  2. If the football authorities ask for football to be stopped, then they are seeking to close. They will not qualify for this scheme, which is only for businesses told to close. Presumably the Premier League will need to continue because of the Sky contract, so you are only looking at lower league clubs. To have lower league clubs closing and seeking government funding is as artificial as it sounds. The new scheme is to be reviewed in January. How is the player and staff budget to be funded for the rest of the season if no more cash is forthcoming? There is the refunds of sponsorship, season tickets and no prize money. Also starting from zero for 21/22. The recent vote by clubs on a league to league basis was that all four SPFL divisions proceed. We should now get on with the shortened league programme we have. If things do become unworkable, then as long as half of league games are played, the league can be called. Let's ensure we are top at the half way stage and stay there. All clubs have now invested in squads and there will be difficulties ahead, but there will be clubs who release all of their playing staff if we mothball, and when it comes to 21/22 season, will have no cash reserves to start again and obtain players. Football has been promised some of the fund held by the SG for the arts football etc. Further funds will come via the Barnet formula for the recent aid to the English National League. I understand where you are coming from, but nobody ever seems to consider the true financial costs in shutting down.
  3. Ordered mine latish last night. I didn't expect it to arrive before the game tomorrow, but waiting for me when I got back today. As I live in the countryside, in a remote village, pleasantly surprised at the distributor's efficiency. Well produced, even including a two page spread by the PTFC Working Group. Looking at the player sponsorship for strips etc, I noticed that the Arrandale Hotel Ayr sponsor Ross Docherty. Nice to see an Ayr business sponsor Ross in these cash strapped times in the hospitality industry.
  4. A remake of Macbeth. King Malcolm III - Gerry Britton King Duncan - Ian McCall Donalbain - Gary Caldwell Lord Banquo - Alan Archibald Lady Macbeth & the three witches (all of them) J Low.
  5. Article on club website. Club will use a different streaming company with human operators for tomorrows game against QP. £10 cost.
  6. It took you 32 hours to think that one up?? Make that four.
  7. Willie Paul also turns up in one of the matches played on 6 October in today's archive home page - 3rd L.R.V. 2 Thistle 2 on 6 October 1888. Willie scored one of the goals, but the match was later abandoned with !feuds" and a pitch invasion. Willie was also special as he was an amateur for his whole career. Quite incredibly, he used to play for Queens Park or other amateur sides, if the Jags were not playing! A true Corinthian.
  8. Agree with EJ. In the Betfred Cup up to 5 substitutions are allowed , with an additional substitute if the game goes to extra time. If he's not in the starting lineup, the likes of Senna would be a useful sub. We can use our 5 wisely.
  9. Three. Dundee voted "yes". Wait a minute.......there's been a glitch in the SPFL "in" folder??
  10. From what I can see Celtic only loaned out 4 players. To Cove Rangers; Dunfermline; Dundee & Ross Co. Trick question - How many of these clubs were keen to end last season on Black Friday?
  11. Reports in many of the Scottish papers that at the meeting today between the JRG and the SG, a "substantial" sum of money will be given to clubs. Also a "roadmap" agreed for the return of fans to stadiums, with 6 months being seen as the earliest return date. The SFA and SPFL are issuing statements tonight on what was agreed with the SG. Lets hope that the SPL don't hog the cash!
  12. Who? Pinhead or O'Ware? Just for clarification.
  13. I agree with PTD and LIB, but in League 1 many of our opponents will have a packed defence and midfield. We will be expected to break this down, and here I agree with PTD that skilful and quick passing can get results. The difference is that conceding a goal will result in an even more packed defence. Having said that, plastic pitches make good passing more likely, and a quick passing game can overcome defences here. Good corners and free kicks are essential, as is defending such set plays. Our downfall last year.
  14. If AJ stores his vallies (valuables) in his balaclava, he's guaranteed nobody will breach his social distancing. They'll think he has mumps!
  15. On that basis m'lady, Ms J Low should get the Jags millions
  16. The question of funding for EFL sides is under discussion between EPL and Dept for Digital, Media Culture & Sport. The Dept is unwilling to fund the lower EFL league clubs, with the mega million transfers on the go. A newspaper disaster for the UK Gov were they to put millions into League clubs - even though the clubs that are struggling are the League 1 & 2 clubs, with casualties in recent seasons - Bury Macclesfield, and Wigan on the brink. The UK Gov "expects" EPL clubs to pass funds to the lower leagues, in much the same way that they "expected" the BBC to fund OAP licenses (saving the Chancellor quite a bit of cash). The EPL have much more clout that the BBC. They want something in return for their generosity, and it is by no means certain that the EPF will, if you'll pardon the pun, play ball. I understand that the "something" is crowd return, in some format. The National League sits under the EFL, and both the EFL and the National League come under the jurisdiction of the FA. They have received the £9 million (for a three month period). The Scottish situation is different, in that there is no expectation for SPL clubs to give any money to lower league clubs. So under Barnet, if Scottish football receives 10% of the £9 million, as additional funding, then it is up the Scottish Government to allocate the funding as they please. No doubt they will consult the SFA. If they divided that £0.9 million between 42 SPFL clubs, that would be £21,000 each (for three months). But lower Highland and Lowland League clubs would rightly seek some of the windfall cash also. Dividing £0.9 million between all of these clubs will help, but not by as much as all that. What happens in 3 months is in the lap of the gods, but potentially some other cash would be forthcoming IF National League clubs were to get more funding. The Dept of DMC & S has just dished out £650,000 to 42 independent cinemas, and part of a £30 million fund for independent cinemas, and as I said in an earlier tweet, is putting £1.5 billion into the arts. So I hope Scottish football get the help they need. I don't think any of this money will go north of the border without some sort of a fight on the UK Govs part. I also hope that they get fans into grounds sooner rather than later.
  17. I fully agree with you that the SG could decide not to make such funds available to football. From a distance my perception is that they are at worst hostile and more likely ambivalent to Scottish football. (e.g. The football "yellow card " , but sod all to rugby player breaches.) Perhaps consistent problems with the Ugly Sisters fans tints their perception of football. As you and AJ say, the SPFL are not to be trusted , with their SPL top heavy board, and past behaviour. So perhaps I'm whistling in the wind for financial aid. I'm sure the club's worse case budget, with no fans for the season won't include state aid.
  18. I'm not certain, but although I think that as DD has said, football is a media culture and sport is a devolved area, the SPFL have been totally silent about trying to get government aid. The money mentioned is going to the National league, but there are ongoing discussions for the EPLto provide some assistance for English leagues 1 & 2. Despite UK government hopes that such funding may come about, it is by no means certain. Highland and Lowland leagues are probably the equivalent to the ENL, but there is no chance of SPL clubs funding lower leagues1 & 2. I may be wrong, but I thought there was a Barnet Formula knock on that the Scottish government could get, and all lower league Scottish clubs could benefit from.
  19. I remember Jags Mag . Done on a cream coloured paper. 5p, if I recall properly. Remember the old programmes before then, in a vile orange coloured paper? We used to include a "free" English football mag in one of our other programmes for a while.
  20. English National League clubs get a UK government £10 million grant to cover then for fan non-attendance. This is for a 3 month period, with the possibility of more to follow. SPFL - come in SPFL, can you hear me?
  21. Ended that way. Amen. Not long to get the streaming actually working.
  22. According to Hearts Kickback, 1 - 0 to Hearts. Walker.
  23. I think, tbh, the livestream is still a moveable feast. Better to get it right for Cup & league games before charging. Some Jambos have already donated to the Gofundme page already today. Pleasing to see. Maybe BB can get a plug on Kickback for his redyellow.org maroon teeshirts, with the keep football tidy (SPFL in the bin) . The more the merrier!
  24. Alb, it says in the article that the game starts at 2 pm. I can't see any reference to the game being changed to an evening ko.
  25. Its shown in The Thistle Archive homepage starting at 14:00, i.e. 2 pm.
