  1. That sounds rather familiar. I'm fairly certain another club did something similar a couple of seasons ago. Wonder if they were successful with it. Quite like the idea. It could be a winner. Also if no target reached you're not tied into buying a season ticket and that could attract more applicants.
  2. And that would be as Arthur Duncan more or less would be first choice outside left while Johnny was at Firhill. I can remember Flanagan playing inside left quite a lot. In fact I might have seen him play that position just as often as right wing.
  3. Why not? Because our temporary manager wants to be our full time manager. Don't think it should be like that but I can't really blame Jackie if he puts getting the result in front of all else. edited to add I wish I'd listened to the Jagscast first. Scully in goals Stewart and Erkine up front and Jamie Campbell in a different position.
  4. Not so much the 6-1 win against Stirling as such but both Fraser & Campbell coming off the bench to score. Team display of the season imo was up at Raith a couple of months ago. A fine 2-0 win. On top from start to finish
  5. Don't know but if they've already started I'm sure you could still join in.
  6. Hope to get along as a spectator but can't see on official site when this kicks off and runs on to. Anyone help?
  7. Direct quote from today's ET
  8. I assume most on that list will be well known to Jackie McN. Two or three will be high earners that were on SPL wages (maybe one them is McLean?). McManus looks like he's carrying a bit of weight but that could be down to lack of training due to his injuries. Btw bit surprised to not see Deuchar on that list.
  9. Doesn't appear as a Scottish wartime internationalist either. He could tho' have represented one of the other home nations (I think a Scot played for England during the war). Only capped Forsyths are Big Campbell Forsyth the goalie, Tam Forsyth and of course Our Alex.
  10. If this is accurate you can always ask him yourself on Sunday. HERE 2nd last paragraph.
  11. agree that's a grand offer indeed. It would be great if it went to a jags kid that's been hard done by. Maybe someone who's been let down this season in some way or other. Off the top of my head all I can mind is lennythistle's kids getting traumatised up at Forthbank but I'm sure there's been other posters on here about their kids being upset or disappointed (Gordie or Rodge I think was one case)
  12. I believe Malone is being played mostly at centreback at Ayr and would have been a decent shout if Archie hadn't re-signed. I've always thought Malone a 100% effort guy but lacked an awful lot for a Div 1 player. I'd say McKinlay would be a far safer bet but anyway let's hope Boyle could be persuaded to stay tho' that's not too likely methinks.
  13. Thanks for that . I did realise that was the case but I had a bang on the head last week and must have forgot.
  14. Didn't want to put this in the McMenamin thread, as this is to do with the other end of the field, but if Boyle is for the off I think Kevin McKinlay wouldn't be that bad a replacement. Folk will remember him from a few seasons back and no doubt find that suggestion bordering on ludicrous. But, by many accounts, he's a reasonably well established left back these days. Again Kevin's another that has had a few injuries of late but if he could prove he's over that then I don't believe he'd be a bad signing. Archie would benefit to have someone with a bit of pace beside him and I don't remember KMcK lacking in that regard.
  15. I thought, like an earlier poster, that a player suffering concussion had to take time out from the following week's fixture?
  16. Shame on you! You should apologise this minute to TL. How would you like someone saying that about the love of your life?
  17. I doubt whether a go it alone salary cap in Scotland would work not that there's not a lot of merit in the idea. There's a couple of other ways of toning down some of the nonsense that's gone on before and to some degree still goes on. Firstly instead of a salary cap (or in conjunction with one if a wage limitation was practical) limit clubs' player wage bills to a certain percentage of the individual club's turnover. I remember Dundee were about 10 year ago spending just over 150% of their turnover on player wages and I think Dunfermline about 130%. Result of course was the former going into administration and the Pars ripping up contracts to avoid the same outcome. I wouldn't know what percentage limit to set tho' 50% of turnover seems to me about right. I realise that this could be open to abuse (boot money etc) but most of that abuse would fall foul of the taxman and vatman. Secondly, and I'm thinking more about our division here, limit the player squad to say to no more than 15 outfield players over the age of 21 with no limit on those below that age. If in tandem with with the wage/turnover thingy it would be a logical move in any case. There's a third thing I'd like to see but doubt it's possible. That would be a return to split gates in league matches. If we went down the route of 16 club leagues we would likely have to revert to groups in the league cup to augment the drop in league games. Those group stages would be home and away and that would be an ideal place to split gates.
  18. Condolences to David and his family.
  19. Don't know if your meaning at Firhill or the last game at Falkirk. I think tho' you're talking about Higginbotham who's none too popular with the Falkirk fans. They think he's too flash with little substance to his game. That may be true but he does see a lot of the ball and appears to have decent delivery Btw Finnegan's the clown that tried to get Archie sent off in an earlier game. Centre forward with both a poor scoring and disciplinary record.
  20. Perhaps that's why we had a McGowan on loan.
  21. I don't think you are disagreeing, HJ. All I was saying was we have a fair quota of front players already signed for next season and one or two would have to go out on loan if we bring in an experienced striker. As for McMenamin I don't believe he's a spent force. I wouldn't know whether he's the ideal partner for Doolan or not (rather think he could be) but I'm fairly sure he'd chip in with a good few goals regardless. If he formed a useful double act with Doolan all the better. Expanding on HJ,s last couple of sentences, with SFL wages being forced downwards players will be looking for local clubs to cut down on travel costs, which are obviously higher these days. McMenamin is I believe a local lad.
  22. Not so sure Accies will. St Mirren on the other hand would likely dip into their pockets even to keep hold of SPL level players or bring a few in. I would tho' imagine we'll get considerably more thru the gate than Hamilton will ever bring.
