  1. We should face it. We have one of the worst leagues in Europe. And one of the worst international teams in Europe. Aberdeen's result is pitiful but comes as no surprise. Surely Thistle can take them on with some confidence now instead of lying down like spring lambs. Scottish football is rotten to the core and nobody does anything about it. Start again like the Welsh. Get rid of the dead wood who have presided over failure after failure. Brown, Hutton,Whitaker, the Fletchers,Naismith,Morrison. The list goes on and on. Similarly the deadbeats that run Scottish football should have been run out of town years ago like platini and blatter. And it's nothing to do with the Tories or the Nationalists or the Socialists so let's keep politics out of this forum. Anyway, I am looking forward to the season and Scotland strolling through the group, Jags winning the Cup and Clyde coming up from amongst the dead men. Or perhaps not!
  2. Stuart is a great player. Totally committed to the cause from the day I saw him dominate vs Everton. I knew that day he was going to be a star. He works for Thistle, takes the ball off the centre backs, runs, takes men on, distributes, encourages, covers incredible ground. Nobody else can play this role and I was concerned about this. He has the potential to play for his country, hopefully with Thistle and certainly if he moves on. He is the perfect age to further develop and absolutely command the play as long as he receives the support from his colleagues. Brilliant news. Let's attack and bring back the lost supporters.
  3. I can't let the Stevo love in pass without comment. I thought the discussion was complete months ago. He was our gun signing, probably the highest paid, a very good player at hearts. But he was fat, slow, lazy and a useless player for us. He let Archie and the fans down badly. He had more ability than craigen but jimmy was a far better asset. Right from the start he gave the impression he didn't want to play for us. Don't care about other teams but suspect he will be a liability at sons.
  4. We should go back and offer Miller improved terms.
  5. Was never convinced by Frans. Much preferred Seaborne. I don't like gentlemen playing at CB. I like thugs there. Like the Inverness Caley bloke. Miller is now an absolute priority along with a nasty snarling big guy. I have never liked Thistle playing 3 at the back, especially after Tannadice but Miller could play on the right of a back 3 which could release our attacking wing backs. Not sure if Booth could play on the left in this format? Thinking of Penrice at LWB. Frans was utterly useless at Tannadice. Might give Archie a plan B. Frans didn't deserve any more than a 1 year but It ain't easy finding ready made replacements. I wouldn't touch BalAtoni with a barge pole after his dreadful season at Killie. We shall trust Archie on this one.
  6. I think, realistically we would have struggled against both those teams. And both of Barnsley and millwall, the teams that contested the league 1 play off would beat us comfortably. Remember ATS was relegated with Doncaster, Hendrie was nowhere near the Wigan team and SOD's team were nowhere in the 4th tier. Only Taylor has starred and he was probably our best player. However I think Banzo could cope at Championship level in England.
  7. We were the oldest team in the euro qualifiers. Duds like Scott Brown Steven Fletcher and Alan Hutton walk into the team. But I can't think of anyone better. That's the concern. I watched some of the scotland vs Portugal (think it was under 17's) recently. It was only 2-0 but there was a massive gap in class. Rather like last night's game, we were set up to lose not too heavily. But the young Scots were skill-less and skinny. You look around the young players and perhaps Tierney might excite. Is there anyone out there or will Darren Fletcher still be playing in 10 years' time. I recall the glory night vs Czechoslovakia with relish as one of the great nights of my life. Would live to share another with my kids. I feel for Strachan as he has a lack of any talent. BTW Josh Magennis would walk into the Scottish team.
  8. We are getting progressively worse. If we need Scott Fox there is no future. Compare him to Cerny who is nowhere near the Czech team.
  9. Temple ton would be an ideal replacement for lawless. And he would be properly managed to get the best out of him.
  10. I hope the Killie Fatboy doesn't attack those lovely middle class Bairns fans today when they celebrate a great victory by invading the plastic.
  11. We tried Aero at rb. Nightmare. Agree he couldn't attack like SOD and probably suits Falkirk better as an old fashioned defender.
  12. Aero was a great 1st division player. He just couldn't cut it against stronger, fitter and nastier strikers.
  13. How come Falkirk have 3 players who were useless SPL players for us beat killie who stole 2 of our best players who sat on the bench? That's fitba! Mon the Bairns.
  14. Prove us all wrong,Ryan.
  15. Easy solution. Give him to pars full time. No fee. Assuming tam is fit, give Galls the bench place. Save a wage. Its unlikely both get injured at the same time.
  16. Lindsay is now at the stage of needing to kick on. He needs to come back fitter, leaner and faster. Mobility needs to be addressed as he is an excellent ball winner.and agree that he should play on the left only.
  17. I would rather be in the cup final. Because we could have won something. But we gave up at Tannadice.
  18. Really enjoyed the game. Both teams deserve credit for attacking constantly. Considering we had 7/8 out injured not a bad display. I would have liked Nisbet to have started to give him a decent chance. Young Penrice top class and will only get better and stronger. I thought Wilson played well but not sure he is good enough for SPL. Hope I'm wrong. Only downside Scully who was very poor. Onward and upward. Get those who want to stay signed up and clear the others out ASAP so we can build a squad earlier than last season.
  19. Could mention a dozen worse. Nelson Still.
  20. 3 jags rejects. All total SPL failures. And they will still beat Ayrshire Sevco.
  21. Seaborne has been an excellent defender. Yes he has made the odd mistake but who hasn't? Just watch some of the defending in tonight's pretenders game. Both these teams would have benefitted from Dan playing for them. I don't care that he can't play like Hansen or shaggy. Win the ball and clear. That's his job. To describe him as bombscare is plain stupid. I think Cerny is one of the best keepers I have seen; not just down to shot stopping or taking crosses but through organising defence and positioning. Never appreciated this till scully replaced him. Sorry, he is not good enough. Gal is a better bet. Lindsay is a left sided player and struggles at RCB. Have faith with him but he should compete with seaborne while Miller and frans should compete on the right. As long as they all sign!
  22. David has had some great games. Then next week he is non existent. Hopefully with maturity and good management he will be a greater asset next season. I think he needs to feel wanted and needed so he will no longer be periforal. He should appreciate the talent he has and put it to better use. He can destroy number 3's which I love to see. Expecting big things.
  23. Sometimes a manager can only take a club so far and no complaints about Archie in this regard. The question is whether he can further develop the team and his own management skills further which Ferguson clearly achieved. With Thistle's relatively meagre resources this is not an easy task. We don't have a sugar daddy like Ross County who will pump money in to the club in January if we are near the foot of the table. As a previous poster advised, we should be careful what we wish for. Remember Lamont, Johnstone,Cormack,McVeigh, Campbell et al. All awful managers. Although I always wanted Jim Duffy. I digress. From this perspective a 7 year stint will certainly test Archie's management skills. Can we progress any further? And I would be delighted if we don't need another manager before the 3 years are up.
  24. I'm not sure about this. Even if we go down I would not be for sacking him because I would trust him to get us back up. Or at least not slip down through the leagues. I think Archie is a good man manager and the players I am sure like him. A trustworthy guy who is not too excitable. A 2 year deal perhaps. But the football is turgid and that's why the crowds are down. I hope he can develop a more attractive style of play in these 3 years. And still keep us up!
  25. The original Killie Fatboy did exist. There was a spell when we beat them fairly regularly. I recall the magnificent game when Badger ill advisedly swopped us for Ayrshire sevco. This was before segregation. Bobby was on the bench and came on after some badger baiting from a good jags support. As far as I can remember his fits the action was to punch Brian Whittaker and was immediately red carded. We won and we're lucky to escape with our lives. The Fatboy was purple with rage and was dragged away by several police. He was also lifted at a subsequent game when we won 1-0 after wee Geordie stole the points. Pretty sure it was the same guy. We were segregated by then but he ran down the front of the fence and tried to get to the jags fans assisted by other fat people. Are they all fat?
