  1. Criticism of Doolan's substitutions either in timing or personnel involved is valid. But with Stanway, and to a lesser extent MacKenzie, unavailable it meant Bannigan would likely play the full 90 mins. I reckon Ben would've replaced Banzo for around the last ten minutes. Re substitutions I felt Ablade should've come on much earlier. And unless there was a fitness issue it may have been the better option to have Crawford subbed ahead of Turner.
  2. Sorry for the selective quote but I'm just making a point regarding above. Previously when we leaked goals we had that same tendency holding onto a goal lead, sitting back and defending too deep. So I'd suggest that any evidence of that of late is a legacy of a deep rooted fault. Altho' the manager is in some way to blame, as in most cases of sitting back/deep defending it's the players that are at fault. That's either thru complacency or more often it's a simple attitude thing. If Doolan wanted simply to protect that 1-0 lead he'd have brought on McBeth in midfield, or Muirhead in defence and gone three at the back. Personally on Saturday I don't believe we were nearly as protective of a goal lead as in the recent past. More our midfield can be too easily brushed aside. They were good individually on the ball, especially Bannigan, but aren't best equipped to break up play. Same difference then as sitting back but perhaps more thru necessity than design?
  3. Ok. I get it. We haven't progressed "in the last few weeks" as we've only taken 10 points out of 12.
  4. I'm a bit lost here. What were we supposed to do? You said " we had chances to close the gap in the last few weeks and have not progressed".
  5. We won our previous home game, then won two games away from home before yesterday's draw, losing only two goals in the process. I'd say taking 10 points in the last few weeks out of a possible 12 is progress.
  6. Seems strange to say that a home draw is an improvement on two away wins, but I felt we played better than against QP & Pars. Midfield more involved this week, even tho' as a unit it's wonky. That should be partly corrected with Fitzpatrick returning. Thought Raith were every bit as good if not better than Falkirk were last month. Rather impressed with Dabo, who killed off a good few of our attacks. One other positive was we matched Raith re fitness. Something that we couldn't claim in recent games against them.
  7. I thought if Fitzpatrick was fit enough for the bench that Smith might start. Not sure whether we'll play Turner out wide or narrow the shape a bit. Not ideal either way on a wide pitch. Needing another good showing from Chalmers as he should see a lot of the ball.
  8. Maybe we should have a focus group look into the PTFC finances.
  9. I liked tonight's result (Morton 1-1 Ayr). Detest Morton so much these days, I didn't want them to win. On the other hand it would've been a poor outcome for us if Ayr had picked up 3 pts. A win tomorrow and we're 3rd equal and very much in the hunt for 2nd place.
  10. From my seat in the JHS I could see Turner's goal go in reasonably clearly. Yet I couldn't see anything of McIvor's(?) assist from a yard or so the other side of the goalmouth.
  11. Good to know. The best of drummers don't loose it. Their skill sets them apart regardless of age. On the subject of septuagenarian drummers, I'm going to see the great Steve Gadd* (for the 3rd time) next week. Nowadays he just tours for fun. Last saw him a couple of years back playing at the MacKintosh Church at Queens Cross. Apologies to our lad in the John Lambie, but I'd be very surprised if a better/more famous drummer has ever played in Maryhill. Anyone? *worth googling SG just to see who he has played with and the records he's drummed on.
  12. I'm all for building from the back. In fact with our type of players that's the best option. But yes there does seem to be a disconnect between Roberts with his defenders and centre mids in recycling the ball. Ironically Roberts may well be our best goalie since Cerny, and Tomas was chronically guilty of slow distribution. And I'm not meaning when we were ahead in games. Roberts appears more than reasonably two footed and he can throw a ball a fair distance, which should aid the recycling. All other aspects of his game are excellent. Well worthy of recent player of the month. Hopefully the distribution side to his game improves. Just up to Mitchell's standard would be fine. Re the time added on. I thought on Saturday the worst time waster was the ref. His constant dithering and over-officiating during stoppages were well worthy of a good few added minutes.
