  1. I think our biggest issue is that at the moment we have too many first team starters who aren't quite up to speed yet this season. Osman, Gordon, Devine, Lawless and possibly Booth have all started the season slowly. For a team of our size we will always struggle if that many of the starting XI are off form. Chuck in Barton who has still to get up to speed with the way we play, Bannigan, Dumbaya and Cerny being out then it's easy to see why we are not firing on all cyclinders. Do I think these players will play as badly all season? No. It's frustrating at the minute but there are signs of better form ahead. Regarding the lethargy on Sat, could it be down to having an extended break for the International weekend? Not an excuse but might be a reason....
  2. Going by the highlights Lindsay and Devine's positioning both look a bit questionable for the 2nd goal. In saying that, the midfield give Donati all the time in the world to look up and make the pass. Devine flys in to tackles but his aggression in the air is nowhere near as intense. This is where I think we're struggling when it comes to defending set pieces.
  3. Lindsay just as culpable as the rest. He and Divine are far too hesitant at any cross ball/ball in to box. I know many on here see him as a future star but I don't agree. He's far too slow. Ziggy was far too easy at letting crosses in to box. Hamilton had a field day. Barrton isnt fit. Osman either isnt fit or way off form. Lawless needs dropped. We missed chances at start of 2nd half that would have seen us safe. Doolan missed the same chance as Azeez did a few weeks ago yet was clapped. Double standards. Keep that defensive rear guard all season and we are fooked.
  4. We've had a core support of approx 2,500 for a few seasons now. A few things have been tried but it has rarely changed anything. It basically comes down to money. £22 is way too much for a game in Scotland when you consider the standard that is served up. Thistle are one of the cheaper tickets in the premier as well. If you were an occasional supporter and rocked up yesterday to watch that after paying £22 you'd be hard pushed to convince them to come every week! Until the whole of Scottish football looks at ticket prices I can't see much changing.
  5. Agree with the above, thought he came across well. He was very positive about the ability of Gary Fraser, sounds like he's not far away. Didn't sound so positive on Pogba's ability mind you! A degree in Sports Business from the University of Denmark as well, just your typical Jags player.
  6. First half was scrappy, both teams looking a bit rusty with lots of misplaced passes. As mentioned previously the goal was the first real moment of quality, the first time we put a move together, as soon as it left Erskine's foot it was only heading to one place. Lots of positives though, thought Lindsay and Devine played well together for the most part and Ziggy was excellent. He won't give much going forward but he's a soild defender. Welsh was getting the usual pelters from the folk around me but I actually thought he played pretty well. Osman looked off the pace which was understandable but came on to a game in the 2nd half. 90 mins under his belt is a big bonus. The collective groan when Cerny pulled up was understandable but thankfully looked like he shook it off. Lindsay and Draper's 50/50 made a hell of a noise but from my angle looked like a fair enough challenge from Draper. Haven't read otherwise but looks like it was a dead leg (hopefully nothing worse). Booth looked about 80% but still played well and more match time will do him no harm. Lawless was quiet first half but was really good in the 2nd and unlucky with a great effort. Doolan led the line well with some good movement and excellent control. Could barely believe what I was hearing when the guy behind me claimed "Doolan brings nothing to this team, get him off". I genuinely think some folk hate seeing Thistle do well. MoTM was Erskine, he worked tirelessly going forward and back (similar to Amoo) but carried our biggest threat. Tremendous finish for the goal as well, great to see him back. All in all, great 3 points and plenty to work on.
  7. I see Kane Hemmings has left Dundee for Oxford. Big blow for them, great news for our defence!
  8. I remember the Hamilton game, gifted the ball straight to Richard Offiong to score. Not a chance he played centre half for 6 months, think the Hamilton game was his last there and that was very early in the season. If he could reproduce the form he showed in games against us last season then he'd be an asset. Suspect there is a reason Dundee want shot of him though, he wouldn't come cheap.
  9. Think the squiggly line is from the Braehead sponsor. If the top had a bit of red in it, even a red piping next to the yellow, then it would have been a beauty. Much improved on last seasons effort though.
  10. My mate is a Caley fan, described Devine as a good solid signing for us and wouldn't have minded him staying in the Highlands. A few decent signings over the last few days from Archie by the looks of it.
  11. Miller and Gallagher away. Wilson signed for next season.
  12. Frans was decent enough, no more no less. Wouldn't have minded had he stayed, equally not fussed he's left. He was a bit cumbersome, definitely think Archie will have someone else lined up.
  13. Fantastic gesture once again. I guess the long term future of the academy will hopefully be self sustainable once/if Thistle can start to produce and sell on players for a large sum i.e. McCarthy and McCarthur at Hamilton, Gauld and Armstrong at United etc. This kind of backing will hopefully go a long way to helping that. The backing wouldn't be worth anything though if it hadn't been put to great use, Gerry Britton and the Academy team deserve great credit for that.
  14. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Although I agree the contribution the Weirs have made to Thistle is fantastic, is becoming a patron and having the youth academy named after them/him not enough? Perhaps it's a sweetner to keep the cash rolling in! Anyway, just a thought. I hope they continue to give the great backing for years to come.
  15. Out of interest, why does it always take so long for our kits to be revealed? Usually it's well in to the summer. Falkirk, Dundee, Celtic, Dundee U & Aberdeen have all got their new kits on sale already.
  16. New 2 year deal for the captain. Great news.
  17. No to Paton. I'd have taken Ryan Dow a few years ago but not so sure now. Think he's off to St Johnstone anyway
  18. No to Paton. I'd have taken Ryan Dow a few years ago but not so sure now. Think he's off to St Johnstone anyway
  19. Paton was terrible last night. If it wasn't an aimless hack somewhere then he was slowing moves down with his inability to pass with his left foot. He did manage to get in his token rash tackle to keep up his hard man act mind you. Interesting to hear Barry Robson comment on the fact that Paton and Rankin cover a lot of ground but don't actually have the quality to change the game.
  20. Once we missed those two early chances I knew exactly how the game was going to pan out. Scully isn't good enough for the top level but he stopped it being a cricket score today. The team is devoid of confidence, complete shadow of the team that chased top 6. Welsh was rubbish today but there is literally no out ball for the midfield. We play so narrow I genuinely think a Junior team could keep us at bay. Even when we do go wide the inevitable cross is either to nobody or nobody has bothered to make a run. For me, this season can't end quickly enough. The atmosphere at Firhill today (and last week) has been brutal. In fighting amongst fans and abuse towards the players and management. Due to other commitments that was my last game of the season today, can't say I'm disappointed.
  21. None of our midfielders are direct enough. Even when they do eventually move forward 9 times out of 10 they will turn back or knock it sideways which slows the whole move up. Our delivery from the wings is hopeless, the cross which led to the goal came from our defensive midfielder. Lindsay has had a lot of praise this year but I've never really been a fan. Slow, ponderous (not alone mind you) and lacks awareness. Amoo's miss at the end summed it all up.
  22. Welsh the only one to blame for the 2nd goal? How about 2 guys going towards one Dundee player? Or Lindsay losing Hemmings? Shot ourselves in the foot once again. So toothless upfront.
  23. Great news. Hopefully a few more to come over the next few weeks. Booth has been terrific all season, another guy who has turned his career around under Archie and Shaggy's guidance.
  24. Where to start. First half was abysmal. Started nervously and were second to everything. Defence were all over the place, how it stayed 0-0 only Tomas Cerny can tell you. His save from Rankin was top drawer. Second half, I think Frans getting injured was a blessing in disguise. He'd been poor but the intro of Dumbuya was a game changer. His pace alone immediately put United on the back foot, something they hadn't had to do for 50mins. Miller was poor in the first half but I thought he was terrific at centre half, defence looked a lot more assured. Booth was getting forward at will, when we counter attack with him, Dumbuya and Amoo at full pelt not many teams can cope with it. I've been critical of Welsh but was really impressed by his 2nd half showing. If he'd tucked away his chance it would have been a terrific goal. He seemed to move the ball quicker in the 2nd half which got us going. As for the goal, brilliant work by Dumbuya, great dummy by Amoo and the finish by Doolan was top drawer. He wasn't at his best tonight but he always knows where the net is. He deserves all the plaudits going. Legend. We should enjoy this Jags team, even when the chips are down like in the first half they never stop battling and more often than not have found a way to grind out the wins. Let's go out and stuff County, this team deserve a shot at the top 6. Brilliant support through by United but in the 2nd half their team never got a sniff. Good to see Craigen back as well, spoke like a gent at half time, always welcome at Firhill.
