  1. Anybody got any new information on this?
  2. Darius, according to his official website. That's probably old hat, but this one, from today's "Kent Online" surprised me: GORDON HENDERSON, Sittingbourne and Sheppey (Conservative) Cheerfully independent, Gordon Henderson has finally made it to Parliament at the third attempt and at the age of 62. Victory is a sweet one for this avowedly local candidate - he has lived on Sheppey for 30 years - given that he had thought he'd won last time only for those hopes to be dashed after a recount. He describes himself as a true "Man of Kent", growing up on a council estate and going to local schools before leaving at the age of 16 to work for Woolworths as a stockroom assistant in Chatham. He carved a career there, staying for 15 years and becoming a store manager before leaving in 1979 and taking on new challenges - including running his own restaurant in South Africa. He is a self-employed management consultant. His affection for Sheppey is captured by his willingness to be labelled an adopted "Swampie" and he is proud of his links to the community. Gordon is married to Louise, has three children and seven grandchildren, who are all girls. He is also a long standing supporter of Gillingham FC and Partick Thistle FC. Politically, he is on the right of the party and has not hidden his Euro-sceptic views, signing up to the "˜Better Off Out of Europe" group. He recently said that he had "no ambition to climb up the greasy pole" - and he is less like a careerist politician than most - and cited Frank Field, the long-standing Labour MP as someone he admired. Little known fact: He has written five unpublished novels and many short stories Ideal job: MP for Sittingbourne and Sheppey
  3. Yep, ultimately a poor (and timid) decision.
  4. Some others will probably remember Nobby Clark, late 60s into the mid 70s. Reliable defender, whose only goal for Thistle was against the h u n s at Ibrox. I didn't realise that he went on to play 340 times for Queen of the South, and even got them promoted as manager. He also got a League Cup Winner's medal for playing in some of our early round matches. I found this good article: http://www.qosfc.com/new_legendsview.aspx?playerid=1041
  5. That replaces Slumdog Millionaire in my list!
  6. Yep, thanks for the reminder. A good deal, that I'll be taking up.
  7. Good level of agreement between you and me.
  8. Correct. The football is quite different to that on a grass pitch, even with the "top grade" artificial surfaces.
  9. Didn't Paul Paton take them for a long spell last season? Anyway, it's been years since we've consistently looked dangerous from corners. In contrast, my heart is in my mouth these days every time we concede one.
  10. In no particular order: The Wizard of Oz Babe The Mission Brigadoon Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Once Upon a Time in the West Dark Star Slaughterhouse 5 Das Boot Slumdog Millionaire The Shootist Local Hero
  11. Anybody else watch this morning's defeat to Argentina, and think this was yesterday's match all over again (except for the weather)?
  12. I've been wondering about exactly that too. Let the Warriors do something with the main stand and bing. Firhill Stadium/Arena jointly owned, with both clubs getting first refusal if the other wants to sell.
  13. Excellent photies, especially the last one, of Livi's winner..... Bye the way, isn't our away outfit this season a belter! Except for the big cartoon insect on the shorts.......
  14. Dead right it's a must-win game for us, but maybe not so much as to keep us within sniffing distance of the top spot as to keep us away from the bottom of the league!
  15. Excellent photies. Good game, but we wiz robbed.
  16. I thought he looked impressive too. Worth giving him a few starts to get him up to match fitness, I reckon. With him, Sinclair, Hutton and Elliott, it's good to see a Thistle team with some height and bulk for once.
  17. This. Faced with that loose ball at the end that they scored from, we'd probably have tried to pass it in nearer the goal before somebody dared to shoot.
  18. Man of the Match, I reckon. Dealt with crosses and corners perfectly, and one point-blank save from Cairney in the 2nd half. Cairney had an excellent match, but should have buried that (and probably would 9 times out of 10). As somebody mentioned, his corners were all floaters that the keeper dealt with easily, but I reckon that's what he was instructed to do. Doolan should have scored in the first half, but he opted to pass it to Elliott, who should also have scored but was probably surprised to receive the pass when everybody thought that Doolan would shoot. In all, the team played really well; we'll play much worse and lose. Paton and somebody else shouldn't have allowed them to scramble free on the wing for the cross to come in for Livi's first. Deuchar took the header really well, but he was unmarked. Sinclair looks top notch. Hutton looks classy too, but tried to be too classy on a couple of occasions and got caught out. Archie and Balatoni played solidly, thought the former had one crazy moment in the second half that we were lucky to escape from. Rowser never stopped running; great effort. Elliott looks like he could do a lot of damage to a lot of teams. Took his goal well; it basically came out of the blue from a half-hearted clearance by a defender. Doolan put in a shift, but little to show for it. Erskine had a couple of good runs, but little came off. The team played well together, but I was worried in the last 10 min because Livi seemed to have more steam left than we did. They were heading direct for goal, whereas we were persisting with our slow, tip-tap-try-patiently-to-find-an-opening routine. And unfortunately it is routine to the point where defences can often suss it out. Livi finished the stronger. As for Fox, well, he's a great keeper, but that's several times where he's failed to deal with a cross on his line. Halliwell got slaughtered for as much last season. So, instead of being within one victory from going top of the league, we're now one point away from the relegation spot. Victory over Morton on Friday is a must.

  21. Info appreciated, thanks. Queen St to Livi North it is, then.
