  1. Can't agree with that at all. First half the defence wasn't under any pressure because we kept the ball so well. To say we packed the box is ridiculous. We played most of the game in their half! Macedonia's only real chance came from a counter attack after a Scotland corner. 2nd half we did sit deeper when we were under more pressure but only conceded thanks to a sublime through ball from Pandev and a tidy finish. There were other near things but to suggest an average team would have thumped us is nonsense. Belgium are a far better than average team and only scored 2, both thanks to Scotland errors. Russell Martin looks a real find at centre back. He's barely put a foot wrong since he came in to the team. Hanley is prone to a couple of errors a game but that's to be expected for someone so inexperienced. Hopefully he'll develop. Hutton's been ok recently but I'd prefer to see Whittaker switched to right back if we can find a left back. Wallace has the potential. It's just a pity he's playing against part timers every week. At least he's likely to be up a level by the time the Euro qualifiers start. I'd like to see Paul Dixon given a couple of games. He did well when he played against Serbia last year. There's a long way to go but I am encouraged.
  2. A poor Macedonian team that completely outplayed us at Hampden a year ago when we were lucky to escape with a draw. A team that have beaten Bulgaria, Slovenia, Wales and Denmark in Skopje in the last year. I don't think anyone is getting carried away but the difference from the performance against them at Hampden to that yesterday is night and day. All we are looking for just now is a bit of progress and that's definitely happening under Strachan. Over the last 4 games we've had spells where we've kept possession better than any Scotland team in a long time.
  3. I thought Baird's movement was first class today. He makes some really intelligent runs. He should have taken the chance just after half time and definitely needs a goal but think he'll be a useful player for us.
  4. Most of the support was terrific today, other than one old codger in front of me that moaned at Balatoni and Higginbotham all day and then came out with a classic with about 10 minutes left when he said it was just like going back to the bad old days under McCall!! Some folk just don't have a clue.
  5. It's not easy to make a good fictional film about football. The action scenes never look realistic. Can't really think of a good one. Escape to Victory is entertaining but only because it's complete nonsense. Best film I've seen is a documentary called The Other Final about a game arranged between the 2 lowest ranked teams in the FIFA rankings, Bhutan and Montserrat, on the same day as the 2002 World Cup Final. A real feel good movie with guys that just play for the love of the game. The match commentary is brilliant.
  6. distel's right about The Malt Shovel, cracking pub although you'll struggle to get 25 of you in, especially during Festival time.
  7. Pretty obvious that those 2 minutes of highlights is the 1st time Nevin has seen us play in a very long time. Made positive comments about Bannigan, Lawless & Higginbotham who were the players who featured most prominently in them. He'll know a lot more about County from having watched them for a season. Typical of so many TV pundits who obviously do very little research.
  8. Robbo was very positive about us yesterday. Pity he blotted his copybook by not knowing Foxy's name! Called him Stevie all afternoon!
  9. Surely it'll be all ticket for Hearts fans, limited to the capacity of the Main Stand. Their enthusiasm may be reduced depending on the result of the Edinburgh derby next weekend.
  10. BBC have their own journalist do the match report then take the team line ups and stats from the AP. No idea who AP have doing Scottish football but the coverage is laughable. As well as those already mentioned they're still spelling it Erskene and had Don rather than Dow for United. Their stats said we had 1 shot on target. I can think of at least 4 saves their keeper made from Doolan, Baird, Fraser and Forbes. Apparently we only committed 2 fouls too!
  11. Colin McAdam is the reason I'm a Jags fan so I've got a lot to thank the big man for. He taught at the same school as my dad at about the time I first showed an interest in football and he provided us with tickets throughout his time at Firhill. Very saddened to hear of his passing. Fitting tribute with the minutes applause for him and Neil Duffy tonight.
  12. Agree completely. This result is a reflection on Hibs, not Scottish football in general. They were poor last season and only qualified for Europe as losing cup finalists.
  13. Hibs were dire last season. Without Griffiths they'd have been below Dundee. Now they've lost him they'll struggle badly this year I reckon. Supposed to be spending £200k on a striker from Swindon. No idea where they're getting the money from. He'll probably change his mind after tonight's embarrassment.
  14. Voted for Hearts to finish bottom. Based on tonight can I change it to Hibs, 4-0 down at ht to Malmo at home!
  15. Apparently Doncaster is a candidate for the English Football League chief exec job. Hope he gets it.
  16. Don't think Rangers league season will start on the same weekend as the Premier League will it?
  17. Wish they would give young Scots a chance rather than trawling the English lower and non leagues. I'm sure they've had games over the last couple of seasons where they've had no Scots in the starting XI. Seems bizarre for a club like Inverness.
  18. He worked hard, but didn't hold the ball up at all. Lost it virtually every time. Thought he was our poorest performer. Can't question his effort though.
  19. Looked far more solid at the back without bombscare Caldwell. Thought Martin did great after he settled down, McArthur's best game in a Scotland shirt and Hutton's best game in a long time, showing the benefit of half a season in La Liga.
  20. Pedro Ricksen, played full back in Alan Morgan's benefit game and struggled against some guy that had bid the highest at an auction to play in the game!! Funnily enough Lambie didn't seem interested after that.
  21. If anyone deserves a bonus from our promotion it's Bobby Dinnie given the part he played in getting Archie, Erskine & Doolan to Firhill.
  22. Spot on. The pish he came out with last week when he slagged off the attitude of some of the QPR players was pathetic. He really helped their cause by getting himself banned for 12 games before pissing off to the south of France. It's pretty obvious he's trying to alienate everyone at QPR so they don't want him back cos he doesn't fancy playing in the Championship.
  23. I wish the media would just ignore Barton and his Twitter ramblings. He's just a self-obsessed little shite. He'll say anything to keep himself in the public eye. Attempting to make up for the fact he's a very average player and nasty piece of work.
  24. 5 for Paton in 182 games according to last week's programme.
  25. Just been shown on Sky Sports News. Highlights of the game shown along with footage of the flares thrown prior to the game and of the damage done to the JH stand. Hundreds of seats according to Sky, although they are prone to exaggeration. The damage did look quite extensive though.
