  1. I have to admit that the self same thought came to my mind after initially reading some of the posts, however if Scumdee do go into administration then they should be treated as far as possible like Meadowbank were. However, past experience has shown Scottish Football and credibility are hardly the two most common bedfellows!
  2. As your man Brutus once said, "There is a tide in the affairs of men. Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune; Omitted, all the voyage of their life Is bound in shallows and in miseries. On such a full sea are we now afloat, And we must take the current when it serves, Or lose our ventures". Unfortunately, loothe destination of our particular little voyage is the Second Division and quite possibly eventual extinction. Sorry to be so negative, but unless something totally unexpected happens I foresee no light at the end of a very dark tunnel. You can actually sense the despondency of the support. What makes the present situation so difficult to digest, is that as supporters of a so-called unfashionable football team we do not expect unmitigated success, but the last ten years with one or two brief interludes has been in the main bloody depressing! As a boy I saw Thistle semi-finals(one in pretty disgraceful fashion to a team that play in blue!), little did I realise that I would look back on these days as the halcyon day's.
  3. This is the most salient point. To be honest this clubs been on the decline for 40 odd years and absolutely nothing has changed in all this time, in fact it's just kept on declining. I've the feeling that the next time we get into a financial mess it'll be goodnight Firhil and Partick Thistle.
  4. As a few other people have already said. the really sad thing is that I am not for one minute surprised.
  5. Can't really add much to this, as it sums up exactly what I've been thinking for some considerable time now. What is quite worrying is the fact that the so called custodians of this club couldn't see what nearly everyone else can. I hardly think the current position of the team, required the clairvoyant talents of "Mystic Meg" to foresee.
  6. Sounds reasonable on the face of it and I for one would be interested. The only caveat I have is similar to what's already been expressed ie a figure slightly lower than £95 so any scheme can be as inclusive as possible.
  7. Yes, scunnered is exactly how I feel and I really do wish I could make a point that would shake of this all pervading sense of doom, sadly I can't.
  8. W Whilst being a tad relieved that we were saved from total embarrassment and potentially football oblivion tonight; I'm afraid the truly awful state of Scottish football is no longer serious. In point of fact if action isn't taken at all levels from schoolboy to the so-called "elite" to foster basic footballing ability ability and to develop skill levels, to say nothing of a fundamental restructuring of the allegedly professional game in this country, I fear it will be terminal. I doubt this will be the song sung by Chick Dung and his colleagues. Nonetheless its the truth , hard as it is to swallow.
  9. It could only be Thistle, making us suffer all week dreading another defeat. Instead what did we get an actually really good performance and a vital win.Of course it wouldn't have been Thistle without us squandering a good few chances. However, now ain't the time for negativity just enjoy the victory.
  10. 3-0 to a Swedish team who are hardly the most feared attacking force on earth, Christ as if we weren't depressed enough!
  11. God help us if watching Thistle isn't bad enough!!!
  12. I have been having these thoughts for more than 5 seasons , in fact from the last time we were in the so-called SPL. Unfortunately, I have now come to the conclusion that we have past the point of no return. We're skint, losing support drastically and to compound matters we are pretty crap. Admittedly, none of these problems are exactly alien to Firhill, but I've got to admit things have rarely looked so bleak in my thirty odd years of supporting this club. There seems to be an all pervasive atmosphere of doom and gloom and going to a game is more often than not an exercise in masochism. I hate to say it, but if we get tanned on Saturday as we might well get, I fear the worst. I hate being a hawker of gloom, but I cannot honestly see any reasons to be cheerful at present. Nonetheless,I'll to Firhill on Saturday as usual and cheer on the Jag's, and just mayne my worst fears will not be realised.
  13. I couldn't agree more and to be frank I'm relieved that it isn't just me who is feeling this strange feeling of disconnect. As a Jag's supporter I'm used to mentally having to accept less than perfect displays on the park. However, I must confess that I find it hard to psyche myself up for a season that not only will we have a smaller squad than last year, but one of even less potential. In other words the best we can hope for is standing still, not exactly a clincher for going along to Firhill is it?
  14. I totally understand and to a certain degree sympathise with many supporters. However, where are we going to get a better coach than McCall from, as opposed to another one of the same ilk. Not to mention any compensation to IM in the event we give him the boot. He should at least be given the first ten games to see if he is going anywhere, before people start calling for his head.
  15. Those were the start of the days when you recognised more of the opposition players , than you did your own.
  16. In retrospect Cormack's record wasn't so bad, but however at the time the consensus was pretty damming. Oh how naive we were expecting to be promoted at the first time of asking and without too much trouble either.Looking back it seems like another world indeed.
  17. Now that's probably about the most sagacious comment on here(not to mention realistic and achievable).
  18. And here was me feeling sorry for myself that I onlly got out of hospital today and so couldnt make the game. Sounds like I was the fortunate one; I may add that I singularly unsurprised. I let my heart rule the head and put down a 2-1 victory in the predoctor instead of the gubbing I feared we'd get. I see some folk are wailing and gnashing their teeth already, but be honest was anyone ubder the misapprehension that we'd be engaged in anything other than a dogfight this year? Nae mobey, dwindling support it doesn't really add up to a substained title challenge now does it? And I hardly think there's a managerial genius just waiting to be plucked from obscurity by those reknowned masters of talent spotting the Partick Thistle BoD! So the long and short of it would seem to be hope for the best.
  19. We could come up with all the wonderful schemes under the sun, however the bottom line is that the only way to motivate people is to have an entertaining team on the park. Fortunately or unfortunately the days when people would rapidly part with their hard earned regardless of the fare on offer are long gone. So if the people turn up and the quality is as vad as it often has been in recent years then they are hardly likely to pencil in 3:00 PM Firhil on alternate Saturdays, will they? I have to confess that I for one, am not half as regular an attender as I was in the past. I hope that this season we can maintain some sort of realistic interest beyond Christmas.
  20. After a particularly ordinary tournament, the final remarkably presented a game between the forces of good and the forces of evil and for once the good guys won. A tad Daily Rangerish I know , but its good to see the side of the angels winning for once. Thought from start to finnish Spain looked the real article and I think it's good for football that they triumphed. As I indicated previously the tournament was distinctly ordinary with only really Argentina and Germany lightening it up in addition to Spain. Elsewhere only Slovakia and New Zealand outpeformed on expectation. England thankfully were truly awful all things considered, the sound of ego's bursting only marginally louder than the groans of an English dominated media. The media did not enjoy a good tournament and surely the TV stations must think again at the completely inane level of the coverage provided. The wishful thinking that replaces balanced reporting when it comes to England never fails to stagger me. Its as well Jag's supporters do not view the world through similarly rose tinted glasses or we would be planning on our succesful Champions league campaign in a couple of seasons time. As for the contributions of the so-called experts I think the regulars of many bars in this country could add more knowledge and insight than those tw*ts could.
  21. Good to see Thistle bucking the trend of cutting the coaching staff in favour of the playing staff...I think!
