Football Rules

Football goal and pitch size:

Goal -- 8m*2.5m

Goal line -- 68m

Touch line -- 105m

Penalty Area -- 40m*16m

Goal Area -- abolition

Penalty Spot -- 12m from the Goal line

Centre Circle, Penalty Arc -- 10m radius

Corner Arc -- 1m and 10m radius

Like Rugby, a ball on the goal line and touch line is out-of-play. Therefore, when the ball hit the goal, the ball is dead and corner-lick or goal-lick is taken.

Oo-err.

Your post is silly, but I feel I have to answer. The

The reason I am suggesting 8m*2.5m goal instead of 7.32m*2.44m is:

The "7.32m*2.44m" is clearly result of yard system, and sports should go metric,

And a 8m*2.5m goal will mean larger number of goals, thereby reducing the number of draws.

"why do football games last 90 minutes and not 80 minutes?"

You clearly did not understand what I had written. I suggested the change from running-time/additional-time system to playing-time system. I think that no rational person support the running-time/additional-time system. I cannot understand why there is at least one person who cannot understand the absurd nature of the running-time/additional-time system.

Do you hate Futsal? The rules of Futsal is far superior to those of 11-player football, because Futsal rules were created much later than 11-player football. So what's wrong about introducing Futsal's rules (such as sin-bin, kick-in, unlimited substitution, playing-time, etc) to 11-player football?

With all due respect (and I mean that most sincerely) your reply is silly but I feel I have to answer. Why do you feel the metric system is superior to the Imperial system? If you take your tinkering with the rules to its logical conclusion eventually you'll get someone similar to your good self coming on a forum asking why we can't make these silly 8m x 2.5m dimensions 10m x 4 m...we'd have fewer draws after all. And hey while we're at it let's get rid of those pesky goalkeepers.

Additional time (etc) system? To be replaced by sigesige's sin bins, rolling unlimited substitutions yadda yadda...? It seems there is little you find acceptable in the rules of football as they stand: from the dimensions of the pitch to the size of the goals; from the playing time to the use of indirect free kicks. So my dear silly friend, my silly question is this..... Why continue to watch a sport you find silly or stupid or in need of a massive overhaul? Why not stick to futsal? You may think all your suggestions are sound. But in reality all your suggestions are frankly mad and will change football into something unrecognisable. You are not the first to have suggested mad rule changes. In 1994 when the Yanks were hosting the World Cup there was some talk about abolishing the offside rule and playing four quarters instead of two halfs. The guffaws of derision that followed from lovers of the game made the stick you take on here look tame in comparison.

So... silly as it may seem, I am quite sure I'm not alone in wishing the rules of football to remain as they are. The occasional "tweak" may be called for as the game evolves... like the pass-back to the gk rule that disallows the gk from handling a pass-back. Anything on the scale you seem to be advocating would simply turn football into your beloved (and more palatable to you) futsal.

I have nothing against futsal.

I have nothing against cats..... but I'm not going to perform surgery on my dog to turn it into a cat.

I have nothing against motorbikes.... but I'm not going to set about my car with a chainsaw and some gaffer tape to turn it into a Kawasaki.

So see all this stuff about sin bins, goal sizes, running times etc? Gonnae no dae that?

It seems that you did not understand what I had said, again.

I suggest the change from the running-time/additional-time system to the playing-time system, OK? Do you understand?

There are 100 reasons to do so, but there is absolutely no reason to keep the the running-time/additional-time system.

As I have said, under the present rules, the actual playing time differs in different countries. Do you think that sound?

And additional-time is crazy. Rugby abolished it because it was too crazy. I have never heard a rationale for the additional-time system.

As for the offside rule, the Americans are not only ones who consider it unnecessary. For example, a very famous figures like Rui Costa and van Basten are for the abolition of the offside rule.

I am too tired of reading your silly writings.

Futsal and 11-Player Football are both under the FIFA control. While the pitch size and player numbers are different, these are fundamentally same sport in the point that players score goals by using legs.

here's a bit of alliteration for you - Futsal's for phannies so feck orf ffs !

no chance boyo - just bought myself a new dream machine - smells excellent! - tyres at 55psi and I flew down clarkston road before it rained tonight (overtaking the 4 wheeled phannies doing 30mph!) - even stopped at the lights in cathcart but only to test out the brakes once! ;)

I strongly encourage everyone to watch Futsal games. You will immediately understand how absurd the running-time/additional-time system is.

I strongly encourage you tae go oot and get yer hole (aff a burd over 18 preferably). Wance you've done that, try huvvin a proper swally and then just mibbees you'll wake up and understaun how absurd aw this pish ye come oot wi actually is.

Please explain. Why changing the present running-time/additional-time system to the playing system a "pish"? I do not tolerate offensive remarks without foundation.

I explain why the running-time/additional-time system must be done away.

In order to have a fair competition, the playing-time must be same. If we have a 62mins game between Dunfermline and Falkirk, while we have a 55mins game between Partick and Raith, it is impossible to say that the league is fair.

For that reason, Futsal has abolished the running-time/additional-time system and adopt the playing-time system. I believe that everyone can easily understand this logic.

pitch and goal sizes. -- What's wrong about my opinion?

goalkeeper jersey colours -- What's wrong about my opinion? As we have seen, both GKs were red in the Italy-Germany game in the latest Euro. Don't you think that a problem?

your alleged masssseeeve porn sports taps collection. -- That's simply my hobby. What's wrong? My friend has jerseys of all members of FIFA.

too many players in football -- What do you mean? I suggested the increase of subs number from 5 to 7 in the SFL. Is that stupid? Or 23-players squad? It is the World Cup rule, so do you think that World Cup is insane?

futsal is better -- Yes, since Futsal rules were made decades after those of the 11-player football, Futsal rules are better.

grass depth -- What's wrong about my opinion to decide the grass depth by the agreement of Football, RU and RL?

abolition of the euros -- What's wrong about that? What I want to abolish is not only Euros, but also all continental competitions. Instead continental competitions, let's have more World Cups. What's wrong?

your going to church or the sally army pretending to be homeless to get a free lunch -- That was a kind of joke, I did that only once. But isn't it funny? They say "please eat until you die".

your begging others to buy sports taps for you because you claim firms won't ship to you or reply to your mails--I do not understand what you mean.

your 117 bank, building society and credit union accounts in uk japan korea and china -- What's wrong with that?

abolition of draws and offsides--What's wrong with that? Draws have been abolished in ice hockey (NHL) and famous figure like Rui Costa is for the abolition of the offside rule.

when ball hits woodwork ball is dead -- What's wrong with that?

I explain why I think that when ball is rebounded by posts/bar ball should be dead.

The football goal posts/bar is not like Baseball's outfield fence. Baseball's outfield fence is designed to rebound the ball.

However, football's goal is different. Football's goal posts/bar exists simply to divide inside and outside of goal. Therefore, continuing play after ball being rebounded by goalposts/bar is wrong in my opinion.

Just enlarge the goal to 8m*2.5m, and make rebounded balls dead. I think that this is very logical.

Another necessary rule is 10mins sinbin. When a player receives a yellow card, s/he should be sent to sinbin for 10 minutes.

2nd yellow card means dismissal. However, another player can join the game after 10 minutes.

In the case of straight red card, another player cannot join the game until the end.

I think sigesige00 is missing an opportunity. He obviously feels strongly about his well considered opinions, but his chosen medium for expressing them (these boards) restricts their exposure to the Thistle fans that use them.

I believe he would be better served by starting a blog on one of the numerous sites that allow you to do so. I'm sure he would easily fit into the broad spectrum that Blogging provides from Leggoland to rangerstaxcase.

We could help by providing him links to sites that host such blogs such as wordpress.

I actually like this idea, however I don't understand the part in bold. Why would a replacement player join the game once it is over?
