FIFA Women's U-20 World Cup in Japan has begun.

Today the DPRK played Norway. The number of Norway supporters was less than 10. I talked to them in English.

"Hi, are you working in Japan?" "No, we have traveled to support Norway's team." "I support Tromsø in Norway." "Oh, Tromsø!" etc etc,

The Musical band of Korean school, football team members of Korean school, and other Koreans were there. I met a coach of the DPRK's Boxing national team. He boasted the number of Korean professional boxers.

The game was won by the DPRK 4-2. The DPRK's most important offensive player received an unnecessary yellow card for simulation, and the DPRK conceded 1 unnecessary goal from an unnecessary back-pass and GK's mistake. However Norway's team did not have enough stamina to keep the pace in the hot condition. (The game started at 16:00 under the sun)

However, unfortunately, the DPRK have been disqualified for the 2015 World Cup because of the doping problem. I hope the DPRK's triumph in 2019.

The DPRK thrashed Argentina 9-0.

The game was completely one-sided, but the DPRK received a completely unnecessary yellow-card when the score was already 3-0.

The DPRK scored 7 goals in the 1st half. The 9th goal was 56min. After the 9th goal, the DPRK players were in the "power-saving" mode, not making much effort to score the 10th.

One surprising result was there were only 2 corners in the game (1 for DPRK, 1 for Argentina).

Norway 2-1 Canada

By this result the DPRK's 1st finish of the group stage is almost certain.

The DPRK only need a draw with Canada in the last game. Even if the DPRK were beaten by Canada, the goal difference is enough to finish 1st.

However, the draw of quarter-final is tough. The opponent team will be Germany or USA. Both are the top ranked teams in women's football.

By the way, Japan played first 2 games at Miyagi Stadium. The 3rd game will be played at the National Stadium in Tokyo.

Japan 4-1 México

Japan 2-2 Aotearoa/New Zealand

Although Japan failed to beat Aotearoa/New Zealand, the 1st finish is likely because the last game against Helvetia (Switzerland) seems an easy one.

The Miyagi Stadium is a tremendous garbage. The accesss to the Miyagi Stadium by public transportation is incredibly inconvenient, and it is an athletic stadium designed by a bad architect whose pitch is incredibly far from the seats.

This stadium was the place of Japan's defeat (0-1 to Turkey) in the 2002 World Cup.

There is another good option -- Yurtec Stadium, a very good football stadium whose access by public transportation is convenient.

http://www.city.sendai.jp/kensetsu/kouen/stadium.html

This stadium is used by a professional football club in the top-flight.

Why such a situation has appeared? The reason is a strange bureaucratic system of local autonomy. Japan has 47 prefectures. However, there are some special cities whose populations are large. These cities have almost same power as prefectures, while belonging to prefectures.

In the 2002 World Cup, what was needed was to build a 40,000-seated stadium in the place of Yurtec Stadium. However, because of ridiculous conflict between Sendai City and Miyagi Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture build the Miyagi Stadium, a huge waste.

The reason this stadium is still used is to hide the ridiculous nature of the decision of building this huge garbage.

The final games of the group stage

Japan 4-0 Helvetia (Switzerland)

México 4-0 Aotearoa/New Zealand

Japan finished 1st and México finished 2nd. Japan face the Republic of Korea and México face Nigeria in the quarter-finals.

Japan's free-kicker TANAKA Yôko was incredible. She scored 2 goals from free-kicks by both legs.

And Helvetia's GK was a quality player. If she was a normal player Japan would have scored 8.

Tomorrow the DPRK will play Canada and the 1st finish is almost certain. In the quarter-final the DPRK will face Deutschland (Germany) or USA. It will be a tough tie.

Quarter-final

Japan 3-1 Korea, Republic of

All 4 goals were scored in the 1st half. Japan's SIBATA scored the 1st goal (8mins). Korea equalised in 15mins, but Japan's SIBATA scored her 2nd 4mins later. And Japan's free-kicker TANAKA scored 4th in 37mins.

Japan face the winners of tomorrow's quarter-final game between Deutschland (Germany) and Norge/Noreg (Norway). Deutschland's win is almost certain. Japan will have a hard game against Deutschland to reach to the final.

3rd place playoff

Japan 2-1 Nigeria

Physically Nigeria were stronger; but Japan had more quality.

By the way, the sinbin rule must be introduced to football immediately. In this game, Japan received no yellow but Nigeria received 3. If there was a sinbin rule, Japan would have scored more.

Now that's not a bad idea!
