  1. Because Grehan wouldn't accept anything longer.
  2. Firstly I haven't a clue by what you mean about dictating when a thread starts. Secondly I'm not dictating when a thread finishes. How do you go about that anyway? I was suggesting that with the OP evidently content with Lance's post that the matter was over with. I'm sorry I hadn't anticipated you or anyone else feeling so strongly about it. Anyway in fairness to Lance is it not better just to leave it be?
  3. I wasn't for a moment suggesting you boo or agree with booing a player off. I am saying categorically that there's a not too small minority that appear to enjoy jeering and mocking a certain player, which is in effect creating a scapegoat. Cheering when said player gets subbed is probably the most noticeable example of what I'm meaning. I've done it myself when it's been a player who's given a half arsed contribution, but I don't think anyone, yourself included, is saying Grehan doesn't put himself about. So we're basically disagreeing about the guy's potential. You've obviously given up on him and I haven't. I've cited a couple of displays where he's been more than decent, another poster more games than that. Gordie reckons it could be confidence and I tend to agree with him. That said I wouldn't be shocked if Martin G turns out to be worthy of a taxi, I'm just far from certain yet that this is the case. On the other point I was making, regardless what anyone feels about Grehan, I don't think it's it's necessarily wise to simply throw Fraser in as his replacement. I'd hate to see young Shaun's confidence shattered by too much expected too soon. Again our rather vociferous intolerant brigade has much to say in my reasoning.
  4. Could you not have just left this thread after Big Col's post? Clearly, well to me at least, the poster who started the thread was (in the post above yours) drawing a line under it after Lance's post. You obviously feel the need to add your tuppence worth to what should've now been a thread that's run it's course. I realise by posting this and thus dragging out the thread I'm falling into the land of hypocrisy so maybe I, like you, should also "get a life".
  5. This is much my view. To be totally honest I saw Grehan play very poorly in a reserve game at Glasgow Green against Q o S and I thought at the time this guy won't cut it. Then, as I posted earlier, he played well at McDiarmid and immediately after against the Q o S first team. I know I wouldn't be alone in saying he was the best player on the field that day. It's also worth comparing the performance of MG that day against Holmes at Queens. Two directly comparable players in two roughly equal rated teams this season. Holmes, who couldn't lace Grehan's boots that day, was stand in team captain, so obviously rated at Palmerston. Holmes as we've seen can be an effective player and have a dud game. I'm not so sure that dud players can have effective games. So imo Grehan isn't a dud and as Gordie suggests it could be a confidence thing. Don't suppose we'll ever find out if the lad's not given more of a chance.
  6. Yip, I think I could've worked that one out. Now tell me why releasing Buchanan is false economy. Are you seriously suggesting in the few months remaining of his contract the net profit from the Club's turnover would exceed the gross cost of employing Buchanan?
  7. Aye and that's before Jaggernaut gets hold of your their instead of there. Life's goin' be hardly worth living, my lad.
  8. Not being judgemental but the odds of this appearing in the papers have been considerably shortened by starting this thread.
  9. That could work but it's a bit late this season tho' I think there's technically 10 or so days left officially.
  10. I don't understand how it was false economy. How would we be better off financially if he stayed?
  11. Could be right about the scapegoat. That's why we need to keep him. Release Grehan and those who are happier groaning/booing/slating/jeering or whatever will want to move on to another. McCall is maybe over reticent in playing the younger players but perhaps he fears their confidence will be shattered playing in front of the teeth gnashing brigade. Any manager ideally wants to introduce young players at home rather than at an away game but when a sizeable minority of your support appear to enjoy mocking individual players then whether to start a youngster or not isn't an easy decision.
  12. It's only my opinion but I can't recall a single game where Erskine has played well and we've been beaten. So I feel that before I rate Chris a magical/important player I'd like to come away from a defeat or a disappointing draw with the consolation of saying at least Erskine had a decent game. Maybe what I'm trying to say is when a wee bit of magic from Erskine turns a game or three and we sneak a few undeserved wins thru him alone then I'll start to see him as an important player. On the positive side I reckon there's no shortage of potential with Erskine and he's definitely worth pursuing with but at the moment I feel he's about 40% substance and 60% potential.
  13. I'm not sure I get the point of your post. MacBeth has picked up an injury thus he's back with us. So what? Forget what his injury is but it's not related to his previous injury. Not sure where you get a "very threadbare Ayr Utd" from. I wasn't aware they'd many injuries and I know they've brought in another midfield loan player lately.
  14. The Robbo baws up should really be academic. We should have been capable of scoring three goals comfortably against an understrength Cowden side. Thought the lack of urgency in the first half was appalling. I wouldn't have been happy with that relaxed attitude even if we were two goals up. Last week there were no failures and it would be wrong to say that any individual player was head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the team. Today I can't think of any player (apart from the subs) that could be excused. Felt for the unlucky fan in hospitality that had to pick the MotM. I'm guessing whoever it was picked McGowan because the guy didn't hide. Like the others he was poor but at least he tried to get involved.
  15. Tom, it goes nowhere near squaring things. The only positive I can take from today's outpouring is that at least Eddie P has come out his corner fighting. That in my book is one up from just sitting on his arse and saying feck all. Imo the importance of an 1876 Club/Centenary Club is that funds raised are in perpetuity as opposed to one off thingys like share issues etc. I don't like the way the CF has apparently being run with so many flaws that professionalism is hardly the first word that anyone would associate with the fund but its success is still of the utmost importance. In short I'd rather see Eddie P defend the indefensible than just do hee haw.
  16. Half agree. Grehan has on occasion shown his worth, sadly albeit not on many occasions. Correct me if I'm wrong but the only time he's played two decent games on the trot were the games at McDiarmid and Palmerston. Anyway I'm not going to single out his performance today for individual criticism. There were at least seven Jags players today that were completely appalling. Also, I've see quite a lot of Shaun Fraser. I really rate the guy and I don't, mainly because of his body strength, think there's much of a risk factor playing him. I don't however feel he should be asked to start week in week out. I'll slate McCall for many things but will support him re the way he's handled the emerging youngsters with regard to introducing them to the first team. Slag Grehan by all means but don't do it and champion Fraser's inclusion at the same time. Let Shaun graduate to an automatic start. Don't do it just because Grehan (a player who after all is contracted into next season) isn't doing the biz.
  17. Indeed there was a grand round of applause. Fingers are crossed the worst is duly over . Sorry the result from Firhill was hardly a fairytale ending to such a traumatic week but the kid's improving health is of unmeasurable more importance.
  18. Agree, but at least we're fortunate in having a number of left sided players. Often when a left sided midfielder is not available a team loses its balance. With Bryan out an injury or suspension for Boyle would be most unfortunate. Since Hodge has started to put his body into tackles and thus his defensive side has improved he's been value for money. Apart from his previous poor, often mistimed reckless tackling, his other major fault has been the quality of passing. That's a great pity as he appears to have good vision. Probably being a bit harsh given the state of our pitch but sometimes he's a bit too ambitious with his through balls. In general tho' the guy has improved his consistency no end of late.
  19. Wasn't exactly pleased to hear the rugger chappies were playing at Firhill last night but it's hard to imagine they could've done much more damage to the pitch.
  20. Help! I only said there was one statistic I didn't like. If I had had more time or possessed an ounce of journalistic objectivity I'd have listed the other 834 statistics that come out in favour of a Jags win tomorrow. One stat (No521) I feel is particularly pertinent is that in recent years the Jags have a hundred percent league record of home wins against clubs chaired by egotistical, Basil Rathbone impersonating QCs.
  21. Anyone who has the misfortune to read my posts will know I'm one of the most anti, to use the above excellent phrasing, "4xeverybody drudgery". However, and there's an element of taking the devil's dick advocaat here, why couldn't/don't the SFL see the damage their 3x leagues of 10 have/are doing to our game? After all they could have at any point in the last (I really can't remember) years have introduced a couple of clubs (eg Spartans & Cove Rangers) into the SFL set up and launched two leagues of sixteen. The answer is of course they weren't prepared to open up the SFL closed shop and thus the bottom of the two leagues would be even more meaningless. The most salient point regarding the Jags is that the current Doncaster proposal will probably be better for us than the status quo. It will be a complete mess, it will disregard fan opinion, it will not offer anything sustainable BUT it will be better than the current SFL set up. In a way Lenziejag2 and I are singing from the same hymn sheet. The big difference is that I have absolutely no confidence in the SFL and if pushed would say I have slightly more confidence in the SPL. That's so far from a ringing endorsement of the SPL I can go but our mess we're currently in lies far more at the feet of the SFL than the other charlatans.
  22. There's one statistic I don't like. They've scored more goals than us.
