  1. Yes it was a total embarrassment from a referee!
  2. So frustrating that we let Penrice go on loan the day before - our rotten luck with injuries continues. Speedy recovery to Callum, hope to see him back soon. Ross Fleming looks a good prospect but he is just a bit young to throw in.
  3. Haha! You are spot on though - Ryan Christie is an excellent player and will be one we need to deal with
  4. It's about £5 for the parking mate, but there is plenty of on street parking to the south of the ground and you get away quicker
  5. Thoroughly enjoyed the game and looking forward to the next round. It's good to see the way the youth team is instructed to play, all very confident on the ball. The whole team strolled but McCarthy was a clear cut above. Some very exciting prospects in there and hope to see some of them in the first team over the next year or two
  6. Goals 2 and 3 were superb, but particularly Lamonts, what a finish And a great solo from Kev for number 4
  7. Yep and ironically that run was broken by the softest penalty ever...against Celtic!
  8. Really Looking forward to the match on Tuesday - enjoyed seeing the young players in a competitive game last year. Stirling Uni is a slightly different fixture too. I am slightly disappointed that, given the investment the Weirs have made and the development squad potentially playing a big part in our future, we can only be bothered to name two players on the official website.
  9. I would hate to work with Levein too but I think Archie was his captain at Tannadice. In any case, think his next step will be England as there is less of a glass ceiling there - best you can do here is finish 2nd and probably 3rd if Sevco ever get their act together
  10. It will be away too, on the Tuesday night!
  11. One thing this summer has highlighted to me is that we are now competing for a higher calibre of player and against better resourced clubs. This is making it tough but we need that bit of quality if we want to be competing for the top half of the league or better. This to me makes the investment of the Weirs have made all that bit more crucial and well targeted as the only way we can do this is either to develop our own players and either build a team around them or sell them and reinvest. It's very encouraging to see the likes of McCarthy and McLaughlin on the edge of the first team. Also see the U17s qualified for the final of the Rey Cup - don't know how prestigious it is but they beat both Burnley and Sunderland which is really encouraging. The youth team combined with our management and scouting team's ability to unearth a few gems is the future for us
  12. With Banzo fit and looking good, it will be interesting to see whether Osman or Barton get the nod in midfield. Great problem to have!
  13. What a performance that was, particularly from the front 4. Two more wins should get us through although likely in second. Was disappointed with Osman today - whether he won the ball or not, he didn't need to dive in at 4-0 up and in the middle of the park. Feels churlish to in any way criticise Archie after that but I thought it was a foolish risk to leave a tiring and yellow carded Banzo on at 5-0 up for as long as he did. Banzo's discipline was excellent but one late challenge or handball or whatever and we could have been two important players down for Tuesday. We had a good option on the bench with McCarthy and could frankly have played with 9 men and still cantered it. Was surprised how poor Saints were - I thought that would be a really tough match today.
  14. I'm generally the type of fan who is described as a happy clapper but I was hugely disappointed with that today. I expected a hard game and said before the game I would have taken any win. I could even have half accepted losing on penalties if we had shown a bit of steel. However, we treated the game like a pre season friendly which isn't good enough - people often refer to the League Cup as a diddy cup yet we celebrate winning almost fifty years ago on a frequent basis. Cerny looked solid as usual and some great saves, Penrice looks a real prospect, Spittal kept at it and Banzo kept going despite tiring. I was however fuming with Barton today, he was constantly getting caught and was so casual throughout. I also thought Edwards was awful. Chris' goal was superb and he played some nice stuff but it is concerning that after 60 minutes he is always knackered. I agree with the poster above that the game was screaming out for McCarthy or Lamont to come on and add a bit of energy. In other observations: - I felt it was the right decision to let Amoo go and can see why we let Azeez go. However, we do have a worrying lack of pace up top which stops us varying it to a degree. - there is understandably a lot of complaints about us failing to capitalise on the top 6 by doing our business early. However, I do wonder if it is because we are now trying to sign 'better' players and the competition is tougher, these guys may have other options and may be taking their time. However, we do need some reinforcements soon as the squad is quite threadbare. - pet hate of mine, why do we frequently name fewer than 7 subs. I know some of the Weir lads may not be ready but at least give them the experience of being around the squad on match day and sitting on the bench (the young lad that came on as LB against Aberdeen for example) Hopefully back on plan next week against St Mirren (who look promising this year)
  15. A dreadful 75 minutes after we scored. Someone needs to tell Barton and Edwards the season has started as they haven't received the memo
  16. Barnsley could be a great move - they have progressed both John Stones and Alfie Mawson in recent years, could really push Liam on, which would be to our advantage too!
  17. Officially a Tykes player now. All the very best Liam!
  18. Reckon we will be away on Day 1 as home last year.
  19. Ironic if he goes there after Liam rejected them because he didn't know the future managerial situation at the club!
  20. It was only the end of the season before last that Hull were being linked with a £1 million move for him. Could have a player on our hands of Archie works his magic. Welcome Blair!
