  1. Like most folk that made the journey yesterday, much though we all appreciated the result and the considerable effort of the team, the victory was indeed tinged with sadness. Just how much sweeter and more enjoyable would everything have been if we had been watching a team of Bryan Hodge?
  2. courtesy of the Scotsman and courtesy of STV and I used to think press reports were syndicated.
  3. Just staggered in the door and read the Earl of H's summary and really can't add much to that as his post is spot on. Not sure what anybody can really add to that. There was no contentious decisions and no turning point in the game. I think if this had been a home game you could have awarded MotM to any outfield player and no one would complain. Best I can do is to say that both Doolan's goals were really well executed and Welsh had an excellent game (his passing today was every bit as good as Hutton earlier in the season).
  4. Available to all customers over 55 years of age or those who look like they've had a hard life. Supporting Thistle certainly qualifies you for the latter.
  5. Jaggernaut,, the Club 55 thingy is on offer at the moment £19 return anywhere in Scotland.
  6. Dear Potty Trained Have you ever thought of a career in football administration? Your above insight ticks all the right boxes. I wouldn't tho' rush off and get fitted for a blazer just yet Jobs don't come up that often as no one rarely does anything so few resigning matters and besides who's going to give up a position where you don't actually do anything more taxing than maintaining the status quo, That said if you could demonstrate some sort of relevant conflict of interest we could possibly fast track you onto a suitable committee. yours insincerely Sandy Sinecure Scottish Football Asylum
  7. If clubs under certain circumstances would be so inclined to artificially create a score draw to get a point each then sure these same clubs would be more inclined to play out a goalless draw under the present system?
  8. I feel our plans for a similar pitch may have fallen down on commercial judgement. Stenny, Alloa & Montrose can and do recoup investment at a fair rate as they're basically the only show in town. For large part of the year Alloa have to obviously provide floodlighting etc. They can achieve net profit largely because often enough they're able to rent out their pitch three games playing across the pitch simultaneously. In addition their chairman, Mulraney (a builder), was able to finance the cost of the pitch by a property deal. In short Alloa FC hit the ground running with this commercial venture. The other clubs with artificial pitches have no aspiration to play SPL football and thus can project financial return over lengthy periods. How would we feel if Beattie came out with a business plan that incorporated us never playing top flight football in the next ten years or longer? I expect it'll be the double whammy of possibly having to rip up the pitch and competition beating down any projected rental return that has as much to do with Beattie's decision as just the outlay
  9. This excuse is a first for even Dundee FC http://www.eveningte...tstory1.0.shtm?
  10. On the subject of groundshare I see Ross Co are making overtures to share with ICT. Apart from the obvious irony from a Jags point of view I hope County are allowed to play at Inverness. I'd hate when we play them again we go to Dingwall to find Victoria Pk all lego-ised. Tough on fans of SPL clubs missing out on a trip to Dingwall, I certainly wouldn't relish going four times to whatever ICT call their ground, but for the greater good of Scottish football and all that.
  11. I know Jamie Campbell hasn't to date set the heather on fire at Stenny but on Saturday he played 90 mins. He scores a cracker of a goal (No3) and sets up another (No4). Here's the video. You may have to right click and turn off HD and scaling( whatever that is) to get it to play. http://www.stenhousemuirfc.com/video/
  12. Can we have him back for the weekend?
  13. I'd go along with Tom S's proposals tho' I'm far from convinced about summer football. I'd rather see an end to re-arranged midweek fixtures being played in the winter months. That can easily be done by extending the season a tad and scrubbing the idiotic challenge cup, which usually ends up costing clubs money just to participate. Might sound daft but sitting in a covered stand in summer can feel just as cold as most other times. I do agree that playing surfaces would be improved. One thing I'd like to see implemented would be a change to the points system. I've long argued that goalless draws shouldn't be rewarded. Not sure whether 3pts win 1pt scoring draw 0pts goalless, 3pts win 2pts scoring draw and 1pt goalless or 2pts win 1pt score draw and 0pt goalless would be best but whatever I believe the benefits would be obvious.
  14. An esthetically pleasing banking of white heather would be my preference.
  15. My slight criticism of Cairney lately has been he's caught in possession too often to play a normal central role in midfield. I like the forward freer position he played on Saturday. As often as not he can be wasted just playing wide but when the set up is not too rigid he can turn up anywhere in attack and as long as he's on his game he'll be effective. Agree about the scuffed shots but at least they're now shooting at goal rather than the buck passing that's been a sad feature of this and recent.seasons. Hopefully they'll continue being less shot shy and the end product will improve. Rather that than they get embarrassed and revert to trying to walk the ball into the net.
  16. He's a right footed midfielder, usually played wide. Never beats a man preferring to cut in. Loads of ability not a bad crosser of a ball and can if required hold play up. Either lacks a bit of heart or is just genuinely soft. Don't feel he played to his potential often enough with us.
  17. Don't need TV coverage to know It was never a sending off and their defender got to the ball and not a penalty either. I'm maybe one of the few that didn't think Cairney "went down too easy". I think he was always going to trip after the tackle. It doesn't look to me that video is going to clear up their penalty either so seeing it's Collum reffing I'll just assume he got that one wrong as well.
  18. Alex Ferguson tells the story of when he was managing East Stirling and they were playing Queens in front of a crowd of a few hundred. There's one ES fan and one QP fan both out in the open terracing, separate from the rest of the support, shouting obscenities at each other. They get closer and closer till they clash and start knocking lumps out of each other. Even the football stopped so as the players could marvel at this spectacle.
  19. Nice lad so i really hope he does well. Always enjoyed my chats with his Dad at various under19/reserve games. Really believe he has the talent but just shows how precarious a football career can be, .Terrible age in the lad's development to be plagued by injury.
  20. Beat me to it with Forfar , Decent terracing at one end, other end not steep enough but the shed is excellent as well. Alloa is much improved these days, lenny. Nothing great but no longer amongst the worst.
  21. All the very best, Ami. Your work at PTFC and above all your enthusiasm for the Jaggy cause has been very much appreciated.
  22. Yon last time we played at Cowdenbeath midweek was perhaps the only time I've wished I'd been at some legoland stadium instead. If I had to choose out of all those out the road new stadia once in the ground I think Airdrie's is the best. Uber picks out by far the three best away days. Pity we could lose all three for next season and possibly be replaced by two trips to Fife (Pars & Cowden) and also Dumbarton, which in my mind combines just about the worst stadium and blandest place to visit. Having just one stand accommodating both set of fans isn't something we should really be complaining about but when that one stand faces due north it must on occasions be absolutely freezing.
  23. Great pics as always, Tommy. Looks like Aaron was fouled but video might settle that one way or other more conclusively. I'd forgotten about Dods's reminder to the fans, and of course Elliot, that their was a rugby match later on. Can't believe Dods didn't get a card for that. Sorry that's wrong with Mr Collum reffing you should believe anything.
  24. On the issue of OTT policing at Firhill last week as I suspected Falkirk, who were away last week, had the usual low level presence yesterday. So the obvious question is why were we selected for such scrutiny and not Falkirk?
