  1. Time to look forward to Saturday's cup tie, and I for one am pretty confident we can win this. It will be interesting to see if German and Nesbitt (not sure if they are eligible) are included in the squad and if so who gets left out, add Dumbaya if he is fit and Lindsay to the mix then we have some decent options. If all those 3 are available we could start with a very strong team and have a few potential match winners on the bench. I was surprised at Utd's lack of transfer activity in the January window, they had a good result against Killie, however we are a different proposition. Let's hope we start well, the first goal against Utd in their current position tends to demoralise them. Going along to this one on the East Kilbride bus, have been to all of the games when they have run a bus from EK and its a great day out.
  2. This is more excellent news IMO CB has been superb this season and is a bigger asset than ATS was in his time here, particularly on the defensive side. Well done again board and management in getting another important cog in the Thistle wheel finalised
  3. Ian Mac is correct, in our first season up or even last season we would have lost that game, and the management team should take a lot of credit for changing how we play and being a bit less gung-ho at times, without being less attractive to watch. I don't think there is any need for another CB in the squad, Lindsay is available for Saturday and fortunately for us we do have Elliott and Miller who can adapt to a number of positions. Therefore we should be doing our best to get GM signed up for next season, we don't have the luxury of being able to have 2 players for every position and players like him who can fill in for several position are a necessity for teams like us.
  4. Huge result last night and I for one don't think Motherwell deserved anything, they came for a point and nearly got it. That game showed how important that defensively being strong can win games. The back 5 worked hard ably assisted by Abdul in front of them and prevented Well getting any clear cut chances. For me big Dan got my MoM, I know his distribution leaves a lot to be desired but his defending is superb. The defence also look like they are a real unit, I don't know if anyone else noticed at the final whistle the back 5 all in a group hug in front of the Northy. Archie has now got a good squad at his disposal and another 3 wins IMO, will see us safe from play off spot. Final comment, what a professional Gary Miller is, comes in gets left out, comes back in and does an absolutely outstanding job.
  5. I think we need to get real here guys. We have strengthened our squad in this window, whether they turn out to be good or bad we have added some numbers which is what we needed to do. If you look at some of the videos of AN he looks like a young exciting player who is a promising prospect and is someone who Archie enquired about at the start if this window, therefore he was clearly a target. AG is less of a known quantity as are most of the players signed by our rivals with the exception of Gomis and Gomis plays the Osman role so no need to sign him. Finally at some stages of the window in early January it appeared we would lose Bannigan and potentially Osman, we didn't, and that is a huge relief, ok we didn't get Erskine in however that would have been football suicide by Mixu and perfectly understandable. If u look at Utd, losing Soutar weakens them, so let's get that glass half full again and stop having a pop at players coming in who may turn out to be real assets for the run-up the season.
  6. Don't want to tempt fate, but it looks like Banzo and Lawless will still be here at the end of the window which is excellent. This coupled by the fact we are starting to get players back, gives me some positivity. If you look around the SPFL, no one as yet has seriously strengthened their squad in this window. Now just get Abdul signing over the line and we're sorted.
  7. Think we should give the guy a chance before people start making assumptions on how good or bad he is. I remember seeing Osman in a pre-season friendly at Dumbarton and he was rank and also didn't appear to have a good pedigree..... Let's wait and see but in the meantime let's get behind the guy
  8. Offere would be a decent signing and also Steven Dobbie who is at Bolton and doesn't seem to get a sniff of a game, think he would be a decent loan signing
  9. See Mixu in the press today saying that he wants to sign Lawless. Strange how certain clubs go about their business, putting stuff in the press to upset players, clubs Tec. Think we did everything in the proper manner 're Erskine and was only in the press after the deal was concluded, the cynic in me thinks Mixu is trying to upset our camp and particularly Lawless before Saturday, sad that they feel the need to do this to gain some sort of advantage. All the more reason to Fump the sad Puckers on Saturday
  10. This would be unbelievable good news, and another indication that Archie is fostering Firhill as a good place to play football. If Abdul signs this week it would be a huge boost ahead of Saturday's massive games.
  11. I think our management team are on year rolling contracts and to be honest when it comes to managers contracts, they are only useful in order to get compensation. The movement of managers is not restricted to the transfer windows, therefore there is always the chance Archie could move at any time in the season. I have no doubt what he is doing at Firhill will be on the radar of many Chairmen across the football leagues, and we just need to hope that should a team come in for him that the board fight hard to keep him and offer an improved deal. Archie and Shaggy are worth their weight in gold and are the foundation of great things to come at Firhill.
  12. Good point yesterday, although the game was dire and neither team made any decent chances, it was important to see the game out with a clean sheet.
  13. Let's be honest we were all delighted when we beat off other premiership rivals to sign him a couple of years ago, however it hasn't worked out for whatever reason and that's life. What we should recognise is Archie's ruthlessness in realising its time to move the player on. How often in the past have we seen managers continue to play players who are off form simply to try to justify buying them in the first instance. So well done Archie in acting swiftly to release Stevo. Good luck to RS wherever he ends up, even if it is to one of our rivals.
  14. Really chuffed at this news, Dools is potentially a future manager or at the very least coach. He epitomizes everything that is good about being a professional footballer and not withstanding his undeniable talent on the field of play, he is, just like Archie, a first class ambassador of our club. Looking forward to Dools, Erskine and hopefully Lawless rekindling their great understanding next season, if not before.
  15. I think if the roles were reversed and say Lawless had signed a PCA with Killie I think I would rather he went now, and I am sure Archie would send him on his way. This is different from when Erskine and Paton signed for Utd, we were in a different league and as such no conflict of interest, however Erskine is on a hiding to nothing in a no win situation which I am sure Mixu is aware of, and I would be very surprised if Erskine isn't with us after the game on 30th January having played no part in the game.
  16. There has been a huge over reaction to yesterday's result on here. We were awful and had one of those days when 9 out of the 11 starters were off from, this will happen at least a couple of times a season and yesterday coupled with Hearts games was a prime example of this. However there is no point in singling out individuals for abuse, they know themselves they were poor and I am sure will work hard to rectify that next week in what is a winnable game. We were down to the bare bones yesterday for a whole variety of reasons and it did show up our frailties regarding strength in depth but we need to realise that we are not the size of club who can have 2 players of equal quality for every position. We should cut the players/ management some slack for yesterday's performance and get behind them in the next few games and support them to go on another undefeated run.

    Mixu!

To be fair he had good reason think Utd denied 2 stone wall penalties
  18. Just listened to Archie's preview for tomorrow's game saying that Fraser only 50/50 for tomorrow, with that in mind my line up would be Cerny Dumbaya Seabourne Lindsay Booth Miller Welsh Bannigan Lawless Amoo Doolan Subs Scully, Frans, Pogba, Fraser (if he is fit enough) Wilson, Nisbet and McLaughlin Really light on the bench, however Archie saying he is not rushing in to sign someone just to make the bench stronger for tomorrow's game, which I totally agree with.
  19. Sounds like a great idea and will be much cheaper than the train, given that it's so close to the game now.
  20. Think it's great if guys want to have a laugh etc, therefore why don't you start a "banter have a wind up" thread, and those who are into that stuff can enjoy it and those of us who are keen to discuss the team etc, can avoid it.That way everyone's a winner
  21. There has been no activity of any significance by any club as yet in the transfer window. If you look at Dundee they have lost one of their better players in McPake, and have had to rush out to bring in O'Dea, who hasn't played for a while, because they are short of centre backs. I would rather we waited until we got the right player(s) in instead of rushing in or being forced to sign someone for the sake of it. I agree we are a bit thin on the ground however I don't believe Archie would have let McDaid go out on loan unless he knew reinforcements were imminent and let's face it Stevo, Edwards or Muirhead are not huge misses when you consider their combined contribution this season. So let's not panic at the lack of activity but rather be grateful we have a manager who is meticulous in his approach to signing players and always make sure they are guys who will fit in the dressing room.
  22. Guys can we get this thread back on track this nonsense is tedious.
  23. Some posters on Twitter mentioning Billy Mehmet as a potential signing. Mehmet confirmed he has a few options including St Mirren and will make an announcement in the next couple of days. To be honest I can't remember too much about him!!!
