Harrybriscoe
Had a look at the Blyth Spartans website to see how they got on in their next game after playing us. Noticed they had a game coming up against Norton & Stockton Ancients. Anybody know of any more odd team names in the uk?

Jaggernaut
I still smile when thinking of a young lad at Firhill who, on learning that our next pre-season friendly was against Gala Fairydean, asked his father which country they came from. Jagsfan58
Glenbuck Cherrypickers, now defunct. Nice tribute from Liverpool fans to Shanks... Inverness Clachnacuddin for teams still in existence.
sigesige00
In the Shetlands, there are "Celtic FC" and "Spurs FC".
Rid Skwerr
Forres Mechanics Burntisland Shipyard Stonehouse Violet Leigh RMI (Railway Mechanics Institute) (apparently went bust in 20111) Seems like the lower/local leagues have all the good names. Guy Incognito
Gainsborough Trinity. Actually, thinking about it, Sheffield Wednesday is pretty unusual name. What does the 'Wednesday' part actually refer to? Ditto Leyton Orient.
Guy Incognito
Some Welsh teams have quite odd names, like (the obviously sponsored) Total Network Solutions FC (are they still going?); or The New Saints (which sounds more like the name of a band). I think that Total Network Solutions became The New Saints. They met Liverpool in the Champions League 1st qualifying round after the season in which Liverpool won Europe but finished 5th in England. taffthejag
Sheffield Wednesday used to play on Wednesdays. What about Billingham Synthonia?

taffthejag
We also have a Lex XI, and an Airbus UK. TNS=Total Network Solutions=the New Saints. They play in green and white hoops. Another reason to dislike them.

taffthejag
My favourite name is Whyteleaf - a team from the London 'burbs
twinny
Gainsborough Trinity. Actually, thinking about it, Sheffield Wednesday is pretty unusual name. What does the 'Wednesday' part actually refer to? Ditto Leyton Orient. I was thinking Gainsborough Trinity myself. I saw them against the now Defunct Ilkeston Town last year. I find Airbus UK quite an odd name, but they're obviously a works team too.

Guy Incognito
Sheffield Wednesday used to play on Wednesdays. What about Billingham Synthonia? Cheers for that, I was genuinely curious. I remember after the USA '94 World Cup John Harkes, the American player, signed for Sheffield Wednesday. Apparently it was reported in one 'paper over there as: "Harkes signs for Sheffield, Wednesday". Billingham Synthonia is a good one. That almost sounds like a Muse song. What does the 'Wednesday' part actually refer to? Ditto Leyton Orient. Sheffield Wednsday played on wednesday afternoons, which was the traditional half day working in the city , Leyton Orient were founded by staff from the oriental shipping company , another works team ,a popular thing in London , e.g. West Ham , Arsenal. thechangingman
Sheffield Wednesday used to play on Wednesdays. What about Billingham Synthonia? Googled synthonia , means synthetics and amonia , made by I.C.I which had a plant in Billingham .
