So, from the above two posts, we have a weak squad, particularly without Bannigan, and Dunfermline are dreadful; we just need to neutralize Kane.
Looks pretty clear to me: Dunfermline to win 2-0.
(Promise to renew live stream subscriptions for next season if we win!)
I dunno too much about all of this, but I like it when a "white knight" appears and rescues their team (and we are an example of this, more times than once). I'm not sure where I was going with this, but `i always like to read about somebody wanting to sink (literally) money into their club, to keep them going....... just like investors/speculators in other markets, for their own reasons. It seems to be ok on the stock market, but some folk get their knickers in a twist about there being no "plan B" for football clubs.
Ever since I became a Jag more than 50 years ago, there have been news stories and rumours about financial crises, economic meltdowns and so on. (Who remembers STJ? I've still got pains from playing with younger guys all night long.) Some plans are more realistic than others. But PTFC continues to stand proud, and I suspect (hope) that it always will.
We will survive! (And hopefully prosper!)
Jim Oliver! I knew it, but just couldn't recall the name. I remember reading an interview where he said something like his wife was going to divorce him if he sank any more money into PTFC!
Good read!
I think we're already pretty good at sowing confusion on the pitch.
In fact we've perfected it to the point where our own players don't know what the f*** is going on or what they're supposed to do next.
I'm highly critical of how static we are as a team when we're in possession of the ball. Even when 2-0 down on Saturday, there were a couple of times when our midfielder with the ball was standing absolutely still, waiting for some kind of movement further ahead. And of course there's the famous sideways and turn-back-pass-back moves that our players appear to be absolutely addicted to. After several such passes we are usually no closer to the opposition's goal and therefore no nearer to scoring, or else we lose possession. Well, Newcastle's 4-1 win over Man U. has three excellent examples of how d'cking around in midfield or defence like that ("keeping possession") can lead to catastrophe.
Wow! front l and r: Gerry Collins, Danny Lennon
Behind the cake: John Lambie, Jimmy Aitken(?)
Then, l to r: Allan Cowan, Frank Ifield, Alan Rough, Brown McMaster, ?, Robert Reid, ?, Dave McParland, Murder MacLeod, Bertie Auld
Agreed about Crawford. I think that people should look more critically at Turner. He does nothing with the ball. If he doesn't lose control (awful first touches) or lose the ball itself, he makes totally useless passes to players who are beside or behind him. And a set piece "specialist" ? My backside! Utterly average or below average player, even at this level.
Hamilton launch two counter-attacks at pace, and score each time. Surprisingly poor defending at both goals. Turner's free kick which lost us possession for their second.... well, it doesn't surprise me; for me he can easily be replaced.... even a youngster will do. Same for Crawford.
We plod along sideways, short passes , turn around and pass it back. Eventually we get a good run from somebody, but not a single shot on target.
If we stumble into the playoffs (big if), we probably wouldn't get past the first round. We just don't seem to have any spark
Everybody too feart tae start the Accies match thread?
Here goes... I'll leave the poll to somebody else, as that's the real jinx.
As far as I can see, the only certainty is Robinson to score against us.
Other than that, I see a win for the Thistle, with Chalmers and at least A. N. Other scoring for us.
Another thread ruined.
Listen, I first noticed that annoying habit in Archie's interviews. It was so frequent that I stopped actually trying to understand what he was saying, and instead just waited for the next "Listen." It was, like, mental.
Like! don't get me started on "like"!!
A very familiar name around Firhill even to those of us who never knew him personally, clearly someone who contributed much to PTFC.
Condolences to Bobby's family and friends.
It's a great place, dragged down by a small number of spoilers.
Anyone know if there are any moves for a replacement forum?
P&B, X and the like just ain't for me.
As that fine Jags song goes: "I never knew how much I loved you, 'til you were gone."
Agree with that.
Whoever it turns out to be (if not BBG), the person will likely have a history of getting sacked because of poor performances/results. That's what being a football manager seems to be about..... try to do your best, hope for the best, but realize that a run of poor results will almost inevitably mean you're out the door, probably after no more than a year or two.
This is probably my main concern too: the notion that non-Scottish is de facto better than Scottish, and so we get guys that can't cut at wherever they're failed at before and they clearly can't cut it in Scotland either. There's a long history of this (and it's still going on), but anything like some of PTFC's previous non-Scots legends and heroes (Prudham, Lindau, Lyons.... others?) would do nicely, thank you!
Some might say that Graham is still in such good shape because he only plays half of every game; the other half he spends sitting on his erse with his hand up claiming for a foul. Needless to add: no foul took place.
Having said that, I'd like to have him around as a player for a while yet!
Hope the boys will have plenty of sh*ts on target today, including at least a few unstoppable ones.
Even one or two slipping out of their goalie's hands will be fine.
