Doubt it; I'm assuming we were scouting him when he was on loan from Yeovil in case he became available. He then signed for Coventry so we signed Mair as a stop-gap but kept an aye on him (along with other players, I'm sure) and when he potentially became available over the summer we stepped in. Another good example of Archie's signing policy.

It's a good problem to have but, based on last season, I'd start with Gallacher.

I don't think he'll play left-back; however he gives us cover there if needed and we've not had a natural left-sided centre back since Archie retired so it should give us better balance.

I noticed that too Arch - a fair comment, fully justified and I'm sure aimed squarely at the content of this forum over the last few weeks.

Seems to have been at a number of decent clubs, spending most of his recent career in League One. Sounds decent.

I think that's a really good (and overlooked) point.

First, I've never used the phrase 'pant wetters'. Second, those that have concerns about the quality and depth throughout the squad, as is, can count me among their number. However those that claim every other squad has strengthened due to their signing unknown / aged players (most of which I wouldn't be excited to see at Firhill) and that we were weaker than them all through finishing 10th (despite how close the bottom six teams were last season) and that we're therefore favourites to finish in the bottom two - they need to get a grip.

Not good enough. Archie should sack off taking his time trying to sign a good player currently with another club (we saw how badly that worked out with Higgy) and instead focus on getting a few random players signed up so that fans who've never seen any of them play before can confidently presume that they've made our squad stronger...

Honestly, **** sake Trotter. Add this to your list: Thistle have brought in Osman and Stevenson, two excellent signings, and their talented young team will have improved from having had a season in the top flight. Would be surprised if they didn't bring in another couple of players before the season starts. Their talented young manager will have improved from last years experience too. Having just missed out on 7th last season they'll be looking to push for a top 6 spot and will finish comfortably above the relegation playoff position. That's no more conjecture than any of the points you've made about our rivals...

The comparison with Liam Buchanan is a good one; however Liam's game was based on pace (albeit only over a few years, but enough to make room for himself) which he lost a bit of due to his injury. The same can't be said for Welsh. I hope he comes back, soon, stronger than ever.

Do you know how much this raised last season? Also, is it only me that has a problem finding someone to buy them from within the North Stand area around 10 minutes before kick off? Is there a particular location that the seller stands at that I'm not aware of? If not, should there be? This goes for programmes too. I appreciate it's volunteers by the way, and if there's not always someone there then fair enough - but lack of visibility (with the blame either on me or the seller) has led to me not buying either for a fair wee while.

Hmm, wonder if Colina is still injured - I think I recall reading that he was injured for the training camp to Spain? I think we all had high hopes for him when he signed, shame he doesn't appear to have been able to kick on and push for a place in the first team. From reports here he's not even one of the best players in the U20's (although, from same reports, he's not bad - just not as good as others) Big season for him I'd imagine...

I'm sure Archie could go and sign a few players if he wanted - such as Barr and Mustoe. But what if he wants better than Barr and Mustoe? What if he feels that he'd prefer to play Lindsay and Keenan than sign Barr and Mustoe, if he can't get better players in? I'd much rather see us hold out to sign players that would actually improve the squad rather than sign dross. And I'd rather see us give our youngsters a chance than sign dross. Yet it appears most people on here would rather we signed dross just so we had made a few signings. Mental.
