  1. Cup game. Every single time, regardless of the circumstances. Ideally we'd win both, but still.
  2. Our record against the Old Firm is indeed shambolic, but I'm pretty sure Hamilton's cup record is the worst for any full time team in Scotland. IIRC, they've not been in a Scottish cup semi final or further (which I'd use as the barometer of a good cup run) this side of world war 2..
  3. I think a couple of draws with first division sides (Cove v us, Turriff v Morton off the top of my head) is as well as the non-leagues have done, other than Bonnyrigg beating Dumbarton this season. That doesn't mean we can take this easy though. There seems to have been a fair bit of investment at a few clubs at the top end of the highland league and they have some decent players. Added to that they have nothing at all to lose, if we put 6 past them that's hardly going to be embarassig for them so all the pressure is on us. Talk of playing half a development team is ridiculous.
  4. Our centre back pairing both times he scored was Muirhead and Gabriel Piccolo... Goes some way towards explaining it.
  5. It's probably more that there's no premiership games on, the media know absolutely nothing about lower league football so can't report on that and, even for the Scottish media, there's only a finite amount of times you can write about how much of a dreamboat you think mark warburton is. Andy little was touting himself for a move to some championship clubs, and Freddie is a popular ex player... in terms of an article where you don't actually have to try very hard to say anything both of those are gold mines. That they both saw fit to praise Archie is testament to his managerial skills. Sooner or later, English clubs will take notice (indeed, one already did) but I'm pretty sure he's said he has unfinished business here, and I don't think he wants to go just yet.
  6. Agreed. He has his faults but he's been very good the last few times I've seen him.
  7. Playing against an opponent like McDonald, who has played at a very high level, will be great for Lindsay as he will learn how to deal with someone like that. To suggest he isn't already a good player for thistle is hysterical nonsense.
  8. Danny Wilson is absolutely rancid.
  9. I'd rather someone who can continue to build upon the foundations that McCall, McNamara and Archibald are laying and really, really establish Thistle as a top flight club, and one who can realistically challenge for trophies and European competition every season, a la St Johnstone. I'd ask if either Killie or Caley were in a better position when they left than when they arrived, as opposed to looking at one off successes.
  10. Wouldn't take Pressley to be honest. He got Falkirk relegated and then kept them down, had one good season at Coventry despite difficult circumstances which is fair enough and then guided a team who'd come 10th the season previous to 19th. And he's a permanently furious simpleton. I have a bit of confidence in the board getting it right tbh. The last couple of appointments have all done reasonably well in different ways. Even Campbell (only just) managed to do what was necessary and get promoted back to the first division. Can see it being another young manager, hopefully won't be one of the managers who drift around doing basically alright but nothing really like Kenny Shiels or John Hughes.
  11. He'll shamelessly claim 0-0 as a positive result and hang on to guide York to about 17th
  12. That's football these days, the fans who actually want to go along are secondary to Sky/BT sports needing some filler content.
  13. I'd rather the players did something to try and create an actual chance rather than punt it towards the goal when they've got absolutely no chance of scoring tbh.
  14. Think it used to be different, but I'm sure it changed maybe a year or 2 ago in England to match our total ban.
  15. He wasn't. Although he did make a good run to open the space up for the guy who scored it.
  16. Missing this as I'm away to Berlin. Presumably the same team as last week, although I'd guess Azeez drops to the bench and Edwards moves further forward to allow Barton to slot into midfield. Played well against Hearts, be a bit more clinical and keep that up and we'll win.
  17. Good. Playing on a Sunday or Monday night is shite. Friday night can be alright.
  18. In a position where Scotland have players like Snodgrass, Burke, Ritchie, Anya, Naismith and guys like Matt Philips and Shaun Maloney not even making the squad, there'd have been justified uproar if Strachan had picked a 29 year old Erskine, regardless of how he's been playing for us. If he was 18 then maybe, but picking form players has a limit.
  19. Because he's absolutely nowhere near good enough. He's a great player for Thistle, but he'd be miles out his depth playing international football.
  20. In the context of English football, they're complete no marks.
  21. Comparisons with England are absolutely pointless and ridiculous. English football contains 2 of the 5 leagues in Europe which spend the most on transfer fees. I mean, absolute nobodies like Crystal Palace can spend £27 million on one player. Adam Barton had featured in 5 matches for Portsmouth this season already, which suggests that he was very much a first team player there as well. And in any case, Lucas Akins (remember him?) holds down a regular place in the English championship, so comparisons can be made which show either in whatever light you want.
  22. Under 21's is pointless anyway. Most of them will never play for the senior team. Gauld, Henderson, Kingsley and maybe Ryan Fraser will get/have caps but guys like Love, Slater, McGhee etc will never make it. I'd say our national team will be largely on a par with what we currently have in years to come. The future "stars" of the Scotland team will either already be in the team such as Burke and McGinn, or may be still too young for the under 21's. Plus we'll have the usual array or English born youngsters who haven't yet given up on making it with them.
  23. The teams at the bottom get an absolute pittance anyway. It's a ludicrous argument made by people who know absolutely nothing about football. ETA: breakdown of how the prize money is distributed. http://stv.tv/sport/football/1331865-spfl-sides-to-share-record-21m-prize-money-payout-in-201516-season/
