Sometimes you've got to laugh, sometimes you've just got to shake your head in disbelief, sometimes you end up fizzing angry. In a well-known building society/bank this morning (no names, but SPL here they come), with the simple, straightforward intention of switching the piddling amount of savings which I have in a "gold account" to a better-rate "Platinum notice account". I have two other account books with me from the same society, and a letter addressed to me from another bank, and a travel card with a photo. I reckon that if I had simply wanted to withdraw any money they would have given it to me, as I was there with my books, and I go there regularly. But, following their electronic checks and questions (all of which I was able to answer satisfactorily, I believe), and hopefully transfer my funds into a new account...... No, sorry Sir; impossible without "appropriate" photo ID. So, there I was, not trying to withdraw any money, not trying to even to pay in any money, merely hoping to switch from one account of theirs to another, with the money that they already have, and having completed their electronic procedures. Sorry, Sir; impossible......

Strange, but no, I don't remember hearing either of those. Maybe I'm getting a bit corned beef.

I'd guess that their Board has already taken the decision one way or another, but it's an interesting dilemma. Rip up the turf, buy and lay another plastic pitch; that must represent a fair outlay when their income from the SPL has just diminished enormously. But with the artificial pitch there's almost nothing in the way of maintenance costs, and the place can be hired out to bring in income. But then if they did that and did win the league, it would need to get ripped out again, etc. etc. I reckon that, like most teams that get relegated from the SPL, they believe that they can win promotion first time around, so they'll stick with grass next season.

It's been a while since any new songs (as opposed to a simple chant) have emerged and caught on. Remember the Trigger Wonderland song, and the Archiebald (Robin Hood tune) ditty? Excellent songs. The last one that we had, with its slightly quirky overtones, was probably the one praising Gary Harkins. Since then, it's been a simple "Liam Buchanan (clap clap clap), or Dooooolan, Dooooolan..... Here's hoping that the creative musical minds in the shed come up with some Eurovision-standard new ones for the new season.

Paxman wasn't happy last night because wee Nicola wasn't for letting him bully her the way he feels is his right with other politicians. All he could do was the to continue the perpetual sneer on his face, which was accentuated even more than normal because he was seething. He probably realises that not only do the Scots now not automatically get him for a full hour every night, in the not-too-distant future we might be saying cheerio to him for ever.

As somebody else has already mentioned, he always flattered to deceive. Not one of my favourite Jags players from that period, though if truth be told there aren't all that many.

Can't wait until we unveil our new strip, and try to get off to a flying start to the next campaign, which I think will go right to the wire.

When we were at Dens the other week, I was "impressed" by the sheer number of cheques for x thousands and y thousands that their fans had managed to con out of the public raise for their cause. They'd already not paid off their debts by then, so all that money goes straight into next season's budget, and with relatively big crowds they'll be getting more income than most of the clubs. But they won't win promotion. You heard it here first.
