  1. I've always believed that's why we lost that day....
  2. Sorry, LIB, but three "buts" in three of four sentences leaves me confused about what the take-home message is from that! But never fear. I think the Jags might just surprise a lot of folk. I agree that we should go for the win, but that doesn't mean recklessness. It could be a tough watch, but maybe also a delight.
  3. It looked to me as if Bannigan realized his boot was high and in fact didn't complete the tackle, but the Falkirk player still crumpled and refs just love going for that second yellow.
  4. By the way, the awful pitch invasion after our second goal illustrates perfectly why it was the correct decision not to allow the Falkirk fans into part of the JH stand. Idiots, including "grown" men, who think it's smart or big not just to celebrate the winner, but to run on to the pitch and across to goad the Falkirk supporters, some of whom reply with missiles of various sorts. Ugly and primitive, unfortunately.
  5. Hmm, Bannigan might be a strong candidate for our next player-manager..........
  6. We also played Dalmuir few times. It was definitely more challenging!
  7. It is. The streets mentioned in the posts above were in Drumchapel.
  8. I played on that 9-hole course many times, especially during school holidays. My golf never really improved!
  9. Well, another game vs. Falkirk that will linger in the memory. First, apart from the obvious idiot, full marks to every player who gave their all when they were on the pitch, and to the managers for adjusting the formation for damage limitation, and making good -- nay, excellent substitutions. Really no criticisms of any of the players who helped us toward that totally unexpected win, but special mention to Mitchell (some important saves, dealt competently with crosses), Megwa (wish he'd been on such good form earlier in the season), Ashcroft, O'Reilly, McBeth; and to Graham and Chalmers for the sheer grit and amount of ground covered. I had a feeling that Fitzy was looking like he meant business, and I wasn't happy when he got replaced by Turner for tactical reasons, but it was part of the plan that worked. Absolutely delighted for Ablade. Definitely worth getting up at 3:15 am for.
  10. No soap; stale bread and puddle water for nourishment.
  11. He was excellent throughout. I hate time-wasting by keepers, but he did what he had to do.
  12. Right, serious question; Does Bannigan do this deliberately? It happens so much, I can't help thinking there's something "not right" behind it. Anyway, he's slow, can't keep up with he pace any more, just a clugger. Get rid of him asap.
  13. We lived in no. 20. Left in 1972 for leafy Knightswood. Loved growing up in the Drum.
  14. This is weird: because we hammered them at Firhill in the covid season, and also sliced through them at their stadium when we got promoted, well, I really don't mind too much if they end up putting us to the sword at Firhill in front of as many of their fans as they're allowed. BUT, we have a promotion play-off stake at risk, so we've got to F*****k them! Monra Jags!
  15. I wouldn't be too upset if Kettlewell became our manager. Having grown up in Katewell Avenue, and having been told often enough to put the Kettle on; well, "a watched kettle never boils." But it can be heated enough to make a good cuppa. Thank you.
  16. Things seem to have changed since when "Hey Auld, are you watching this?" was considered by some to be unacceptable harassment. I'd love to know what the "banter" was at matches in say, the 1920s, or even before then...... (Over to our talented wordsmiths....!)
  17. So we can look forward to more broken seats and stolen/burnt supporters' banners......
  18. I see what you mean there. But who knows; "The Great Unpredictables" might live up to their (now dated?) name?! Anyway, I'll be watching in the middle of the night, scratching my face and tearing my hair out (what's left of it).
  19. Here goes: Wee goalies! Niven: 5'9" or so? A fine and capable servant for the Jags. Tuffey: 5'10"? Decent enough for us. Went on to do quite well when he left (I think). Me: 5'7". Never got a fair chance to impress.
  20. He did indeed, though I was never there...
  21. Great to know that TTA will survive and prosper. I'm still traumatised by the impending loss of this forum. (As I was with OLAS and then ptfc.net. Not quite so much for Driftwood, lol!)
  22. What a shame there's no video of that match. JG was so unbelievably good that day. I'm pretty sure I posted a fine photo of him skinning one or two Celtic players in the LCF, but I don't recall seeing a picture of him in action against the other erse cheek at Firhill. I remember chatting to the wee man at Firhill on some social occasion 20 or so years ago. He appeared genuinely humble, and even surprised at being recognised and so fondly remembered.
  23. I wrote a post a few years ago about the average size of the 1921 Cup-winning team: it was only around 5'8", if I remember correctly. I guess that in the last century the average height of folk has increased by a couple of inches. Apparently one of the biggest spurts in height was in post-war Netherlands, where the average height is now one of the tallest in Europe.
