The assistant ref at the 3.50 mark must have had rocks in his head. He should have either taken at least one step back to allow play to continue, or run backwards towards the goal line away from the players, NOT get in the way of a player on the run just so he could see the line. If he could not see the line from either position then he should not be getting these appointments. It's basic linesmanship. I'm not saying this from a Jags supporters perspective, but from a refereeing perspective. I would be more than interested to see his inspection report on that incident!!!

I like to read books in order, and have read all Peter Robinson's Inspector Banks. I noticed an author in the shop called Quentin Jardine. Has anyone read any of his stuff and would they recommend him. I might need to go round second hand bookshops to start from the beginning.

I'm watching the english football highlights just now, and to me Watford's strips look more like The Jags than the Jags do this season.

Please let me know if this has been covered before, but I can't seem to find the complete hall of fame on the official website. The only time this seems to appear on the official site is when there are new inductees, and the profiles are shown at that time in the latest news section. The club should be proud of it's hall of fame, and should have a section dedicated to it on the official site.

with the advances in artificial turf the give on the surface is sometimes superior to natural turf. I've refereed on artificial turf (don't know the name of it) and I was apprehensive beforehand, but really enjoyed it (and no player had friction burns). I agree that top leagues should re-examine and maybe allow it again.

When did this rule start? When I came over from Oz 6 years ago I asked the club if I could take photos at the games and they were happy to let me take them.

You're spot on with the reasons for the shirt and socks being different, and it's very helpful from a refereeing perspective. If shorts are the same it doesn't bother me, but it's the rules of competition that I believe that state that shorts have to be different from the first strip as well. Please correct me if I'm wrong with the Scottish rules of competition. However, the main point of this topic was that I think the red shorts and socks look far better with the new shirt than the black. To me, the black is a minor colour of the club, and red and yellow are the major colours. Someone who's not familiar with the club would probably think our colours are yellow and black.

The regulations where I referee is that a club must have a complete change for an away strip, i.e. short, shorts AND socks must be different. This way there will always be a complete contrast between teams, Apert from shirts, it's important that socks are different as well. I think this is also the case in the SFL and I was quite surpirised to see Thistle using the same shorts and socks.

I've just had a look at the photos of the youth team agaist Scotland, where they wore the new jersey with red shorts and socks. I think that looks a lot better than the black shorts and socks with the new shirt, and is far closer to the '71 cup winning team. No need to do away with the black though, as they can still be used with the new second strip.

This weekend the americans are putting on one of their disgusting child pagentsin Melbourne. I make no apoligy for my strong feelings on this, because (I'mm not a psychologist) I firmly believe that it promotes that superficiality is the most important thing in a girl's life. A child should be a child, and when a girl reaches teenage years, then they will start trying makeup etc properly AT THEIR OWN PACE. I have a daughter and a granddaughter and my daughter grew up getting mucky, playing netball, climbing trees, (as I believe my granddaughter will as well) became a normal teenage girl, and was absolutely stunning when she was a bride. She didn't need any pagent that could have shattered her self esteem if she was told she wasn't beautiful enough to win. (my son in law's comment when he saw her as I walked her down the aisle was "OH WOW, or was that for me in my kilt?) If you click on the readers comments on the link, most of the contributers have the same opinion as myself. Children have a hard enough time growing up, and I think this obscenity should stay in america. Have they started in the UK yet, and what does everyone else think of them. Children should not be sexualised as these pagents do. Let them be kids and grow up using their imagination and going out to play and getting covered in mud. They are not dolls for their parents warped gratification!!!

In the UK if you gift anything within 7 years of expiring that would be subject to inheritance tax, then it's still subject to that unfair tax. It was done away with in Oz years ago. I don't understand why the british government takes money from you when you die, which should rightfully belong to family members. Seems to take away the incentive to build up a decent nest egg.

We were sitting quite a bit further back and didn't see this other supporter. We noticed a Jags jersey at the other end in the north end victory fans area. I also spoke to a guy in the bar queue who was wearing last season's jersey (and yes, if you wanted to buy a beer to take to your seat, you could) On the performance last night Thistle should NOT be beaten on saturday!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know what row and seat number are on the picture of the ticket on the league cup final t shirt. My dad's was KK 41 which I had put up on one of the Jags fans photo websites and I wonder if Greaves have taken it from there. (it's still in mint condition)

My wife and myself are being going to a good friend's daughter's wedding in October. The dress code is formal, which in Oz tends to be minimum lounge suit. In Scotland I would have no hesitation in wearing my kilt, and would like to wear it to this wedding, but I'm not sure. Any advice? and what type of jacket? I would wear an Argyle in Scotland.

I've got one as well but I'm wearing one of my Jags tops to the Victory game. Must phone my boss tomorrow. He flew to Sydney for the match. Oh dear oh dear oh dear (i've a scan of the aforementioned jersey on my computer but don't know how to put it on the forum)

Living in Melbourne I'm really envious that you're going to get to Firhill and I'm not. When I read about the colours I first thought that you'd be an adelaide crows or gold coast suns supporter. The closest in colours you'll get to would be the Glasgow High School fp RFC (I don't know if they're still around) because they play(ed) in gold and brown hoops. But that's rugby. The Jags have had a few Aussies playing for them, most recently ex Melbourne Victory player Simon Storey. Enjoy your stay watching real football.

From a refereeing perspective, once the field, team sheets, boots, shin guards and jewelry have been checked, both teams and officials should take the field. The assistants will then check the nets and the captains and officials meet at the centre and the coin is tossed. The team winning the toss will be declared the winners, and everyone then retires to the pub.
