  1. Great post and thank you. I will be gutted if he leaves. To me Wilson and Graham have shown enough to be given a chance to drive it on. Theyd need to look at the overall structure so he’s not doing as much. Makes no sense to me, how a guy like Imrie, or even Murray or Kettlewell have much if anything more to offer in terms of experience or a record of success. Just speculation, as dont know who is getting the job. Either way, Graham has been phenomenal for our club, Wilson has impressed me. Hard to be enthused or excited if we lose that. Give him and Wilson the job, get few players in, get few younger ones in team and go again.
  2. How much do you reckon we made from those? Guessing 750k-1m. I always thought that if we're generating enough to cover the cost of the Academy that's the starting point. We then need some players to make it into the team to benefit the team and attract others. I guess the broader benefits are our place in the community and strengthening us as a club overall. Lambie teams were great and based on older players but you could never sustain that for long.
  3. He's never played in goal or up front, is he versatile enough for our demanding fan base?
  4. That was my first home game this year. My only other match was Falkirk away at start of season - so I sure can pick them & apologies for bringing my jinx to the game. What I can say about both matches is they totally align to that statement above. Players look short of belief in the method they are playing or trying to play, no plan B, turned over by teams who player for player may (or may not) have less skill, but certainly had effective way of closing down, getting ball up pitch faster, attacking with more variety or intent. There's a nucleus of good players (McBeth, O'Reilly, Graham included) but relying solely on trying go up the wings or defence unable to play forward cause of lack of movement and a midfield that moves like an oil tanker looks like poor coaching to me. How people can watch that every week with any faith, belief or enjoyment I don't know & I applaud you all for your resilience. Even if we scrape into the playoffs, we would never go up and to me we are drifting in the wrong direction So maybe unfair to judge on what I was told was our worst Firhill performance for seasons along with reading this forum daily. What I can say though is I left thinking I wont be rushing back next time I'm back over & I just want to tune out until next season and see where we are at then. I think I'd have to go back to losing 6-0 at home to Gretna to having left feeling that scunnered.
  5. Cards on table living over here the only game Ive seen this season was Falkirk. Not a good game to judge Diack who was isolated but his touch was poor. That said I thought Nisbett was same and lacking skill so what do I know. However, Ablade looked the business. Direct and threatening and put the ball in the net. Guess my gripe goes back to playing one way with one centre forward. Surely worth trying even benching Fitzpatrick whose not fit enough for the first half and playing 4-4-2 then changing it. If a player is dangerous find a way to start him. Football should be a simple game with the best players on the pitch. Between Steve Clarke and Doolan I’m a bit scunnered (and Im not even a regular paying punter right now) Should add hope Doolan proves me wrong and turns it around, Clarke I’m done with
  6. I’ve not been able to read through all of the long posts on the thread but to me I am pinning the solution on one thing, Terry Ablade. Get him started.
  7. Nail on the head. Why we only ever play one centre forward at a time or why we never change how we play makes us both ineffective and so easy to know how to play against that we’ve now lost to Clyde and Alloa.
  8. Very nice Bought the home top but the sleeves stop me getting any others. Dont like the elastic round edges at end arms as uncomfortable on my big guns! Which is unfortunate as I’d worked out O’Neills sizes (add on few sizes for adults, go other way for kids) sufficiently that my big belly is perfectly comfortable, just thunder and lightning (credit Phil Modern Family) that feel uncomfortable. Think will add the purple training top back in stock as its a stoater and no restrictions for the big armed big bellied community
  9. In amongst the dodgy ref, turnstile and stewarding shambles and Stanway’s brain fart, a thought. If we’d managed to hold out for 10 minutes for the draw, Terry Ablade’s debut off the bench would have lasted longer in the memory. Looks like he has strength, skill, touch and put the ball in the net. Okay hard to judge so early BUT this forum for months has stressed the need for a forward, a goalie and a right back. I saw enough on Saturday to be excited by 2 of the 3 (Roberts looks top class). Get Nilsson or Sayers in at right back, give Ablade a start and lets destroy Queens Park and get some belief and positivity going. Nothing to fear and all to play for!
  10. Was part of the problem the stewards were all just young and no-one with bit sense or experience to manage them? Not justifying and just asking Probably not helped by lack turnstiles and people angry at getting in late also. Either way something they can learn from you’d hope. I was in the ground super early and staff i encountered were really friendly. Of course my judgement was clouded by a great steak pie, excitement of the game to come and remembering Erskines goal that time we won the league
  11. I do go occasionally but it’s hard to get excited by any team that’s not Thistle and I tend to be reading this forum but tracking their results on a Friday night . Doesn’t help that their home top is back being green and white (all be it mainly white) instead of a nice Cork red. They have had their fair share of yo yoing over the years themselves but bouncing back this season. One good thing about the Irish league is they play March to November and Friday nights. While I’m a traditionalist it is nice to be sat out watching it in the summer and leaves the weekend free (to get over the huff if you get beaten)!
  12. Thanks for that. I did have my match ticket and a hire car from Edinburgh to weech me to the Montrose game in the League Cup and would've seen us win last month but the Ryan Air flight was delayed so i missed it. It could be a Michael O’Leary inspired hoo doo. Will try Aer Lingus and if we can keep 10 on the park that might get the joy back into my life! I think we’ll come good, either way still loved being back with my tribe today even if my kids told me I needed to calm down 😂
  13. Back home from Ireland on holiday with kids and that was a mixed day. I kinda guessed after the great steak pie before game would be all downhill. Managing 2 games a season and thats 5 years since I’ve seen us win, so either I’m a jinx or we’re not very good. 16 year old son is obsessed with Man U also and watched them lose on his phone just before kick off so foul mood tonight! Great crowd and impressive and noisy away support. Fair play to Falkirk for that support too, and reckon they have momentum but jury out on if they're much good. Our goalie is class, Ablade looks really good, beyond that not many positives. Diack’s touch is poor but tough day judge anyone. Stanway killed the game and ref was brutal. However I reckon Falkirks players may not be as good as ours but they've a settled team and a clear way of playing. Lacking in quality but effective way they move ball around and create space. I’d start Nillson at full back, put Mcbeth in defence with Ashcroft or OReilly and start with 2 up front Fitzpatrick needs be fitter and we need sort midfield. Either way just win and I promise to stay away and not jinx us
  14. Was over in Scotland visiting family and planned it around the game on Saturday. Wasn't travelling as far as the folk from Chicago or Stockholm but did opt for a stayover in a hotel on Saturday and an 11 hour drive/ferry trip back in one day to Cork on Sunday just to watch Thistle (and get the wee man back to school for Monday). 3 minutes into the second half I knew we'd lose. Anyway, lets not dwell - I just had to mention something strange. To kill time on Saturday afterwards with my 14 year old son (who had also been traumatised at Firhill, but was happy as had at least got the new away top in the shop), we grabbed dinner and then a film at Braehead. Options were limited, so we end up watching, "Something in the Dirt, " a supernatural / "comedy." We were the only two in the screening and not surprised as the film was honking. But here's the the twist, one of the 2 actors was Aaron Moorhead !!! So in 1 day we had sat through 2 horror shows from Aaron Muirhead/ Moorhead Anyway, anyone who can watch that Thistle team every week has to be made of strong stuff. My last visit we lost 1-0 at home to Raith with a 93rd minute goal (back in April) May be for best (for omens and my mental health) if I skip Firhill on my next sojourn home!
