  1. Has your favoured party (whatever it is) never put forward policies that you think are awful, or instigated cuts that have led to job losses? Think about it: your opener, that the SNP won "because there was no one else to vote for" says it all.
  2. Last night I was wondering whether an Iain McCall team could have produced that kind of performance and result. I don't think so. The whole atmosphere about the team seems to have changed, not to mention the style of football being played. If I had any criticisms last night they would be 1) a tendency to overpass in tight little circles, especially when too near to our own goal and the opposition ready to pounce on any mistake; 2) a tendency to give away far too many fouls just outside our penalty box. I counted eight last night, most of which were daft fouls to give away. In contrast, we had only one foul in a similar position (the sending off incident). These fouls could well cost us goals.
  3. When he's on a run, the way he knocks the ball past the defender to one side than just breezes past him on the other side is just brilliant to see. Poor guy had no answer, and probably had nightmares about Sinclair last night.
  4. Agreed. I think it's also worth mentioning that Balatoni didn't put a foot wrong, and the Cairney continues to be right in the middle of just about all of our attacks; I think we can say that he's now back to being the player we hoped he would become two years ago.
  5. I'll stick my neck out and say that this is actually the best-looking Thistle team that I've seen in years. We've got some height, some really classy classy players, some dig, and guys all over the park who can score. Jackie and Sid deserve a lot of credit on the showing so far. To anybody out there who doesn't go to games these days even if they could: get yersel along to Firhill to see these guys while they are still playing for Thistle!
  6. I reckon you could add Aaron Sinclair too. He's destined for much bigger and better things, I suspect.
  7. Brilliant set of photos, and a rather pleasing evening.
  8. Some interesting bits of information about Firhill of old on this site: http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://discuss.glasgowguide.co.uk/uploads/monthly_11_2009/post-7662-1259002430_thumb.jpg&imgrefurl=http://discuss.glasgowguide.co.uk/index.php%3Fact%3DPrint%26%2520client%3Dprinter%26%2520f%3D65%26%2520t%3D7858&usg=__N7PzJn_Jw77gwOe0AqMQchImyHA=&h=500&w=393&sz=40&hl=en&start=23&sig2=3i1gAUw_LmkFbAdHxOzvzw&zoom=1&tbnid=Nci6YZDum7OF9M:&tbnh=130&tbnw=102&ei=wKiFTtutGIWX8QPxkOxW&prev=/search%3Fq%3DMaryhill%2BMagyars%26start%3D21%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN%26gbv%3D2%26tbm%3Disch&itbs=1
  9. A return to groats and merks is the way forward.
  10. Guid tae see that this is now a sell-out. Lesson: Offer attractive lures that are affordable to many folk and the punters will bite.
  11. Still painful to think back on that one.
  12. Xanthic (A yellowish colour. Honest; I found it on the interweb.)
  13. The Scottish Cup win at Dens Park a few years ago still brings a warm glow. Gerry Britton's superb goal, then Andy Gibson's late winner had us all raising the roof. Jaggernautess, patiently waiting outside in the car to pick me up after the game, still reminds me that I babbled like an incoherent monkey all the way home.
  14. Absolutely no idea. But a good excuse to mention our Sunday game against Ferranti Thistle in the Scottish Cup. I'm guessing now, but I think it was 1976, and just about the first Sunday game we'd ever had. (I could check my Official History book, but that's too easy.) There were newspaper interviews with the Livingston Ferranti players about how this was so exciting for them. I think we won 6-1.
  15. Yep, total respect for that one. I phoned my old man afterwards to tell him about it, and I was gibbering like a drunken monkey. Great memory.
  16. That will be a wonderful event.... English rugby ex-captain making inane remarks to English cricket ex-captain, or something like that, with Sue Barker going "Tee hee hee.", aimed at middle England BBC audience. Or you could have Alan Rough slagging off Kenny Dalglish, Davie McP telling it like it is when we put the tims to the sword, Denis McQuade reminding us again of how he bamboozled the Pope's 11's defence.....etc.etc., and probably for the last time in our life..... Red and yella everywhere........ Anyway, have a nice evening with Sue & Co.
  17. Aye, me an'all. And apart from Metz in Metz, that was the last one until the next one comes along. Metz, now that was a Jags supporters' experience bettered maybe only by the League Cup Final of '71. I actually pity the young Jags' fans of these days,...they're brilliant, and I give them my utmost respect because they still have to get to know such times. I only hope that such times will come around again sooner rather than later...! Edited several times to correct the wine-induced typos; I think I got away with it.
