  1. We can get to 64pts. If you accept that teams down to Ayr (currently 8th) are in the fight for a play-off place then with the exception of Dunfermline and the Jags, Morton play all the teams between 8th and 1st. Airdrie, with the exception of a game v Arbroath , also play all the teams involved in the fight for a top 4 place. I expect that every week until the end of the season there will be at least two or more games featuring teams playing against each other and who are play-off hopefuls. So I anticipate many must win 6 pointers!! We are fortunste to have a little bit of daylight between us and the chasing pack. Therefore Kris Doolan and his squad should be focused on playing (and winning) one game at a time. Let the rest hang themselves.
  2. Thank you. At my age mid-70s it would be unusual not to have some ailments. I am very fortunate to have nothing too serious, so far. I think I over did the DIY and issues with my hips flared up. I will be OK in a few days. The irony is that Arbroath is only a 90 min drive and is one of the fixtures I can normally get to. Anyway as others have said 3 points and a clean sheet - a good days work. Thanks again.
  3. I couldn't make the game today so sorry about that. Various ailments one of which flared up yesterday sufficiently to restrict me to the house. I see Doolan saying we had two goals chopped off and one effort which hit the past and may have crossed the line. Why were the goals chopped off and are there any views on whether or not the post effort crossed the line?
  4. With Dunfermline winning last night we now have another rival for a play-off place. We need to find our mojo and quickly. I agree we need to stick with the team and the manager and give all the support we can. We are after all a special bred - we are Jags!!
  5. Not much I can add, in terns of how we play and the signings we have made, to what has been already stated in this thread. I can say that I have never thought we were a 'stick on' for a play-off place. A team that loses almost as many goals as it scores can never be trusted to achieve great things. When you consider that the majority of the goals we lose are very soft and are similar there are clearly deep seated issues to be addressed. We have also been unlucky with the timing of injuries but so have other clubs, for example, Morton. At the moment Morton and Airdrie look better play-off prospects. We really need to find a win and Saturday v Morton would be a good place to start.
  6. Just see the highlights which gave a fuller view of the goal. I agree Graham was offside when the ball was played through. We got away with one there - which was nice to see. However turning to the penalty. IMO the ref got this correct. Wilson did have his hands behind his back but as he went towards the Jags player to block the shot he turned away from the ball to protect himself andcas he did do his right arm spun out away from his body. A vlear hand ball and penalty. Callum Davidson has a point about our first goal but with regard to the second he is talking a lot of nonsence. I would bet if it was a Jag who handled the ball he would have wanted a penalty. I thought QP were a bit on the dirty side, like Morton, but was glad to see that we stood up to that and put in a few hefty challenges ourselves.
  7. Just looked at Camallain's video of Adeloye's goal. Certainly both Graham and Adeloye move beyond the QP defence after the free kick is taken - so not offside at that point. When Grahem eventually gets possession of the ball and pkays it across goal to Adeloye he is played onside by I think 2 QP players and there is no doubt Addloye is onside as he has a QP Player in front and goal side of hime when he moves forward to head the ball into the net! Soil think the assistant referee go it right. There was no offside. Also agree we have had many poor decisions against us particularly since the resumption of football following the covid lockdown!
  8. Callum Davidson, in his post-match comments, is very critical of the referee. He is saying Graham was offside at the first goal and for the penalty his defender had his hands behind his back. In summary the Ref's decisions cost QP the game. Thoughts anyone.
  9. Agree that we should be looking to win this game and in fact every game until the end of the season - including play off games if we get that far. Draws are absolutely no use to us now! Having said the above I have to admit I have no idea about the level of performance this Thistle team will produce! Fingers crossed for a win.
  10. Just watched the highlights and was very surprised at our performance. IMO we gave Celtic 4 goals. I can't imagine Grahem would have been very happy with his goalkeeper or the defence. They were very poor and gave away 'easy goals'. Also few players looked slow and out of sorts - very leggy. I was wondering if we has some illness or injuries in the squad and consequently had to play players who were not fully fit. A very strange performance from the team!
  11. Would like another goal or two. DU will bring on Watt and he generally scores against us!
  12. Graham in 3 mins. Has the ref disallowed the goal yet for offside. No! Oh well there goes my prediction of 0-4 DU
  13. Totally surprised by this team selection. Any guesses on the formation. Are we going 4-4-1-1, or 3-5-1-1, or 5-3-1-1 or any other formation.
  14. I'd play Williams and Neilson in central defence with Graham and Adeloye up front. Also Mitchell back in goal. Williams offers a greater physical presence than Muirhead and playing 2 up front would require DU to keep 3 defenders back. I'm not sure Williams has the savy to cope with Watt or Moult but can he be any worse than than recent defensive performances. My team would be: Mitchell McMillan, Williams, Neilson. Milne Stanway, Robinson, Mc Beth, Fitpatrick Graham, Adeloye. Stanway and McBeth can provide the ball winning and stopping the opposition playing attributes we so badly need. Lawless and Diack could come on from the bench, if needed. I wouldn't let Alston anywhere near a Jags Jersey though Bannigan and McInroy are still capable of having their 'moments' albeit they are becoming fewer. I know this post is a waste of time as Doolan won't endorse any of the above. 0-4 DU with Watt, Docherty, Holt and Fotheringham scoring.
  15. It would be a glass of red wine or Belhaven Best. I used to smoke when I was about 15yrs but gave it up after 1 fag!
  16. I am too old to be bothered about this or that tranche. As long as the future of the club is not threatened I am happy to let those who know about these matters get on with it. I think there are sufficient numbers of people involved who love the club and have its best interest at heart. To the Pars game. I am expecting an Ayr United and Queens Park night. By thos I mean we start on the front foot, stay on the front foot, play outstanding attacking football and hammer the Pars by 4/5 goals. In other words a good night for Jags fans. Oh, and of course gat 3 points.
  17. I understand that "acting on intelligence" actually means that Celtic received intelligence that their 'green brigade' intended to attend Sundays game in big numbers and to be as intimidating as they could including a pitch invasion if the game was going against them. This led to a meeting with the two clubs and the Police to discuss what to do. The result was to ban all Celtic supporters fron this game. I don't know if anyone from the SPL/SFA/SWPL attended but would be surprised if there wasn't some representation there. Taking into account the safety of the players and club officials, game officials, and all fans who would be there to support their teams it's difficult to see what other outcome could be reached. The real problem is that Celtic have been unable to deal with the 'green brigade' problem. I hope they can do so soon otherwise we may end up with a rival 'blue brigade'!
  18. Firstly let me say that I like Jamie Sneddon and consider him to be one of the best shot stoppers in the Championship. I also think Marshall is a competent keeper. Shot stopping is the big box to be ticked in the modern game. The other is good distribution. The ideas that keepers should dominate their 6 yard box, command their penalty box and catch everything in the air are old hat. Coaches take the view that these are now the responsibilities of the defence. This is why you see very few keepers wandering too far from their line. To the ICT game. 1. First goal. Jamie was left totally exposed as the left side of our defence , including Fitzpatrick, completely abandoned that side of the Park. While recognising the above my first thought when I saw where Jamue was positioned was that he had got it all wrong. He was far to close to his near post and IMO needed to be at least another yard towards the middle of his goal. From that position he could cover both sides of the goal more effectively. So regrettably my conclusion is that he was partly at fault and would have saved the shot had he been correctly positioned. 2. The second goal. Again partly to blame. The ICT Player blocked him but he got little support from his defence. We should have had two defenders between Jamie and the ICT player who sould have jostled him out of the way even to the extent of forcing the referee to delay the corner kick and warn all concerned.. Also IMO the ref should have awarded a foul against the ICT player for obstruction. With hindsight Jamie has to be much better at dealing with these situations. Third goal. I didn't see Jamie at fault here. The defence though allowed ICT to make too many passes in our box Jamie moved to his left than to his right going with the flow of the game. He was moving from his right back towards the middle of his goal (again following the flow of the game) when an unmarked ICT player received and then passed the ball into the side of the goal Jamie was moving away from. That was why he couldn't get his body down to the ball but he was a whisker away from blocking it with his foot. No blame for Jamie with this goal but poor defensively especially in failing to mark a player standing 12 yards or less from our goal. In summary I feel Jamie was partly to blame for the first two goals and our defence for all 3. Who would want to be a Thistle Goalkeeper playing behind that defence? Get O'Reilly in and let's be more aggressive in dealing with opposition players trying to block our keeper.
  19. I agree that for us the critical games are v Hibs and Hearts. To finish 6th for the second consecutive season represents an amazing achievement. To finish 5th would be excellent and to finish 4th would be unbelievable. To achieve 5th we have to keep our record v Hibs by taking at least 4 points from the two games we will have with them. To finish 4th we have to do something we haven't done this season - take points from Hearts! I have followed Thistle for over 60yrs and no one will be more pleased than me if our Ladies can finish in 4th or 5th place.
  20. Thanks for mentioning that but I was aware of the further fixtures. Notwithstanding the great season and progress the Ladies have made under Graham do you really think our league position will be better than it is at the moment once we have completed the remaining fixtures?
  21. 1-1 v Hibs is a good result and I think I am correct in saying they haven't beaten us this season. Unfortunately to finish 5th we need to beat Celtic (away) and hope Hibs dont beat Rangers at home.
  22. graham on the other hand was clearly fuming and correctly saw it as two points dropped. Apparently he is the same with the ladies team. At a recent post match interview in addition to lots of praise and constructive comments he mentioned he is "always banging on about hitting the target"
  23. That was because Livinston were an exceptional Championship team but more to the point we were crap. If I recall accurately we also had some players who appeared to have given up and who didn't seem to care, such as Osman. Against RC we had a very good team, playing great football and had the right attitude - no comparison to the Osman team.
  24. I agree with your views about the size of the leagues and the timing and the ability of the 3rd or 4th place club when it comes to planning and signing players for the following season. As far as your other comments are concerned we remain apart. The 36 v 38 game comparison just doest register with me. By completion of the play- off games Ross County would have played 40 games, the Jags 42. I don't see any detriment to the SPL club in the number of games played. In fact there is a definite advantage for the SPL club especially when the timescale over which the play-off games are played Is taken into account. I would find the system a bit fairer and therefore more acceptable if the play-off final games were played a week apart rather than 2 or 3 days. This should give the Championship team enough recovery time to complete for 90 mins and not 70 mins. We also have to consider if the SPL Club in 11th place is worthy of retaining their place in the SPL in addition to whether or not the Championship Club is worthy! I have no doubt the Jags team that played Ross County was more than worthy of SPL membership as we outplayed RC for 160 minutes of the final until fatigue and the referee intervened. I agree with the Brechin Chairman who has stated the Pyramid System is past its sell by date in its current form and that for Non-League Clubs, League 2 should be more accessible. This would I suspect mean reconstruction all the way through to the SPL. Try getting clubs like St Mirren and Ross County to vote for this!
