  1. Not sure about Cadette, but the other two were beverage merchants. Mcfadden keeps himself fit and is a good person to have around.
  2. TL, yes I believe Ian McCall would make a very good chief scout, nothing else. If the club were to speculate on this we could do very well over the longer term.
  3. To clear up what I'm saying; We are lucky to have Archie as our manager and he has done very well to get us promoted and to keep us up. However, if we don't get a steady supply of good cheap players through the door we are sooner or later going to go back down. I believe that the lack of supply of good cheap players is our main problem. Ian McCall's greatest strength is bringing in good players on the cheap. Archie has the eye for a good player, neverthess, it's one thing knowing a good player and another getting them. If Ian McCall was given a new job to bring in players for Archie to run the rule over, it would IMO be a good move and leave Archie more time to concentrate on coaching. It could be very good for our club. There must be other Chic Charnley's or Frank Macavennie's going to waste out there, somewhere? If so we should find them and make them ours.
  4. Perhaps Archie would welcome some help? If Ian McCall is good at anything it's making something out of nothing, what he achieved at Clydebank was remarkable. Archie is a young coach and has so far done very well, where we could do better is trying to get local talent in the door, we are always going to struggle trying to get players in from down south with the wages on offer. We seem to be getting players that no one else wants, and after watching them I see why! Apart from Abdul Osman I don't think any of these "new" signings are very good. Stevenson, looks like player that should be hanging up his boots. Seabourne, seems ok, but no better than just about ok, and is probably injury prone. Carroll appears to be no great shakes either. Perhaps Eccleston will be really good, but I wouldn't bet on it. I simply do not believe that there is not the talent we need in our own back yard and see no real future in sifting through the dregs of English football.
  5. From what I can remember the ball was getting belted up the park more often than not. The point I'm trying to make is that we wer a team that was very good at building from the back. I do not believe that this is now the case anymore.
  6. Some of the decisions Archie has made this season have been a bit strange, Stevenson playing as centre forward and Fox getting a game are the two that I just can't fathom? Watching that game on friday (regardless of the result) was concerning. It has been posted on here a good few times that a good aspect of Scott Fox's game was that he distributed the ball to the defenders to build from the back. However, on friday night Fox was belting every ball straight up the park, he was obviously told to do this as it's not his natural style. Basically the players at the back are no longer good enough to play the ball out of defence. This is Archies team and I'm sorry to say that at the moment, it's going backwards.
  7. Always thought Ian McCall was a very good manager.
  8. RE: Jake Carrol being man of the match. Fair enough, me saying he was rank rotten, is well over the top and a bit out of order. It can't be easy playing in that defence, he probably deserved a medal more than man of the match.
  9. To be honest, I'm not blaming Scott Fox as he is doing his best, it's just obvious that he is very poor keeper compared to Paul Gallagher. If you add that to the strange decision of Ryan Stevenson being played at centre forward for the first few games, then it's little wonder Doolan is rusty and is missing chances? Last season we were unlucky to lose games, this year we have not been unlucky we have been (for the most part) poor. In fact, we were lucky against ICT, the defence was a shambles we were fortunate to not get punished. The question has to be asked, is the current team better or worse than the one Alan Archibald inherited?
  10. Is it just me? How did Jake Carrol get man of the match? I thought he was rank rotten too!
  11. Balatoni and Fox are rank rotten, Balatoni can look ok if he has someone half decent beside him apart from that......Fox, is a bloody nightmare of a keeper, if he was all we had, then so be it, but the fact that we have an excellent keeper sitting on the bench makes you wonder about the wisdom of the management team. The rest of the team is fine, however, the defence can not be relied upon at all, and is an absolute joke. We can no longer play out of defence and now just hoof it up the park.
  12. Think it says alot about James McFadden that he has been training with us for the past couple of months to maintain his fitness. I would sign him if the price was right as I believe he would be a great player for our club and could teach our younger players a thing or two. St Mirren is a bit of a car crash at the moment, he might not fancy them.
  13. Right you are, no wonder you edit your old posts!
  14. I have no doubt is that Ryan Stevenson is a very skilful player and I hope he goes out and does a demolition job in the near future. You can only judge what you see with your own eyes and IMO, despite being played out of position, Ryan does not look too sharp at the moment. On the other hand, if you had asked me about Higgy this time last season, I would have said he was not bad to watch, an ok player, but all in all, no great shakes! So, I think you are right and it's only fair to judge Ryan after he has been played in his "familiar role" later on in the season.
  15. Hope Gary Fraser heals fast, one of our best players whose best days are in front of him.... On the other hand...Ryan Stevenson has the skill, but IMO looks really unfit and plays like a man at the end of his career and not like a player in his prime. Anyway, all the best to the jags, I think we can win this one and I really hope Ryan makes a mug of my comments.
  16. Must be a good profit in shirt lettering.
  17. Perhaps it's a typo, afterall, the club has a lot on it's plate at the moment.
  18. I always enjoy the posts by Sabbath one of the less obnoxious posters
  19. Perhaps we are going about things the wrong way round. If wages are so high in England, it's always going to be pretty thin pickings. Ok we don't have alot of money, but we are based in a huge city, there has to be undiscovered talent out there, that could do the business for us? I do not believe that we do not have what we need on our own doorstep. However, It's just not fashionable to sign local players these days.
  20. Ok, are you saying we should get rid of Lawless and SOD shouldn't be playing?
  21. IMO, Steven Lawless, is one of the best players at Thistle, if he had a bit of "protection" he would be even better. He reminds me of a young Archie Gemmill.
  22. Memories of being a small boy in the early mid 1970's; Those plastic footballs that used to kick about that were black & white and had all the teams names printed on them, used to kick about for years and were brick hard when burst, always had Third Lanark printed on them too. Football cards with a pretty disgusting bit of cardboard chewing gum in them, even tasted dodgey as a kid, so must have been bad. Hibs being rated as a good team! Football stickers (not pannini) that you had to lick the top of and put in your album, they were always falling out and had primitive "comedy" photo shopping of transferred players heads onto their new teams. Striker, the football game where you had to whack the top of the players head to pass the ball, great fun but it got wrecked pretty quickly. Happy Days
  23. It's just not fair, nevertheless, perhaps Celtic wil fair better in the fairs cup.
  24. To be honest, the whole thing is a farce, Celtic took a hiding and then everyone is hiding behind the rule book trying to justify it.
