Partick Thistle π‘π΄ Vs Stranraer π΅βͺοΈ

https://news.stv.tv/sport/partick-thistle-say-alcohol-trial-went-well-as-ayr-united-withdraw-application I'm torn here. Part of me thinks that as a fan owned club this initiative is one of those rare issues that requires a more honest detailed account. Then again I just suppose for operational/commercial reasons the results are sensitive. My own opinion is if its cost effective then , why not? In principle I certainly have no objections. I feel tho' in practice there would have to be some sort of pre match entertainment dovetailed into this to attract an early visitation of Jags fans. That in turn may only be practical and/or viable at larger attended fixtures. The cynic in me suggests these fixtures would be the very ones to attract an alcohol ban. -

Like most games, I suppose, good and bad points. There's still an element of being light-weighted in midfield and as said we lacked a cutting edge thru much of the game. Chalmers is a tad too one footed for a central attacking role, certainly in a scoring capacity. We do tho' attempt to play a structured game, but with enough variability and fluidity to suggest a decent season ahead. I reckon the way our fullbacks play (orthodox in defence, central in midfield after crossing the half way line) could be an effective ploy. MacKenzie looks like he could become a positive substitute as opposed to coming on to replace the injured. And I agree with the positives re Young Horn. Wilson said post match that he's for taking the League Cup seriously. But he also refers to last night as "pre-season". Not really a criticism as we all kinda know where he's coming from. It does tho' highlight a difficulty in progressing when you target the League KO as the season beginning proper. Sense it makes the QoS fixture all the more difficult a game. -

Was thinking that too. No 12 is more often than not the sub goalie -

Happy Birthday, Philπ

Received my physical ST today. Came as quite a surprise as I had already received identical 2 weeks ago.π

You do raise a very good point. To counter, my hope would be in an increased fluidity within the team. For instance full backs moving forward into more central positions. Cammy Logan has shown signs of doing just that. Further I get the impression that Wilson is more pragmatic as a coach and will change things during a game as and when required without necessarily waiting for second half substitutions to do so. Admittedly I'm trying to be a wee bit glass half full.

Β£20 for meπ

More or less a complete reversal from last season's fixture against them. Goalless at half time then scoring six after the break.

Personally I found the stewarding rather heavy handed https://legionmagazine.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/owens1.jpg

It means we can sell vastly overpriced, poor quality beers/lagers in flimsy plastic pint/half pint containers from 5pm till 45 minutes before KO, in a non seated area hidden from the pitch. Oh! and a glass of wine for the ladies π

Just for comparison Watt's recent goals/assists stats are roughly 60/40%. Graham's with us were 80/20%. Significantly different, tho' I don't myself know if that is in fact significantπ.

I was very impressed by his work rate the other season when he was at Tannadice. Also I think as an attacker he's reasonably versatile. Guess both those attributes could be of importance. I doubt you could ever call Brian Graham versatile as an attacker and on a few occasions when Graham wasn't available I rarely thought his replacement exactly knocked his pan out.
-
Aye but we only played 22 league games that season.
-
Penrice played just about every game in his last season with us.

Sorry, I'm looking at this purely from a sales point of view. Regardless of your points if we can't push the fact those players were involved within our youth system then I'd have to put that down to very poor salesmanship
-
Was the deal not conditional to Tiffoney signing for us? Could be we couldn't write sell ons into contract. One thing it's another feather in our bow re our youth set up. Good selling point for future recruits when you can mention the likes of Nisbet, Hendry & Penrice coming thru our system

Giving players their "directory names" is fun. Little Ricky sounds like a cartoon character but using a bit of licence we could've had an Augustus Caesar. There's only One Armond but spare a thought for Willie Devine.
-
70k euros for us I hear. Gotta feeling these sort of payments can either trickle down and/or take ages. So unless our cash flow has improved remarkably probably no immediate help re signings.
-
As long as Wilson doesn't refer to them as a pool of players. Be a bit insensitive, methinks.

You make a good point but...... Six foot nothing, Eyes of blue Quite Big Lee Ashcroft is after you. .... just doesn't scan π

Even after putting aside the current state of the squad, it seems inconceivable that at any time in the first half of the season McBeth will start most games on the bench. Just as inconceivable playing a back four that the captain or the left sided O'Reilly would be dropped to accommodate Luke. Maybe we look too much into formation? If McBeth starts in defensive midfield and drops into the back line when defending it's not too much different from him starting in a back three and moving forward when we're attacking (as indeed he's done). Bit like wingbacks who'll make it a back five when called upon. It's still not ideal as I think McBeth is best when he picks the ball up from the back line and drives forward rather than collecting it further up the park, but needs be. Putting a positive spin on things a centreback pairing of Ashcroft & O'Reilly should be the least of our worries.

Cammy Logan's 90 mins has looked good to me. Takes up interesting positions, most noticeably in attack where he often becomes a sort of inside right. Certainly never predictable as he can overlap down the right flank as well. Game took a turn for the best when McBeth moved into defensive midfield. We know he's not the answer there but it just highlights an obvious area where we're weak and vulnerable.
