, Solidarity and Communist Party. All with the same people there year in year out. Little representation but a lot of noise and hassle for others. Racism and Facism? What about sectarianism in their support? Conveniently avoided. People on the left have created a myth that they are stemming the rise of fascists (I think you would struggle to give me an example of a real fascist when you use the term correctly) and racists. Anyone from the political spectrum, liberal, nationalist with a small n, conservative etc has the same ability and often the same views in direct contrast to your far right organisations. That is why their vote and support is so low. The republicanism which is dominant with Celtic support is a form of bitter Irish republicanism which is a turn off for many people. It is not progressive it causes division and you would struggle to get examples or any large support in Ireland. Any Celtic/Socialist/Republican political views I have experienced from people and one of my old teachers also has a bitter Irish republicanism underneath when you poke around. I remember reading an interview with the former SSP MSP Rosie Kane who said Socialism in Scotland had elements of Irish republicanism which made her feel uncomfortable especially when the rebel songs sprang up after a few shandies. These "progressive, socialist, celtic fans" should get their own house in order before they start looking at others. Celtic fans and Rangers fans are still dominated by sectarianism even if it may be the "90 minute bigot". I have never felt included when among Celtic fans as a dominat group including guys I would call good friends. When they get together as Celtic fans and not as lads out for a drink they change, have the old chip on their shoulder and the majority of the songs they sing are Irish rebel songs, ditties about terrorists and other assorted nonsense. I've always laughed at the mindset of Celtic being the "immigrant club". Why do cities like London which is a real immigrant city with people from all over the world not have a club like this? Why does the Indian/Pakistani community in Glasgow not have a club as I'm sure they were discriminated when they started coming to Glasgow in large numbers in the 1950's and 1960's? Why does that community not hark on about their "immigrant heritage"? How can Irish immigration stemming from the late 1800's have anything in common with say a Somalian or Iraqi immigrant today? It's far too simplistic. To sum up the Celtic fans support a club owned by an foreign billionaire and ran by people who talk about brands and franchise and continue to strangle the rest of Scottish football for their own greed. A right bunch of lefties.
  4. You've got to be a troll. There is no way that I could agree with any of that.
  5. All this BB = Prods and Scouts = Tims, pledging allegiance etc just shows how ridiculous life in the West of Scotland can be. I went to Boys Brigade and have a lot of time for it and the people who ran it gave up their evenings looking after wee scroats trying to instill some discipline (a word which is much maligned but very important in all aspects of life) and experience in them. I went to a BB reunion last year and had a great time. You only appreciate things like this when you are older and more mature. A few boys dropped out of the Junior BB and never made it to the Company Section as it turned out they were Catholics (we couldn't care less beside different schools at that age) and I remember my dad unable to explain whey they stopped going. We marched behind a Saltire and Union Jack and may have toasted the Queen once a year at a display but as a kid you don't care about any of that. Some of the lads wore Celtic tops when we played football. It was never an issue. All you care about at that age is having a laugh and playing football. It's adults that push their petty views on their children which ruins it for others. When you're older you make your mind up about these things. For me the Boys Brigade was about friends, trips, hillwalking, a football team you would die for on a frozen ash pitch; the victories, the defeats and being picked for the Battalion team (the closest I will ever get to representing Scotland - I played the full 90 mins and scored a goal). The really important things in life. I went to a BB different from people in my school because of the church my mum went to and I would have chosen the lads in the BB no matter what school or denomination they were over school friends anytime. It created a bond which exists to this day when I occassionaly bump into people I haven't seen for years, decades maybe.
  6. "We have an anchor....!" Great news. 5th Kirkintilloch for me.
  7. I think starting threads with "Get Them TF" is not what this forum is about as it's far to much of a personal opinion and not expressed as eloquently as it could be. You can debate most things, ask questions etc and it's all in an orderly fashion. I go on the Tartan Army Message Board and politics threads are full of nationalist vitriol calling people traitors while the religious stuff tends to turn into accusations of bigotry and sectarianism. I think it's all good on here as long as people don't make it personal.
  8. Sounds like a good old down to earth Aussie bloke.
  9. Big thumbs up to Billy Connolly. I wonder when I will receive the freedom of the city....
  10. I can't stop laughing at the baseball caps. Ridiculous.
  11. Sounds like some bitter Labour supporters who are unable to accept the democratic choice of the voting public. This is not Florida 2004. I think the Conservative Liberal Democract coalition (Condem? I'm criniging at the use) have done better than I thought. I wanted the Lib Dems in in a coalition government. Cameron and Clegg are working together as all coalitions should do and they need some give and take like all coalitions. If we get AV electoral voting (and I hope we do) then coalitions will be more common especially as the 2 party state is diminishing with every election. At the end of the day we have huge amounts of debt. We need to cut it. It is not going away unfortunately.
  12. Natalie Sawyer, Georgie Thompson, Charlotte Jackson. I will miss you.
  13. Hi there - was on the Jags Trust website and could not see a contact email. I'm sure I'm being a bit slow but could you point me in the right direction? I know someone who works with International Students in Glasgow Uni and want to use them as a go between in trying to get the new batch of international students from Glasgow Uni to get along to Firhill - ticket offers, t-shirts etc. Give me an email so I can kick this off. Cheers.
  14. To encourage some competition I think you should state where the contributions have come from the 16 (not monetary value). New Zealand v Australia v America v England etc
  15. The money raised by the Nomads for player sponsorship is currently standing at £295 with more rolling in I'm sure. Do any of the websites - wearethistle, oneteaminglasgow, theharrywraggs etc fancy taking up the challenge in some friendly rivalry to see how much we can raise?
  16. Setting up a paypal account is very simple. Cheques are going the way of the dinosaurs. Cheers all for getting this setup. Let's keep the money rolling in.
  17. Got your mail NZ Jag. Other people may need to check their junk mail settings as it went straight to mine but of course is now going to get safely delivered into my inbox. Well up for putting some money into this.
  18. I'm up for sponsoring a player no bother. Great idea.
  19. Amen to that. That's the problem with the internet and forums as it allows to many negative posters on who harp and whine and complain but do nothing about it in the real world. There are plenty of opportunities out there to have a say but people choose not to do so.
  20. Welcome to the board mate. Enjoy the madness.
  21. I always think The Ashoka in Ashton Lane has a good atmosphere and the food is decent too. Went to The Wee Curry Shop in Byres Road a few weeks ago and that was good although you do feel a tad cramped. All my mates rave about Balbirs and when I was reading "The Herald" in the food review it seems this is the top rated place with Mother India (where I've never been) a close second.
  22. Hopefully the Trust will have something running.
