  1. We're playing our first season in the top league. We are new to this league. The only team that's new to this league. Out of 11 other teams only seven of them have a significantly better record than us this season. You can play around with statistics on games won, points lost in last five minutes, whatever. But we're competing in almost every game, and we've still got a great chance of staying up. And then you look at where we were one year ago today, I believe. Archie's first game, clinging on to hope of promotion but needing a very good run to overhaul Morton. In that year it believe we have progressed. There's work to be done and there have been mistakes, and it's been really frustrating this season because we've deserved more. But to take that frustration out by lashing out on the team and the manager is just so unhelpful. And that's what gets me. Everyone wants Thistle to win but all this negativity could be genuinely damaging, and I'm surprised that not everyone can see that.
  2. This needs explained. I don't get it.
  3. Sorry, but I'm out of "likes". I'd like to give this post a standing ovation.
  4. Losing away to the third best team in Scotland. This is the lowest ebb that I can remember. I've given up on pants and I'm going to spend the rest of the day sitting on the toilet shouting abuse at pictures of Archie, Craigan and Christie Elliott.
  5. I think you missed the point of "cup half full". If we had won it would have been "cup full"
  6. Wonderful to see this thread re-emerging. It's one of my favourites, with some real insight from some of our best posters.
  7. Any team in red n yella. In fact, just any team at all.

David Kennedy, that was the ex-Ayr full back I was thinking of.

Clutching at straws a bit now... Kevin Gaughan, Willie Jamieson, Graham Connell, David... Something. Ex Ayr Utd experienced full-back who Lambie probably inherited in 1999. George shaw really surprised me. Don't remember at all.

    A Quiz

I think I remember Jered Stirling playing in the four nil defeat at Stenny where we could easily have scored ten. I also think there was a big young central defender who played regularly alongside McNally that season, but I don't remember his name. I don't think it was Andy Dowie but I always got him mixed up with Andy Dowie. Is Andy Dowie on the list? It's like that Nick Knowles lottery game. And I'm also going to take a punt on Ian Nicolson.

I think the people criticising Archie for the odd dodgy signing could look at some of the names on this list. Was Jorge Cadette in Lambie's time?

Quinton Jacobs, Derek Lyle, Eric Paton? Brian Martin? Robert Dunn, Brian Hamilton
  15. Bannigan also conspicuous by his absence which is why you should be punted.
  16. Are willie and column both words that can mean the same thing?
  17. No, I understand. Sorry. What I mean is that, based on many of the comments on other threads, not everyone would agree that I'm being generous to Archie by giving him Christie. Personally I think I am. Anyway, I suppose the main point of original post was to highlight that we now have decent options in just about every position, and for a bit of fun, match up Archie's signings against what we already had. I don't think there's a lot in it myself. I probably prefer last season's side but that's principaly because we had a lot of success last season and it was a lot of fun. This one was alweays going to be tougher, and I think the new signings had to bring something different (experience, solidity) so it's not really a fair like-for-like comparison anyway. Archie's doing fine anyway.
  18. I don't think we're the same team without Stuart Bannigan in midfileld, pulling strings from the back. That would be my biggest concern in dropping him to left-back. I left Ozzy out on purpose, as he won't be available again unless we sign him again.
  19. Archie's now virtually signed a player in every position, excluding left back. We'll give him Christie since he wasn't getting a look in under greeting faced rat weasel. So, what's the better team? Fox SOD Balatoni Muirhead Sinclair Welsh Bannigan Lawless Craigen Erskine Doolan Or Gallagher McMillan Picollo Mair Taylor-Sinclair Moncur Fraser Elliott Bauaben Higginbotham Taylor I reckon it's a tough call. A bit more experience among the signings, which was probably necessary, probably a bit more flair in the inheritance. Either way, good to see that we now have virtually two teams available.
