  1. Good answer. Why have these people got it in for him?
  2. So you think there are partick thistle supporters who would prefer the club to be relegated rather than Caldwell succeed??
  3. There's been a few posters on here recently having a dig saying that anybody who has criticised Caldwell must be gutted cos he's had a few decent results. This is stupid and these people don't understand football. Its the club that football fans support not the manager. If a bad manager is destroying the club he deserves criticism if he turns things around or is replaced by a good manager then that manager deserves praise. The club hasn't turned any corners yet and remains in a precarious position. End of February will give a more realistic picture of where we are. At that point fans can make an assessment and give the manager the praise or criticism he deserves. Nobody has got it in for Caldwell. If he has got the job under false pretences he should be booted out. If he has ability and brings success the fans will love him. Football is played in the moment and opinions on a forum have a lifespan.
  4. Unusually this thread has gone slightly off topic! In our current predicament it really doesn't matter whether Doolan is a legend or not. Like everything else in football things change fast but based on the evidence we have at the moment we do not have a striker at the club to get us moving up the league. Mansell has never played at this level, Doolan is struggling and Roy looked poor. Sammons name keeps reappearing but he is hopeless. Based on the Stranraer game Caldwells signings have generally improved the team but the striking position once again has not been addressed. It would be kinda strange if Caldwell now brought another striker in. The alternative is for one of the three to hit some sort of form which at present looks unlikely ( Maybe unfairly in Mansells case I'm basing this on his cv rather than watching him play ). In short if we are to save our place in the Championship its looking like we will have to do it without a proven goalscorer. It makes things tougher but not impossible. Anybody got Lyle Taylors phone number??
  5. I don't know about Caldwell but I think someone is trying to drive me from the club!!!!!!!
  6. Sammon is not who we need right now....... or any other time for that matter. Things are bad enough as it is.
  7. I agree that in the grand scheme of things next week doesn't matter but a defeat or even a draw to a lower league side has to be taken as undeniable evidence that the Caldwell experiment has / will not work.
  8. I was at todays game. As a frequent critic of Caldwell on here I stick with what I posted a few weeks ago that next week is a defining game. If we cannot beat Stranraer his time at the club must end. The team is definitely playing better than they were at the start of the season. The early games like the ones at somerset park and Tannadice were some of the worst I have ever seen by thistle teams. I have posted on here often that while most folk are caught up in PT’s defensive frailties ( which are many ) the problem over a long period of time is up front. Nobody argues that Doolan has consistently been one of the best strikers in Scotland but today he contributed nothing. Other than him we have not had a decent striker / goalscorer at the club in many years . Lyle Taylor the only one I can remember. Possession is half the battle but the other half is actually troubling the other team. We don’t have the players or the tactics at the club just now to score goals and for that reason we are going down a division for the second season in a row. The only thing that will save us will be the purchase of a goalscorer and a change in tactics to ensure that he is effective. Must admit I also feel sorry for Caldwell he inherited a team that was in total disrepair. Last summers transfer window was a complete shambles. However, he accepted a contract on the basis he could turn things around and now has to live up to that. He is not doing that and time is not on his side. He was also not helped by a fud of a referee and a Falkirk team who knew how to pressure a weak referee.
  9. When your place in the team is a given and your names are first on the team sheet why would you ?
  10. Haha! Storey remains first name on the team sheet .
  11. When did his replacement last have a really good performance?
  12. Happy with the Saunders signing. If Caldwell now announces he is leaving the club by mutual consent it will be an outstanding days business by the club and we can start getting optimistic again!!
  13. Yes, interesting. I think any of them would significantly improve the team. I have major doubts if any of them would come to Thistle. Mackie looked a real player when he came on in Hibs victory over Celtic a few weeks ago. I think he would be looking to push for a first team place. Same goes for Wright. I think only Saunders is realistic. We have to look at where we are as a club at the moment. We're not a very attractive place to be for players wishing to showcase their talent...……. but if you don't ask you don't get!!
  14. The big game is home to Stranraer in the Cup. If / when we lose that his position becomes untenable!!
  15. Found the interview very awkward. It was like a kid who had failed all his exams getting interviewed in front of his mum and being forced to explain how he was going to do better. If we got one shot on target tomorrow for every minute of that interview, that would give me more hope than anything said.
  16. Incredibly bizarre post at many levels. Caldwell gets stick on here because of results and lack of any sign that he can improve things. No other reason. IF he does improve things he will get everybody's support To suggest that everybody would be happy right now if he was ex Rangers is frankly absurd and possibly the result of too much xmas sherry!
  17. FFS!! Take it you didn't manage to catch him playing for us last season!!! Total dud. Motherwell sussed him out in about 3 games
  18. The boys of the Northy choir Were singing "Caldwell get tae feck" And Gary C was getting it big time in the neck You're a bum You're a punk You're an old slut on junk Sitting there in the dug out with a big head You scumbag, you maggot You cheap lousy faggot Happy Christmas your arse I pray God it's our last The boys of the Northy choir Still singing "Caldwell get tae feck!"
  19. Lots of talent and potential. I would love to have seen him develop at PT but had to go. Would probably be best signing up with a shrink before he signs for another club. Needs a manager who will be really hard on him. Although he was sent off a few times the red cards were mainly for mouthing off and there may have been an element of poor refereeing as much as anything. Another point in his favour is that he was one of the few players in recent times that actually put in a challenge on a Celtic player!!! Having said that while he was on the park for the first team you always felt we were on the verge of going down to 10 men and at the moment things are hard enough with 11.
  20. Category3 should be category 1. They are all talented and MUST be retained. Their problem is they are young and inexperienced but being expected to carry a team of either useless or underperforming seasoned professionals. Category 1’s could be replaced. They do not offer enough in an attacking sense and Spittal can’t find his way in there on the back of just 1 or 2 decent performances in a year and a half. The Category 2’s are a total mystery. Elliot has picked up a bit from early season when he cost us goals and matches but it’s really difficult to explain the lack of performnces from the other 2 who were expected to be our main assets in a push to get back to the SPL. Agree that it would be massive if the 2 long term injuries came back and performed at their best.
  21. Here's how it is: Archibald had to be removed as he had clearly lost his way. Caldwell was brought in, told the board he represented a successful new beginning. Despite folk on here incredibly coming on telling us the team are looking sharper, fitter etc every week Caldwell doesn't have a fecken scoobie Football is a results driven business and as difficult as it seems to do the board have to get rid of this *rsehole and replace him with someone who can get this team back on track. I am a fan of 40+ years and followed the team home and away for that time. I'm done. No more attendance and no more posting until something changes at the club. Whether that be Caldwell turning thing things around with an unprecedented number of successful signings or whether that be his sacking and replacement by somebody competent I'm not bothered. I've got my memories. These memories are often of a struggling club and although it was hard at the time it was always a laugh and always enjoyable and I enjoyed being part of the rollercoaster and would have followed the jags anywhere. Its not fun any more.
  22. I agree. I actually think the GREATER problem is in attack and has been for a long time and that's saying something given the state of the defence. Love to see the stats for the past 18 months showing league games played and total shots on target for those games.
  23. This penalty debate kinda sums up the state of the club. Given that these are full time professional footballers, do we not have one that can be trusted to put the ball in the net from 12yards!!!!!! You have to accept that at any level there will be some penalties missed or saved but our percentage seems incredibly low. At a higher level of football players have the ability to place their kick but surely we should have someone able to hit it on target so hard that there is a high chance of success. Maybe just sums up what we already know about our inability to score goals. Even if the keeper wasn't there I wouldn't trust Spittal or Storey to score!! Probably my favourite would have been Bannigan. I was not a huge fan of Sean Welsh but I seem to recall his record was ok. Muirhead too was ok although he missed a big one in the Challenge Cup Final a few years back before we went out......................on penalties!!
  24. The is no way Caldwell will be sacked before the end of the season and shouldn’t be. Clubs who serially sack their manager tend o be chaotic and unstable. Despite this I worry that Caldwell has morphed into Archie, ignoring failure and totally stubborn as regards team selection. What really gets me is our record says we are pretty much the worst team in Scotland yet there is a pool of players who cant get a game. Max Melbourne is on the books of WBA but isn’t good enough to be brought into the left back role to allow Penrice to move forward. Scobie and Jeffries cant get into a defence that ships goals on a weekly basis sometimes as many as 5 in one go. I cant remember McCarthy having a really bad game fot thistle and that includes games against the OF. However he cant get a start at the moment and Fitzpatrick struggles to get his foot in the door I’ll probably get pelters for this but I think in an attacking team Storer would be a talent if a manager was hard on him and tell him to cut out the nutcase stuff. So why have we signed half a team of players that are not good enough for a losing team or do neither of our managers this season have the nerve or ability to change the team to bring them in? On a personal note this is probably my lowest ebb as a thistle fan of forty plus years. I feel like a boxer in the corner just getting repeatedly punched and looking for a way out but no respite seems to be coming. I hate all the negativity about the place and that includes my own. I don’t share all the enthusiasm of those who think we turned a corner yesterday. You don’t miss penalties and you don’t keep playing players who have proved over many months that they don’t have it. I'm not expecting anything great against Falkirk but who knows I'm at a stage now when a lucky 0-0 draw would feel like winning the league!! January is not the light at the end of the tunnel some people think it is. There are contracts to honour and good players are not clamouring to sign for a team bottom of the Championship. There will be changes but they will not be major. With Alloa and Falkirk possibly improving I fear the worst but we need to stick with Caldwell and he needs to do his job and live up to his excellent interview presentation!
