Fair enough, if that's what you think. Do you really think that the likes of David Klein, Dave the Ukranian, Gabby Piccolo, Armand One, Mooc, among others, were signed without the expectation that they would improve upon what we already had, or that we could get among Scottish players? Stephan Bonnes? For me, it's more likely to have been "he's foreign, so probably better than average ("average" being Scottish!). Fortunately, occasionally we get somebody who does seem to be above average.

How could I forget John Gibson!!

Good question! Bobby Lawrie must have been no bigger than 5'5" or 5'6". Maybe not in the "gems" category, but fondly remembered wee players are John Flanagan, John Craig, James Grady, Alex Burns, and Paul Walker.

Remember that wonderful covid era evening game when we hammered Falkirk at Firhill? (Jags fans at the gate by the canal.). And the brilliant win at Falkirk when we won the league? I have a feeling that the Bairns are going to do something similar to us on Friday.

That doesn't stop some people blaming Doolan for the signing and contract.

Apologies for the half-inebriated response. I've seen names from various clubs (people who've done nothing (ZILCH) at their previous/current cub) being touted to take over. No! No thanks! Let guys who know our weaknesses and any strengths we might have take us forward.

Like so many other clubs, we just follow the trendy trend, which these days is the idea that for football, foreign must be better than home-spun, although we probably haven't been quite so prone to it as some others.

It also highlights how sickening our own performances have been and continue to be.

Dunfermline Athletic ⚪️⚫️ Vs Partick Thistle 🟡🔴
Jaggernaut replied to jagfox's topic in Main Jags forum
On the game: first, a pretty good defensive performance. Dunfermline were bigger, faster, stronger, but they really managed only one shot on target, near the very end (I could see it going in), but Mitchell saved it well. And although our "attacking" play was frankly gash, we stumbled onto a few chances, which their keeper saved or (with BBG's toe-ender) it hit the bar. Second, a draw was a fair result. We are not an attractive team to watch. All season long it has been boring, uninventive, repetitive, predictable mediocrity. Let's spoil Falkirk's party next week! -
Dunfermline Athletic ⚪️⚫️ Vs Partick Thistle 🟡🔴

Shortly after kick-off, I thought there was no way we'd survive without shipping a goal. But here we are, half-time, and in fact it's the Dunfermline goalie who has had to make a couple of good blocks. Fitzy should surely have scored when through alone on the keeper. We've had one corner and two free-kicks good for crossing, but in all three situations, the "cross" didn't get past the first defender. Very poor! But most of our play isn't very good, so 'Monra Jags! -
IMO, Doolan should still be our manager.

Dunfermline Athletic ⚪️⚫️ Vs Partick Thistle 🟡🔴

We once allowed them to score 10 against us at the end of the season and they thereby avoided relegation. Maybe brown envelopes will prevail...... -

Wish I'd seen the Quo live.... Love watching their performances on video. -
Dunfermline Athletic ⚪️⚫️ Vs Partick Thistle 🟡🔴

So, from the above two posts, we have a weak squad, particularly without Bannigan, and Dunfermline are dreadful; we just need to neutralize Kane. Looks pretty clear to me: Dunfermline to win 2-0. (Promise to renew live stream subscriptions for next season if we win!) -
Shouldn't laugh... (Inverness relegation thread)
Jaggernaut replied to Albert's Ghost's topic in Main Jags forum
I dunno too much about all of this, but I like it when a "white knight" appears and rescues their team (and we are an example of this, more times than once). I'm not sure where I was going with this, but `i always like to read about somebody wanting to sink (literally) money into their club, to keep them going....... just like investors/speculators in other markets, for their own reasons. It seems to be ok on the stock market, but some folk get their knickers in a twist about there being no "plan B" for football clubs. Ever since I became a Jag more than 50 years ago, there have been news stories and rumours about financial crises, economic meltdowns and so on. (Who remembers STJ? I've still got pains from playing with younger guys all night long.) Some plans are more realistic than others. But PTFC continues to stand proud, and I suspect (hope) that it always will. We will survive! (And hopefully prosper!) -
Jim Oliver! I knew it, but just couldn't recall the name. I remember reading an interview where he said something like his wife was going to divorce him if he sank any more money into PTFC!

Good read! I think we're already pretty good at sowing confusion on the pitch. In fact we've perfected it to the point where our own players don't know what the f*** is going on or what they're supposed to do next.

I'm highly critical of how static we are as a team when we're in possession of the ball. Even when 2-0 down on Saturday, there were a couple of times when our midfielder with the ball was standing absolutely still, waiting for some kind of movement further ahead. And of course there's the famous sideways and turn-back-pass-back moves that our players appear to be absolutely addicted to. After several such passes we are usually no closer to the opposition's goal and therefore no nearer to scoring, or else we lose possession. Well, Newcastle's 4-1 win over Man U. has three excellent examples of how d'cking around in midfield or defence like that ("keeping possession") can lead to catastrophe.

Wow! front l and r: Gerry Collins, Danny Lennon Behind the cake: John Lambie, Jimmy Aitken(?) Then, l to r: Allan Cowan, Frank Ifield, Alan Rough, Brown McMaster, ?, Robert Reid, ?, Dave McParland, Murder MacLeod, Bertie Auld

The manager said training was great.....
-
Agreed about Crawford. I think that people should look more critically at Turner. He does nothing with the ball. If he doesn't lose control (awful first touches) or lose the ball itself, he makes totally useless passes to players who are beside or behind him. And a set piece "specialist" ? My backside! Utterly average or below average player, even at this level.
-
Hamilton launch two counter-attacks at pace, and score each time. Surprisingly poor defending at both goals. Turner's free kick which lost us possession for their second.... well, it doesn't surprise me; for me he can easily be replaced.... even a youngster will do. Same for Crawford. We plod along sideways, short passes , turn around and pass it back. Eventually we get a good run from somebody, but not a single shot on target. If we stumble into the playoffs (big if), we probably wouldn't get past the first round. We just don't seem to have any spark
-
If there was somebody like that then we'd need to spend a lot of money to lure him from his present club! And pay him more!

Maybe (or definitely) the only time I've agreed fully with a post by this .... other poster.
