Was trying to take my mind off yesterdays little disappointment, when it dawned on me that this is my 21st season at firhill.

So i came up with my favourite 11 players that i had seen in the flesh.maybe they werent the best but my favs never the less.

So in a 4-4-2 formation we have.

1 Nicky Walker Prob best keeper in my time.

2 Kevin Mckee Took his time, but turned out a really good defender.

3 Paul Deas Wonderful left foot

4 Scott Patterson Doubt i need to comment

5 Steve Welsh Solid.Reliable and a bit of pace

6 Derek Mcwilliams Loved him

7 Alex Taylor Great engine.Scored goals

8 Chic Just because its Chic

9 Roddy Grant If he had pace, would of been worth £1 million

10 George Shaw Never gave defenders peace.Scored goals

11 Ian Cameron Prob most skilful player in my time

12 Craig Nelson I thought he was a good keeper

13 Davie Irons Could play midfield or centre half with ease

14 David Moss Remember him.Excellent midfielder.Scored a lot of goals

15 Alan Morgan Would of been a great

16 Quinton Jacobs Scored from a corner, enough said.

It wasnt easy picking them, especially when i see some of the names left out,and no doubt u lot will mention, but as i said my fav 11, i think

PS:I have been on the forum less than a year,so apologies if this has been done before.

I started going in 92-93 season. My team would pretty much be that one, absolutely brilliant team, maybe I'm just being nostalgic.

Walker - loved him, my favourite jags player of all time pure and simple.

Dinnie-solid at right back after shaky start.

Pitman-a rich mans boab mcculloch!

Jamieson-superb, gutted when we lost him to hearts, but right enough we wouldn't have got walker otherwise.

Craigan-no nonsense defender, how many former players do we have that have starred in wins over spain and england?

then in midfield,

cameron-classy player

chico-genius

alby craig-best goalscoring midfielder we've ever had, for me, light years ahead of hardie in terms of quality.

harkins-i know some people weren't that fussed with him, and hate him for going to dundee. but for the seasons he was with us, i just loved the guy. disappointed he's not at a bigger club than killie, seems to have went off the boil since he left us.

up front, i love gerry britton, and roddy grant. i know theres no pace there, but two fantastic players for us.

on the bench, i could list 50 names.

but heres my 5.

nelson-crackin keeper.

grady-only had him for one season, but i can't remember a better individual season from someone for thistle, absolutely outstanding player for us.

rowson-love big davie, one of my favourites.

marko-i know im sticking with the no pace thing, but this is a favourites team, not bothering about whether it would actually win.

super dan-legend.

near misses-few players i liked but didnt make it, like andy lyons, mcwilliams, davie moss, stevie welsh, gregg watson(one mistake doesnt change the fact he was a good player for us, well i think!) geordie shaw, callum milne, hardie, trigger, archie, flea, gareth evans, davie farrell (i thought he was a fantastic centre back for us, awful midfielder, but we moved him back to centre half i thought he was great in a poor team). shaggy. ach too many to mention i need to go to bed.

by the way was it just me that thought davie farrell was a good player? I also liked nicky henderson.

Still struggling to come up with a team but given thornwood jags time frame I'd add Kenny Arthur and Boab McCulloch to my previous list of one (Mark Roberts). I can think of at least three better keepers than Kenny over that time but not one as committed. Boab wasn't with us that long but I think his presence was all important.

Without much thought, as hardly necessary, I'd add in Shaggy, The Ghost and Chic.

btw I hope this thread doesn't get hijacked by folk posting their best eleven ever. That really has been done to death.

What I meant was in your own personnel timeframe.

I didn't start going till 1990,so couldn't pick anybody from the 80's or the 1971 team.

Does that explain it a bit better?

Your team reminded me of one of my all time favourite songs and picture of a thistle player. After clinching promotion, one of the papers had a full page picture of Gordon Rae in the jags dressing room. He was sitting there chiiled as can be drinking out a huge bottle of champagne. That pic was on my bedroom wall for ages.

"HE'S FAT, HE'S ROUND, HE's WORTH A MILLION POUND, GORDON RAE, GORDON RAE !!!

Loved Paul Kinnaird. During late 80's and early 90's Garry Peebles was my favourite player....dad and I used to argue all the time as to who gave more in a jags shirt...Bobby Law or Garry Peebles. Looking back, at the time it was good we had both.

You have two in there that you have to wonder just how good they could have been for us if not for injury. John Flood and Alan Morgan. Such a waste.

5-3-2

1) Andy Murdoch

Bought my old man and I a pint on Byres Rd when I was underage. “Hash smoking polis, oh he’s a hash smoking polis…”

2) Andy Wilkinson

Pished beside him in the porta-cabin toilest at Dingwall, he jumped over for a slash with Madaschi while they were warming up. Top bloke, committed to the cause.

3) Grant Tierney

Machine. Legend.

4) Willie Jamieson

Fuzzy machine. Legend.

5) Shaggy

That goal at Inverness still makes me aroused

6) Bobby Law

Typifies the Jags for me. Rave on.

7) Danny Lennon

Captain marvellous

8) Albert Craig

Magic

9) Ian Cameron

Devilishly handsome, his wife Wendy is a goddess – legend of a left foot.

10) Pat Kelly

Put 2 past the Killie in 86 and shouted “f*ck yes” right in my face

11) Geordie Shaw

Celtic net

Subs:

Stephen Craigan - Future manager for sure

Martin Hardie - Super-sub

James Grady - Forever a danger in the penalty box

Gerry Britton - Scored the best goal I’ve ever seen Thistle score

Kenny Arthur - Not the most gifted but definitely the most committed number 1

I started going in 92-93 season.

Same here, although I going to opt not to pick any of the players in this season or a couple of years after, as I can only remember a couple of games.

My favourite team:

Fox

Craigan - Paterson - Archibald

Hardie - Lennon - Cameron - Lyons

Lindau

Britton - Morgan

Subs:

Arthur

McNally

Craig (2nd division era)

Evans

Roberts

Very attacking side, ran out of favourite defenders and midfielders.
