  1. Watching the JagZone highlights, credit due to Jamie Sneddon for a great save in the second half, with a little help from the post. Also realised how good was Harry Milne's header for the first goal. He was stretching off balance to get to the ball and it was amazing that he managed to generate so much power. Goals that crash into the back of the net via underside of the bar are always a little bit special.
  2. Agree that the last 20 minutes were a tense and nervy watch. Whether by misplaced passes or aimless punts, we conceded possession too easily and too often. However, on the credit side we won a lot more of the 50/50 loose balls than we did against Raith. There were a lot of excellent tackles and blocks. The team played with much more spirit and were given superb backing by the fans. Every throw in, bye kick, free kick or regaining of possession was cheered as heartily as a goal.
  3. In days gone by I can remember St Johnstone and Ross County being very effective in managing 1-0 leads against us. Once they scored it was like game over. I cannot say that they sat back on leads but they just killed the game so that nothing interesting happened and Thistle could never build up any head of steam or get the fans excited and engaged. This was combined with extreme time wasting, going down with injuries, collapsing whenever touched and retaining the ball at the corner flag for minutes at a time. These are all things Thistle have never been any good at, so I think it is always better for us to play constructively just as if we were not winning.
  4. From what I hear, we were well in the game at 0-8 down. The 9th goal scored against the run of play rather dented our momentum.
  5. At least it gives you a valid excuse to come back for the Arbroath game. Got a couple of calendars signed before the Junior Jags party and was able to thank James Lyon for allowing me to use his squad number 27 to win the forum sponsorship draw for Stevie Lawless’ match worn shirt!
  6. Yes! PS Good to see you at Kirkcaldy on Friday!
  7. We already have a healthy 8 point clearance above Airdrie in 5th. The most likely challenge to a play off place may be from Inverness who seem to have built up some momentum. Back to the game in Kirkcaldy, having watched replay no idea why referee gave the free kick which led to the last goal. I have a huge dislike for players of any team slowing down their opponents taking a free kick. However, if you are going to try and do it, you have to succeed. Rather than a halfhearted attempted flick at the ball, Neilson had to drop off rapidly and immediately. Credit to Raith for taking advantage so smartly. I spent much of the first half encouraging Sneddon to speed up his distribution. Immediately the second half began his unnecessarily hurried stab at the ball led to the concession of the second goal. Had he been given instructions at halftime to move a little faster, but found that difficult to implement?
  8. Terrible start to second half. Came back into it through the fortunate own goal and then played really well from being 2-1 down to 3-2 up. Fitzy began running at the defence and they had no answer to him. Real spirit and drive, but then when we had the initiative we unaccountably sat back and invited Raith to take over the game, which they happily did to good effect. Tremendous away support tonight which really lifted the team back into the game. The main positive to take is that the team did not give up at 2-0 down and playing poorly, but somehow clawed their way back. The third goal was excellent. Diack looked much more of a threat than Adeloye.
  9. Strange mixture from Sneddon. Goal seemed to bounce over him, but he has made some very smart saves. We have not worked out how to play out from the back. Desperately slow three passes followed by aimless punt. I have praised Aero a lot recently but he is far off it tonight. Fitzy also a shadow of his normal self, particularly badly affected by the pitch. Hopefully he can find a way of improving in the second half.
  10. I thought the same about Jamie’s top.
  11. Not blaming the pitch but our players seem to be having more difficulty getting to grips with it than usual. Lots of heavy first touches and misjudging height of bounce. Seems to be a very slidey surface and hitting a pass hard enough but not too hard appears to be beyond us. Is this a different sort of Astro from what we normally train on?
  12. JJ will be with you in that as he is in favour of Enterprise!
  13. Doffs cap. All respect to you. 8 is some achievement! 👏 🥳
  14. I wonder if Jonny Blom was our tallest ever player? My sixth was the Sam Morrow scrambled effort, which I think was vital to securing our second tier status. Dick Campbell had just been sacked and we were seeing out the season under the temporary care of Jimmy Bone and Terry Butcher.
  15. Barney and AJ. Thank you for your contributions which I enjoyed, but I had used up my "likes" allocation! PS My AJ like has appeared. Perhaps it was only then that I was told that I had no more!
  16. How good was Jimmy McColl’s goal against Albion Rovers in 1921?
  17. McStravick (?), the Number 12, was impressive for Airdrie. Ben Stanway seemed to have 2 reasonable penalty shouts.
  18. I personally witnessed a majority (6 out of 11) of the above. Can anyone beat that? Arriving at the game late and missing the goal does not count!
  19. This is total over-simplification and generalisation to endeavour to make a straightforward point. "Begging bowl" is a rather pejorative expression for soliciting cash from those who believe in what you are doing, but I will let it be for the moment: 1) At one end of the spectrum are "pure" commercial trading companies. Their directors have to ensure, if need be by their own cash injections, that there is sufficient capital in place and sufficient regular commercial trading income to allow the company to continue to trade at least at break even (and hopefully rather better than that). No begging bowl allowed. 2) At the other end of the spectrum are "pure" non-trading charities. They do not generate any commercial trading income and their continued (and hopefully enhanced) operation relies on donation income from supporters who recognise the valuable work of the charity and voluntarily choose to contribute to this. Begging bowl is the only way. 3) Between these two "ends" there is a vast range of entities who to a greater or lesser extent share some of the characteristics of both of the above. Partick Thistle Football Club are one such entity. Appropriate, but not excessive, use of begging bowl is permissible.
  20. A few random comments: Great to see us scoring with a header from a corner, something we have not done much since Kyle Turner’s early days with us. Brilliant delivery from Fitzy, and well done Rico for getting his head on it and directing it so well. Excellent interview on JagZone with Ben Stanway. Love his attitude and his humour. You can of course pick holes in some of Wasiri Williams’ play, but there is lots of good stuff in there too. It was his dominant header that set Fitzy away for the run and cross that produced the second goal. He is a real “Thistle” character and it may be that we just have to learn to live with his flawed genius!
  21. Diack has I think had approx 3 short sub appearances.
  22. The deft touch bringing the ball down from mid-air and the way he runs so close to defenders but they never know which way he is going to go. Delightful passes and crosses, not to mention the power and accuracy of his shooting (and he can take penalties as well). I presume that the length of contract is designed to qualify him for a testimonial year.
  23. Relying on the bonus points from Buckie Thistle to propel me up the table. AAAA AHHH HAAA AHHH Thanks BB. Good to meet you again on Saturday.
  24. is longcake the opposite of shortbread? Brilliant highlights and some great goals. Who is Garnacho anyway?
