  1. I just hope they don't end up as camp as Gary Tank Commander.
  2. Read this article, and it's difficult not to think, if even for a fleeting moment, of PeeTee....... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-13696862 Or is it really just me?
  3. I was wondering who woods tee off with the puns.
  4. I have a feeling that Campbell might turn out to be a big hit next season. He showed glimpses of excellence at the tail end of last season, getting down to the bye line and send in crosses, and even setting up real chances by working in along the 18-yard line. On a couple of occasions he did get caught out by trying to take the wrong option, but he'll already have learned by some of those scarier moments.
  5. It would be kind of amusing to see both ICT and RC both in the SPL at the expense of a "big" central belt or east coast team.
  6. And of course there is considerable debate about where the border precisely lies.......
  7. World poverty, global warming, and the origins of the universe could all be solved if we got these guys on the job.
  8. A wee song for him, with acknowledgement to Midnight Oil: The time has come To say fair's fair You came and went Pay back the shares The time has come And that's a fact They belong to us So give them back.
  9. I've been wondering the same thing.
  10. I wouldn't worry too much. It took several weeks for (at least some of) them to get sent out last season; I think mine arrived almost 4 weeks after the cheque was cleared. If it hasn't arrived by the time we're in the League Cup semi-final then I'd give Ami a call.
  11. That got me thinking about Thistle hard men. Who were they? My memory really only starts from the mid to late 60s, and I remember that Tommy Gibb would never draw out of a tackle. Then I remember that Ronnie Glavin was feart of nobody, and would in fact often give more than he got all during a match. Actually, and I've never mentioned this before, Charlie Smith (RIP) was pretty dirty. I saw him "niggle" a couple of guys when the ball was miles away and neither ref nor linesman was looking. And I distinctly remember him spitting in an opponent's face; first time I'd ever seen that. I was away for most of the 80's and 90s, but wasn't Steve Pitman meant to be hard? Who else, or who since?
  12. I'm usually one of the first to complain when I think the team has too many ageing players, but when you see how fit Rowser is, there should be little concern about him retaining that fitness for at least the next season, maybe even beyond. The two-year deal might have been what he demanded, or else he was offski. I reckon JM has got this one right.
  13. That's about how I saw it too, and it did give much-deserved recognition to Murphy. Yesterday I received Bobby Charlton's (latest?) autobiography as a birthday present. Really looking forward to reading it.
  14. As long as McCall is at Firhill, so will Hinchy, so it went......
  15. Yes, that was it. I watched it ( and half enjoyed it) all the way through because of the incredible story that it told, but I thought it was too laboured, painfully so at times. Also, as Busby's son said afterwards, Busby was portrayed as some kind of aloof, sheepskin-coated figure who flitted in and out just for pep talks, whereas in reality he was a tracksuited manager who got down to the nitty gritty of routines and practice with the players. But in the close season it's good to get almost any kind of football on the box!
  16. Is it true that the page will have a background track of Vera Lynn singing "We'll Meet Again"?
  17. Only interesting if the terrier is of the pit-bull variety. Alternatively, Dobermans (preferably rabid) would be a plausible alternative.
  18. Anybody watch the Brian Clough movie last night? I really quite enjoyed it, though as usual in football films, some of the characters weren't believable (e.g., Bremner). It was definitely superior to the Matt Busby one a few weeks ago. Anyway, is it just me, or did they portray the relationship between Clough and Taylor as just a wee bit too, err.... sentimental? Fascinating times, and the boy done great afterwards; in some ways a shame that the film didn't continue to show the European Cup triumphs with NF, but maybe actually more impactful with the simple statement at the end. Hope that didn't spoil the ending for anybody!
  19. Unfortunately, I don't think your first sentence is achievable. That would imply a highly successful team on the park, and those guys would be wanting higher salaries than we could ever pay. It's no secret that even the two most successful clubs in Scotland (and look at Man Utd) don't make ends meet even with all their merchandising etc. Your second sentence identifies the problem too. How can the board achieve this? By throwing money a-la Gretna? The last time we were in the SPL our crowds probably averaged around 4,000. Even at that we simply had to pay relatively low wages, or get into even greater financial trouble. I really think that we'll stay impoverished for the foreseeable future, unless a wealthy fan steps in and gives us a lot of money. So, we need to hope that the likes of Jackie can put together a team that somehow punches well above their weight, all the way to the SPL, in fact. Another hope is drawing the OF away from home in Cup competitions.
