thebiglemon
Every football fan should read this. Tim Parks lives in Italy and goes to Verona (the most racist fans in Italy) home games. One (momentous season as it turns out) he decides to go to every away game that season by a variety of means (the best being the overnight supporters bus to the very south of Italy). He's a great writer with a good sense of humour and it turns into an exciting read too. Shouldn't be on main forum but no one would see this otherwise. And now thatVerona are back in the top division, it's worth re-reading it.
eljaggo
A really good book - great ending with the relegation "battle" with the team (+ directors + polis) from the south (forget their name). A must read.

JeredStirlingsrightfoot
I work with a guy who supports Verona, they played Roma at the weekend and the Roma fans, having won 3 nil, attacked the Verona team bus. The delights of Italian football. I'll look out for Tim Parks work from now on...
mrD
If you liked that then Joe Mcguinness The Miracle of Castel Di Sangro is just as good a real insight to Italian Football aye its a belter that book. hilarious that the writer like a couple of years earlier gets into soccer through the world cup in the USA with no prior knowledge, and in the book details him taking the manager to task about tactics what team he should pick etc hilarious... all the other wider cultural stuff very interesting too.. season in verona is a craking read too, what division are chievo in now? The Earl of Hathaway
Two great books - I think the Tim Parks one might just shade it for me, but both of them are the kind of books that you end up sitting there at half one in the morning going 'just one more chapter' when you've got to start work at 8 a.m.!
