jags on tour
By the way, why do the English-language media use the spelling "Dynamo Kiev"? Since the official name is "ФК «Динамо» Київ", it must be "Dinamo Kyiv". "Dynamo" sounds very German -- Dynamo Dresden, Berliner FC Dynamo, etc. i had chicken kyiv for my dinner last night but was not happy with the ratio of chicken to garlic butter sauce inside, I am going to write to the dinamo kyiv manager and complain. sigesige00
Barcelona 3-2 Спартак Москва (Spartak Moskva) Celtic 0-0 Benfica Spartak missed a golden chance. A draw at Barcelona would have boosted their chances of last 16. Celtic failed to win at home. Celtic now have to beat Benfica away, and need at least 4 points from Spartak, and at least 1 point from Barcelona.
sigesige00
but you're happy to line their pockets by going to see the wee teams a dozen times this season - you are a total walloper sig As for Ulster Unionism, this is a response by Peter Taaffe, secretary-general of the Socialist Party of England and Wales. Waka
Not just English. The Germans use Dynamo Kiew (and you'll no doubt know that the "w" is pronounced the same as the English "v"), but they do use Dinamo Zagreb. Why it is so, I do not know. Because Kiew is in the Ukraine, Zagreb is in Croatia. Different countries, different languages. Anyway, I'm surprised that Borisov (Борисов, or if you prefer belarusian: Барысаў) won at Lille on Wednesday. Now they are top of their group, since Bayern only won 2:1 against Valencia. Diego
By the way, I am strongly against the spellling "Shakhtar" (Шахтар). The Latin spelling must be "Šahtar". I am against the English way of spelling foreign words. For example, Russian name "Бухарин" is spelled "Bukharin" in English. However, there is no need for "k", since there is no phonemic distinction between "h" and "kh" in Russian. "Бухарин" should be "Buharin". But in Ukranian there is a difference between г "h" and "х" kh. Your system would cause confusion.
Norman
Can any of the linguistic genii on here finally set my mind at rest as to whether Switzerland or Swaziland is correct? Norman
Both are correct - it just depends on whether you are in the German or Italian-speaking Cantons of Swaziland. Thanks RS. That would probably also explain why I've heard talk of both Geneva and Genoa. I guess it's just the same distinction?

sigesige00
Barcelona 2-1 Celtic The game was overwhelmingly dominated by Barcelona. Scores like 5-1 were possible. Now Celtic have to beat Spartak at home and Benfica away. By the way, deciding the game by the number of corners would make sense. Corners in today's game -- Barcelona 15 and Celtic 1. Diego
15 corners and they only scored two goals? That's sh**e. Cowden had fourteen against us in the Challenge Cup and didn't score at all! Just as well Craig scored, otherwise Sige would have us going out.
sigesige00
15 corners and they only scored two goals? That's sh**e. Barcelona did not kick long-corner in the 1st half at all. All were short-corners. Short-corners were not very effective because of Celtic's defense in the centre area.
Waka
15 corners and they only scored two goals? That's sh**e. IIRC, Bayern had 20+ corners in the CL final last year, and they didn't score once... (Chelsea on the other hand, scored from their first and only corner...) I would have loved very hard, if Celtic had actually won or drawn this game, but it seems to be an unwritten rule, that a ref has to give Barca just as long as they need to win the game in extra time.
