  1. Totally agree. Mitchell's distribution is well ahead of Sneddon's. Not sure when we'll get to see him though given Doolan's approach to team selection. Maybe if we lose again next week, we'll see a change.
  2. I think we've been slow to get the ball moving again from set pieces for years.
  3. Find it hard to be overly analytical of a game we lost by the odd goal in seven away on a plastic pitch in the rain. Shit happens.
  4. So any statement by club saying funds raised go straight in to player budget is misleading at best??
  5. If the money had already been spent and the club went to the fans looking for contributions , then I think it would be fair to say the club is relying handouts to balance the books. If the player's fund was required to pay the wages of the current squad to the end of the season, then it would be fair to say the club was relying on handouts to balance the books. However that as far as I understand it is not the case. This is additional funding over and above current budget, a bonus if you like which might get us a slightly better quality player in the transfer window, than we otherwise would have had. And entirely voluntary. Don't have a clue how this can be portrayed as a bad thing.
  6. I had a stupid thought when Harry Milne came on. Could he play defensive midfield? He's physical, reasonably good at tackling and can pass the ball. Just a thought.
  7. All of the above. Credit to Airdrie though in the second half - great energy levels and hunted everything down.
  8. Wasn't there today but pleased to read positive comments about Wasiri. I've said it before, but he looks like a player who needs confidence to play his best, and we need more competition at the back.
  9. Looked to me that other players got their chance, either because they showed well enough when they came on against Ayr - Mackenzie and Alston - or because they haven't had game time recently - Lyon and Diack. Fairly rational decisions in the circumstances. Pretty sure MacDonald will get another shot soon enough. The one I feel sorry for is Mitchell, who appeared to be first pick, got an injury and has been on the bench ever since. I think he's pretty much the only player in the squad who has grounds to feel a bit aggrieved.
  10. Very pleased with that. It would've been easy for the wheels to fall off form wise after getting a doing from United and having injuries. But players have ground out a couple draws and got a good win away. Always a tricky stage in the season. Hope they keep it up!
  11. I agree that long balls out of defence often come about because there appears to be no other options available, and getting the ball back in to play makes it easier to play out from the back. Muirhead's accuracy was poor last night, but he wasn't the only one - McInroy's radar was off too a few times in the first half. One of the reasons, I reckoned he should be playing further up the park. However, he also won the ball back a few times in front of the defence in second half at key moments.
  12. Their right back must've been relieved he only had to play against Zander for two minutes.... Just weird to leave the substitutions so late. Apart from that, Milne played well once he'd woken up, Williams did okay at right back - call me naive but I think there's a player there. Neilson strolled through much of the game. McMillan and Fitzpatrick were both doing some training runs during the warm up, so hopefully not too far away. While our form is nowhere near where it should be, I'm not writing this season off just yet. If Milne continues where he left off this evening and McMillan comes back, performances should improve.
  13. Swap Stanway and McInroy, or get Lyon on.
  14. I agree on the goalkeeper front. Not sure what Sneddon has done to merit his current run of games. Mitchell is miles better with the ball at his feet and distribution wise. Sneddon gives us nothing in that regard.
  15. Confidence has a massive impact on performance in sport. Williams is still establishing himself at the club and in Scottish football. It is not surprising that giving a penalty away affected him. Give him time and a few games and he'll get better.
  16. Positives? We got a point. As such the second quarter autumnal rot that has a habit of ruining our seasons hasn't yet taken full effect. Let's make sure it doesn't. I'm tired of supporting such a rollercoaster team.
  17. And United win 6-0. They're going to skoosh this league. Playing for a playoff position already.
  18. Sometimes you need to scrape something out of a game. Clearly we're not at our best form wise, so important we get something and wheels don't completely come off, like they have in previous seasons.
  19. I wasn't there but will take a draw - coming of a 5-0 doing, bit of a makeshift side, and away from home.
  20. Following the BBC text. Seems to be more long range shots from Queens Park than you'd normally see in five games, let alone one. Do they have a shoot on sight game plan or something?
  21. Pleased to see Tomi Adeloye get a start. Looks decent whenever I've seen him, and adds mobility and physicality up front.
  22. I left at 3-0 yesterday - first time I've ever left early. It wasn't because of the game - I wasn't feeling good for other reasons. I actually thought we were in the game for lengthy spells when it was 1-0 without making many clearcut chances. Defending was poor for the three goals I saw though. I can understand why we started with Bannigan and McInroy yesterday, because there were signs of a decent partnership forming recently, but obviously they were stretched and exposed yesterday. Williamson and Alston must be wondering when they'll get their chance... I might be being naive, but I think it's too early to judge McDonald - I still think there's a chance he'll make a decent contribution. James Lyon is mentioned in some of the posts on this thread - isn't he injured? All in all, a horrible result and scoreline, but I think I'll reserve judgement for our games against other teams in the division. Lastly, it's so f'ing Thistle for an ex-player to scoring a bloody hat-trick on his return to Firhill... I was messaging my United supporting pal during the game, saying Holt was odds-on to score. Didn't expect three though!
  23. I think that's the main point of the Ian Wright Facebook post pasted above. Creevy should've known better than to splatter Facebook with his grievances, and the fact that he has chosen to do this suggests to me that he wasn't the right person to be chairman. I hope the current directors are being a lot more circumspect and measured in any communications. The flags stuff is unnecessary tittle tattle.
  24. Imo it's very much a double edged sword for football as it is for everything.
  25. I was under the impression we were as united a club as I I've ever seen at the end of last season, because everyone's focus was on the football and the football was great. Happy days. Now we're in to a new season, the usual mixed bag of results the 1st quarter in the Championship throws up. Add in a bit of boardroom squabbling and debates about how fan ownership should work... And the sense of unity dissolves. The joys of social media....
