  1. This is weird: because we hammered them at Firhill in the covid season, and also sliced through them at their stadium when we got promoted, well, I really don't mind too much if they end up putting us to the sword at Firhill in front of as many of their fans as they're allowed. BUT, we have a promotion play-off stake at risk, so we've got to F*****k them! Monra Jags!
  2. I wouldn't be too upset if Kettlewell became our manager. Having grown up in Katewell Avenue, and having been told often enough to put the Kettle on; well, "a watched kettle never boils." But it can be heated enough to make a good cuppa. Thank you.
  3. Things seem to have changed since when "Hey Auld, are you watching this?" was considered by some to be unacceptable harassment. I'd love to know what the "banter" was at matches in say, the 1920s, or even before then...... (Over to our talented wordsmiths....!)
  4. So we can look forward to more broken seats and stolen/burnt supporters' banners......
  5. I see what you mean there. But who knows; "The Great Unpredictables" might live up to their (now dated?) name?! Anyway, I'll be watching in the middle of the night, scratching my face and tearing my hair out (what's left of it).
  6. Here goes: Wee goalies! Niven: 5'9" or so? A fine and capable servant for the Jags. Tuffey: 5'10"? Decent enough for us. Went on to do quite well when he left (I think). Me: 5'7". Never got a fair chance to impress.
  7. He did indeed, though I was never there...
  8. Great to know that TTA will survive and prosper. I'm still traumatised by the impending loss of this forum. (As I was with OLAS and then ptfc.net. Not quite so much for Driftwood, lol!)
  9. What a shame there's no video of that match. JG was so unbelievably good that day. I'm pretty sure I posted a fine photo of him skinning one or two Celtic players in the LCF, but I don't recall seeing a picture of him in action against the other erse cheek at Firhill. I remember chatting to the wee man at Firhill on some social occasion 20 or so years ago. He appeared genuinely humble, and even surprised at being recognised and so fondly remembered.
  10. I wrote a post a few years ago about the average size of the 1921 Cup-winning team: it was only around 5'8", if I remember correctly. I guess that in the last century the average height of folk has increased by a couple of inches. Apparently one of the biggest spurts in height was in post-war Netherlands, where the average height is now one of the tallest in Europe.
  11. Fair enough, if that's what you think. Do you really think that the likes of David Klein, Dave the Ukranian, Gabby Piccolo, Armand One, Mooc, among others, were signed without the expectation that they would improve upon what we already had, or that we could get among Scottish players? Stephan Bonnes? For me, it's more likely to have been "he's foreign, so probably better than average ("average" being Scottish!). Fortunately, occasionally we get somebody who does seem to be above average.
  12. Good question! Bobby Lawrie must have been no bigger than 5'5" or 5'6". Maybe not in the "gems" category, but fondly remembered wee players are John Flanagan, John Craig, James Grady, Alex Burns, and Paul Walker.
  13. Remember that wonderful covid era evening game when we hammered Falkirk at Firhill? (Jags fans at the gate by the canal.). And the brilliant win at Falkirk when we won the league? I have a feeling that the Bairns are going to do something similar to us on Friday.
  14. Original post: "....although we probably haven't been quite so prone to it as some others."
  15. That doesn't stop some people blaming Doolan for the signing and contract.
  16. Apologies for the half-inebriated response. I've seen names from various clubs (people who've done nothing (ZILCH) at their previous/current cub) being touted to take over. No! No thanks! Let guys who know our weaknesses and any strengths we might have take us forward.
  17. Like so many other clubs, we just follow the trendy trend, which these days is the idea that for football, foreign must be better than home-spun, although we probably haven't been quite so prone to it as some others.
  18. It also highlights how sickening our own performances have been and continue to be.
  19. On the game: first, a pretty good defensive performance. Dunfermline were bigger, faster, stronger, but they really managed only one shot on target, near the very end (I could see it going in), but Mitchell saved it well. And although our "attacking" play was frankly gash, we stumbled onto a few chances, which their keeper saved or (with BBG's toe-ender) it hit the bar. Second, a draw was a fair result. We are not an attractive team to watch. All season long it has been boring, uninventive, repetitive, predictable mediocrity. Let's spoil Falkirk's party next week!
  20. Shortly after kick-off, I thought there was no way we'd survive without shipping a goal. But here we are, half-time, and in fact it's the Dunfermline goalie who has had to make a couple of good blocks. Fitzy should surely have scored when through alone on the keeper. We've had one corner and two free-kicks good for crossing, but in all three situations, the "cross" didn't get past the first defender. Very poor! But most of our play isn't very good, so 'Monra Jags!
  21. IMO, Doolan should still be our manager.
  22. We once allowed them to score 10 against us at the end of the season and they thereby avoided relegation. Maybe brown envelopes will prevail......
  23. Wish I'd seen the Quo live.... Love watching their performances on video.
