Rid Skwerr
Today, 16th September, is the day of celebration of Mexico's independence from the rule of Spain. If things go right on Thursday..... we may have our own celebration in September. Whatever side of the argument you support - Please vote on Thursday. ScottyDFA
What a bunch we Scots are, eh! We get all worked up singing "Flower of Scotland", which includes the words "when will we see your like again, that fought and diedfor your wee bit hill and glen..." Then, when we are presented with the opportunity to win self-determination without firing a shot, half of us are shitting ourselves.
kni
^ Cutting pasting that nonsense to every thread? Self-determination when rUK will control the Pound and interest rates? Self-determination as a future EU Member, with a requirement to join the Euro zone? Self determination with 28 other countries deciding our laws, controlling our borders and giving our fishing waters to other countries? Totally deluded or just lying? ScottyDFA
So you should campaign for non-membership of the EU from within an independent country. You talk like you're a big fan of peoples being self-determining, but want your own country to remain under control of Westminster and its austerity programme and NHS privatisation... Don't get you mate, sorry. . Edited September 17, 2014 by ScottyDFA

You talk like you're a big fan of peoples being self-determining, but want your own country to remain under control of Westminster and its austerity programme and NHS privatisation... Don't get you mate, sorry. . After independence, which party would campaign against Scotland the EU? Certainly not the SNP, Labour or the Lib Dems. The Conservatives might but Cameron, contrary to the media's propaganda, is a committed Europhile. A Yes campaign or SNP commitment to a Scottish referendum on EU membership would help to convince me. Btw, the NHS is already devolved to Scotland (and Wales too). NHS Scotland is funded and controlled by the Health Directorate of the Scottish Government. So who is going to privatise it - the SNP or Scottish Labour? KAWB
As much as I woud like a Yes vote, I fear the worst. And am gonna be sick of telling people that they should have voted Yes for the rest of my life when the Tories go back on their promises following the referndum and shaft the Scots again. kni
^ Scotty, the Free Trade Agreement, the alleged vehicle for NHS privatisation, is being negotiated between the EU and the US. If an independent Scotland joins the EU, as promised by the SNP and Yes Campaign, it would be bound by that agreement and the EU's FTAs with other countries. There are other EU laws and regulations which determine the quality of healthcare in Member States. Self-determination is incompatible with EU Membership. ScottyDFA
The Westminster government refused to heed appeals for the NHS to be exempted from the agreement. Do you think the Scottish government would have done the same? So, if you would rather we had even greater self-determination by not being in the EU, why not involve yourself in a campaign for iScotland not to join/remain in the EU? Your voice is more likely to be heard in a Scotland that has become politically energised by this referendum process, than in a UK which is becoming more disenchanted by, and disinterested in, politics. Just a thought. Edited September 17, 2014 by ScottyDFA

Your voice is more likely to be heard in a Scotland that has become politically energised by this referendum process, than in a UK which is becoming more disenchanted by, and disinterested in, politics. Just a thought. Cameron, whom I dislike intensely, is at least promising a UK referendum on EU membership so I could join the Out campaign. Neither the SNP nor Labour, who are committed to EU membership, are promising a referendum so its very unlikely that Scotland would get one. I am an advocate of Swiss-style democracy - no membership of trans-national bodies, regional devolution and referenda on key issues. There is no party which is serious on any of those issues so I have not voted for anyone in the last 8 years.
