Annus Horribilis 2018 Part One

Recommended Posts

As football fans we naturally tend to look back season on season. There's one calendar year, tho', that stands out for all the wrong reasons, 2018.
Miserable as it was to witness relegation from the top tier and later see a legend in Alan Archibald leave the Club, both events were dwarfed with the sad passing of John Lambie and Davie McParland.  The following is an irreverent look back over 2018 and in no way meant as disrespectful of aforementioned. In logging this I've mainly used the PTFC News as points of reference. 2019 so far has been in no way as depressing. Long  may that continue. In a roundabout way the despair of last year should  cheer us up as this one can't be as bad.

January 2018.
Like many horror stories things start off peacefully enough. After all  we're used to slow starts to a season by now. The squad jet off to Spain for team bonding & conditioning.  Long term injured key players are set to return and even Connor Sammon is knocking in the goals. A cup win at Palmerston and indeed things are looking up.

February 2018
For his goals success The Fish is offered a pizza for every goal he scores. Needless to say his supply of pizza soon dries up.
Miles Storey meantime is "hoping for a Hampden return". The following day alas his cup dream is all but over when we trail Celtic 0-2 after 9 minutes

March 2018
The hopes of fans that injury returnees, most notably Big Abdul, will shake things up are all but over. Another returnee, Gary Fraser leaves on loan.
Still not all gloom and doom, Kingsley retains his Mascot of the Year award.

April 2018
Talking of awards Squiddy is embarrassed to receive the PotY.  Meantime Maxie is heading for pastures new at the SFA (where some say he take theses initials too seriously).

May 2018
Hindsight time but our failure to score a solitary goal v Motherwell at Firhill ultimately paves our way for the play offs and relegation.                                                                                             And just prior to that relegation- Barton: Everyone is pushing for the same goal.  I'm not sure you're correct, Adam, but to be kind everyone is pushing many times harder than you are, you lazy disinterested *******.

June 2018
Gerry B new chief exec, Boardroom changes, Alan Rough joins new board. What's not to like?  Hey, Cerny is replaced by Cammy Bell. What's not to like?

Part 2 to follow.
