  1. A draw in the cup game would be great as well.Another big crowd and more TV money. That would be one way to turn a bad cup draw into a good one.
  2. Maybe something like this; 25000 x £15 (average ticket price) = £375000 (less costs) 75000 / 2 = £150000 plus TV money £80000 = £230,000.
  3. Made me laugh when they said during the draw that it would be a Glasgow derby and they wondered who would be at home. I knew which team wouldn't be at home before the draw even started. On the plus side, their fans wont be able to steal any more balls from us after they go one up. Every year I hope for a run and some luck in the draw. Every year we get away draws against good teams. More than a bit fed up with it all tbh.
  4. Looks like we'll be asking a lot of Osman today in that line up.Hope he is up to it having just returned. 2-1 Jags.
  5. I think it depends on how established we feel as a club at any given point. The rising Thistle seems to attract more support than the stable Thistle. Agree also that it can depend on a 'good day out' type of feeling. Overall though I still feel our away support has been an incredibly biased number over the years. As usual will leave the stats to TJR, but I remember an incredible support at the following for example; Killie away in the cup a few years ago. We lost, maybe 3-0, and filled the whole away stand. Could have been 4000 Thistle. Dundee away many years ago in the first division. Won 2-1 to overtake them in the league. Isaac English scored I think? Great day apart from getting kicked off the train at Perth. Celtic away in the 2-1 win, early 90's. My Celtic mate says it's one of the largest away supports he'd seen. Motherwell away. The 3-2 win when they opened the Motorolla Stand. 2-0 down at half time as well. Great days and a massive shout out to the guys travelling on Saturday. Wish I could join you. Mon The Jags
  6. Can't think of many other teams anywhere with such an away to home support ratio.
  7. Agree, which is why I made the point of saying it.Can seem like a different game at times. The most bizarre experience I've had of this was the latest Scotland v England game. I watched at Hampden and then taped it on two different channels for when I got home. Think it was BBC and Sky or BT. One channel filmed from the dugout side of the pitch and the other from the North Stand side. I felt like I'd watched 3 different games. In 2 of the 3 I blamed Armstrong for the poor pass at the end that cost a goal. In 1 of the 3 I blamed Gordon for not coming for the cross. It could easily be that McGinn is doing more than it seems on the box and I hope he is
  8. A good summary from what I can tell. Only seen the games on Alba and Sky etc.Would add the following in addition to your comments. McGinn. Makes the easiest job on the pitch look difficult. Not much has been asked of him it seems and it isn't difficult to tackle and pass the ball 5 yards. Devine. From the centre back school of 'please can I be sweeper', cause I'd rather take no responsibility whatsoever. Edwards. Not my favourite type of player but could be useful if other players were doing their job. Can disrupt the opposition on a good day. The manager... No manager is faultless but Archie has provided Thistle fans with a great few years that I don't think we appreciate enough. One day we'll look back on this period with fondness. Now can we please just beat Rangers and win the Scottish Cup!!
  9. It comes as no surprise that the bottom two clubs are the ones that started the season with the worst run of fixtures possible. Ross County may buy their way out of trouble again and we've somehow managed to stay in touch despite an horrendous run of injuries. Hamilton will be wondering how they're only just above the drop zone after a good start and some good performances. I'd be worried if I were them. Will be a close run thing for who will join Hamilton in the bottom two but I think we'll have just enough to stay up.
  10. Great stuff and not sure we need to care about how pretty it looks at the moment. 5 from 6 home wins is excellent and despite some poor individual performances at times, something must be right. Keep it going Jags!!
  11. Can we not just get a 90th minute penalty or something?
  12. Loads of injuries, terrible form against Aberdeen, horrible dreich night, away from home, few fans. Ready made for a Thistle win.
  13. The type of game we win. I'm going 2-0 Thistle.
  14. Maybe he'd watched previous games against Celtic when we were losing and realised the only way to get the ball back from the crowd was to bounce it off a' one of their nappers.
  15. Was there too.Massive support in the old terracing. Maybe my best ever day at a live game. I remember there being about 8 minutes of injury time but they still couldn't equalize. Think that also may have been the game where Lambie played Davie Irons in a different role for the first time. Was it sweeper?
  16. What struck me most about the game was how bad our centre backs were, in particular Devine. I might be biased, as throughout my playing days, I hated centre backs trying to do anything but mark and tackle. Every one of them would rather be a sweeper and pull others in to do their job. To be fair to Archie, I think he set up to support in wider and more forward positions. I'm pretty sure he will be shocked and disgusted that his centre backs were powder puff. They were given their actual job to do as Barton was allowed forward more etc., and completely bottled it. I change my mind frequently as to where our weakest position is but these guys were asked to do their job without 3 other players 'helping' them, and really disappointed. Someone needs to give them a good shake and quickly.
  17. I think as teams have adopted a wing back style over the years, counter attacking has become more prevalent and more successful for most teams with intelligent quick thinking footballers. Not too many teams should get the joy of counter attacking against us as our wing backs cross the ball from the half way line. One thing that did interest me about Dundee was the way they collected most passes with their backs to goal. This can be normal for some hold up play type forwards, but they did it all over the park. It may have been a ploy against us as we are so impatient and dive in from behind instead of just holding them up so they need to go backwards.
  18. Great first half in which we done enough for the win. Second half was always gonna be all them but we kept our discipline and got a much needed 3 points. The difference for me from the 1st half is that we stood off a bit in order to protect our lead. It can be a long half if you do this and they score early. In the first half we were first to every ball and won every header. That along with the 3 great goals and it was a perfect half. We even had good support in wider positions. Very pleased and something to build on now.
  19. If we were capable of playing well for 90 minutes I'd be shocked by this. Dools, Erskine and Lawless are all impact players and would be great to be able to bring them on in the second half with the score still 0-0. Time will tell but I think this may be the idea. It seems we're hoping to make a 20 minute game of it and grab it at the end. Makes sense as we don't seem capable of playing well for longer than that at this time.
  20. They are very clever at getting away with fouls all over the pitch.I'll be on the look out for their favourite foul that's never punished, where our player jumps up for a header and they don't jump but nudge the player while he's in the air. Extremely dangerous but somehow never punished.
  21. Going to effectively watch it 'live' on Alba tomorrow at 10. 1-0 Thistle. 78th minute penalty
  22. Barton can only play in one position from what I've seen and hasn't been playing there.Edwards can break the play up but we need more than that at the moment. Cerny is a very good keeper that is having a bad run. All of the centre backs and the central midfield look poor at the minute. I think we have too many in there and would clear the middle a bit. Make the players take more responsibility. Too many of them waiting for the other to do something. I really hope they haven't chucked it because then it is only down to one person, the manager. We'll see in the next six games. Target 4 points from the first 3 and 4 points from the next 3. Anything less than 8 points and we could be in deep trouble come the New Year.
  23. I want to us to be where you think we already are.I'm not convinced we're anything more than an 11th to 9th placed team just yet. We are close to being established but are not quite there as yet. Top 6 last year was incredible for me and I'd happily just do enough to stay up while the building of a far better club goes on behind the scenes; investment in players, academy, training facilities and management team etc. Agree that new players are required in January and would prefer this to a new manager. Archie has never let us down before and we are close to being established because of him and the wider team. A new manager could do well but sacking one that has accomplished so much and has knocked back other offers to do so, wouldn't sit well with me.
  24. It's clear there are teams that would be top six even with our run of opening fixtures. It's not an excuse but it has made it difficult for us and the injuries haven't helped. IMO, we start the season with a chance of avoiding 11th place and are already on a knife edge with regards to completing this goal. Anything above 10th is an incredible feat for us. The run of fixtures and the injuries have made it more difficult this season but I still think Archie will adapt and learn for part two of the season. I've made no bones about who I think are players and who aren't and it seems some of the injured ones have more heart than those currently available. We are 1 month away from being able to add to the squad, although I keep reading that other teams have new players on a weekly basis. Maybe on loan? I only hope we can hang in until January and if so, I believe we'll be ok.
  25. It's funny because it's not a continuous record. It's a point in time chosen to suit a certain type of argument. I'm not defending some of the performances or even all of the tactics but don't think changing the manager is the answer at this point.
