  1. Agree with the Cove v Falkirk assessment. My only doubt being will Airdrie prioritise the Montrose game. Perhaps it's unwise in terms of strategy but if we were in Airdrie's position I would want us to go after every game and see what happens!
  2. After last night's fixtures we now know the top 5 so time to return to the Can We Do It Thread. First point is we are top of the league looking down from a lofty pinnacle. Who would have thought that 10 days ago? Second point is how have we done so far this season against the other top 5 teams in terms of points and goals: v Cove - 1 point down 1-2 v Falkirk - 2 points level 2-2 v Airdrie - 6 points up 6-3 v Montrose - 6 points up 6-0 Plenty of positives here. Cove and Falkirk are the main obstacles though Airdrie and Montrose, at Links Park, will be difficult. Two draw and two wins should be enough if the draws are v Cove and Falkirk. I would expect to beat Falkirk and Airdrie at Firhill and win a tight game at Links Park. I would settle for a draw at Cove and that would give us 43 points and the title, though 41 might be enough (with our goal difference also a factor). The easy way is of course to win all 4 games!
  3. Signing off for tonight Let's all enjoy the moment! Cheers to all!
  4. Agreeon both counts your ladyship. We never seem to do very well at Dumbarton and their stats suggest they are adept at stuffiness! As for Barry Cook well he is either totally incompetent or biased against the Jags! Let's face it he disallows our goals even when we hit the back of the net with the ball!
  5. Of course you are correct DD. The must win was tongue-in-cheek given we seem to have playing must win games for 3 years or so! I do think though the management and players must approach the game with the correct mental attitude - we can relax a bit but not too much!
  6. And why not! I would call it just to relegate that hypocritical mob called Brechin City!!
  7. That's 4 wins on the trot 12 goals with 0 conceded and 12 points in the bag. Must win game coming up on Saturday v Airdrie with Falkirk and Cove playing each other. 3 points on Saturday and either Falkirk or Cove could be out of the race!
  8. I had dream that the Jags would win 4-0 and that both Falkirk and Cove would lose! When I woke up my head kicked in over my dream and I told me that Falkirk and Cove wouldn't both lose. Got that wrong and oh we didn't win 4-0! 2-0 will do!!
  9. Great for McIver and for squeeky bums! C'Mon the Jags
  10. Looks clearly over to me! Did Barry Cook awRd us a throw-in instead?
  11. Dumbarton's home record suggests 1 goal would be enough to win the game. If we do score 1 then I will want a second!
  12. "Tiny Wharton" - a giant of a referee in every respect! ! I remember a game at Firhill with Wharton as the Referee. A Thistle player in possession passed the ball under pressure from an opponent who had a "fly" kick at the Thistle player after the ball had been passed. Although play had moved on Wharton had let his eye linger for a moment on the two players and saw the little kick. He dropped back and without stopping the game said something to the opponent. End of incident and the opponent played a very clean game thereafter. It emerged later that Wharton had said to the opponent "Mr (surname) I saw that. Do anything like that again and you will be off. Do you understsand? The player replied Yes Mr Wharton! Those were the days!
  13. It is said a week is a long time in politics IMO this is also true of football. Barely a week ago we were almost dead and buried with 4th place being the best we could hope for. This week following 3 wins, 9 points and 10 goals with 0 conceded the talk is about winning the League. Brilliant! Can we do it. I think we can. I agree with all of the posts made on this thread about the impact of today's results! Cove are, unless Falkirk get their act together, our main rivals. However its not just about the last 3 games! Since football resumed we are unbeaten with 4 wins & 3 draws. The only disappointing result being the home draw with Forfar. If we go into the Dumbarton game with the mentality that it is going to be a really tough game and that we are going to have to work hard as a team to get a result then barring a bad referee or extremely bad luck, in other words a fluke night, I think we will win. The League title is within our own destiny and within our grasp.
  14. I agree with this so changing my preference for a Cove win to a Cove v Falkirk draw. We are all assuming of course that the JAGS, Cove and Falkirk all win their Tuesday night games all of them away to normally stuffy opponents. As I said on another thread playing their notmal game Peterhead and Montrose are capable of taking points from Falkirk and Cove. However a midweek game at Dumbarton has its dangers as well. We are though going into the game rested, in form, confident, scoring goals and perhaps more important with a great team spirit! Set up just perfectly for a Thistle........................?
  15. I think there is some merit in this idea. I might be influenced by the fact the JAGS are playing well, scoring freely and winning games but the schedule of games we are playing just now I think increases the level of interest and excitement. Coming off the Peterhead, Clyde & Montrose games I am eagerly looking forward to the Cove v Falkirk match then onto Tuesday's game v Dumbarton. Great idea. Think it could work in a normal season with the 2 month break. What are the downsides recovery times would be short especially for niggling injuries, managers might argue about lack of preparation time for games, there could be short and long-term health and/or fitness considerations, saturation of games and football on TV etc. There may be other 'downside' in terms of finance that I am not qualified to comment on. On balance I would support this idea.
  16. I thought the goals from Rudden, Bannigan and Tiffoney would be the popular selections and that Rudden second would 'poll' the most votes, deservedly so. Perhaps I should also have included Rudden's second v Clyde which was also a very good goal. As has been said a case can be made for all of the goals being goal of the match. Its just great we as JAGS can at long last have this type of conversation. Long may it continue.
  17. A thread for just a bit of lighthearted fun. We were treated to some quality goals tonight from Rudden's excellent brace, Bannigan's free kick, Tiffany's cheeky shot to the near post and Gordon's quick reaction in a penalty box scramble aided by McIver's dummy (I 'll call it a dummy) Which goal is considered the goal of the match and why. I will start the ball rolling. It's a tough call but I go for the first goal which I think might be loosely described as a team goal. The long ball out of defence was a wonderful pass; was it from Bell? Foster showed great skill controlling the ball on the run with a sublime first touch, and his run to the bye line was determined. The cut back was excellent but I loved the way Rudden changed his body position to angle the ball a little further away from the goalkeeper. A wonderful goal.
  18. I think I would like Cove to beat Falkirk on Saturday so that after 17 games the table would look like Falkirk 31 pts Cove 31 pts JAGS 30pts. this makes next Tuesday very interesting with Montrose v Cove Peterhead v Falkirk Dumbarton v JAGS. We need Montrose and Peterhead to recover from the drubbings we handed out to them and put in a stuffy performance against our main rivals. We of course have to beat Dumbarton - the weekend off should help us here because we will have to work very hard to win this game. After that it's easy - just win our 4 play-off games and Championship here we come!!
  19. Really good performance tonight. Excellent team spirit with the players working hard for each other. We were lethal in front of goal. 5-0 I really didn't see that one coming! BTW I thought it was a penalty when the goalkeeper jumped straight into McIver's back. Will go and get a refill now and enjoy the rest of the evening. We'll done to all PTFC - that's 3 must win games won with an aggregate goal difference of 10-0 Cheers all!
  20. It's certainly going for us tonight - fantastic! 5-0 ya beauty
  21. Did you hear my shout from near Peterhead 4-0 ya beauty
  22. Where has this team been all season. 3 top drawer goals!!
  23. 2-0 HT against one of the better teams in the League - great! Think though we need to do more in midfield as Montrose after the second goal were starting to dominate possession. This team can score goals so we must get control of midfield. Our defence is looking solid - so far so good!
