I was suggested here that Thistle *might* be a takeover target for any group looking to re-float a Rangers team in the Scottish leagues. St Mirren might be a better target, an SPL club.

Or Hearts, aren't they up for sale? Or Clyde, some work to do with them but the last time I checked they were ******. Soon to go homeless with nae cash. I don't think it will (or at least I hope it won't) come to Rangers minded businessmen buying other clubs to sneak back in this way, but if they go I imagine many other clubs would have their debts looked at seriously by their creditors, and could be available.

Too much baggage at Hearts. Clyde is an SFL club. Another Rangers monster could be spirited into St Mirren's SPL slot and I doubt anyone but St Mirren fans would raise a cheep.

The doers of that little deed need have no connection with the toxic waste barge on the south side of the river, just a desire to keep the Rangers name alive and milk a few bob from the cattle that follow it.

The next few weeks will be very interesting. It looks as if there is serious interest in Jelavic and, possibly, McGregor. Rangers could get reasonable fees - up to £10m or so combined- for both of them and other players. That would pay off a large amount of what is owed to Whyte's company for settling the bank debt.

The big question is whether RFC still own Ibrox and Murray Park. Whyte could have transferred those valuable assets into a another of his companies. Rangers could be leasing them for a peppercorn rent - provided his other company retained control of RFC. If RFC was sold or transferred to new owners, a higher rent (reflecting the value of the assets) could/would have to be negotiated.

Now let's assume that RFC loses the court case and are put into administration like several clubs who owed huge sums to HMRC, e.g. Portsmouth. The points deduction would probably be 9 to 12 points. It is doubtful that the authorities would have the guts to impose a higher penalty. Whyte would blame the previous owners and directors.

So what happens then? The administrators would have find a new buyer or liquidate the club. The latter would be very "brave" - would you want the Ibrox "faithful" to have your address and phone number? It would be a political nuclear bomb for the SNP government.

A new buyer would have to negotiate with Whyte to rent or buy Ibrox and Murray Park. The Hampden option would not be available due to the Commonwealth Games refit and Celtic would not offer a ground share. The most likely option is that Whyte would be the only buyer who could deliver a ground and training facilities of the necessary standard. Rangers would be able to start again debt free.

Let's consider the nuclear option of liquidation. Whyte would need to find a SPL or First Division club with owners that would be willing to sell to him for a top dollar (possibly premium) exit price. Such a club would have owners who are no longer involved in its day-today management. They may even be involved with another club. Does that sound familiar? Be careful what you wish for.

All very interesting. Just a thought, but could they buy over an English club, thus opening up a means of gaining entry to the EPl, or are there rules to prevent such an outcome? I remember there was talk of Wimbledon relocating to Dublin a while ago.

Don't forget though, Whyte is a prefered creditor to the tune of £18m and I think (don't really know for sure and aint too fussed to find out) the bank are still owed about £10m. So the first £28m is accounted for in the event assets are sold. That would leave HMRC getting a paltry proportion of what's owed to them (a' la Dundee). In theory, could Whyte use the £18m he's owed to resume control of Rangers (or FC Rangers or whatever)?
