He's pride of place In the (highly recommended) Verdant Works in Dundee ! . In the section towards the end concerning why synthetic fibres are in use now and we're now no longer all wearing Jute T-shirts ! - I have no idea why they used a Partick Thistle picture to illustrate this though...

Oddly enough I remember his goal too from the 'infamous' game .. a peach... my pal got me a job in the turnstyles on the Main stand that day and after he scored it he ran over to the only Thistle fans in the Main Stand - about the 12 of us who had just finished our stint - to celebrate ! - shame about the rest of the match really!

My other claim to fame is that a few days later I got through on a phone in with the terrible ref from that day - who retired if memory serves me right - anyways on Real radio I got to ask him whether he effectively got 1 of his yellow cards simply because of the particular opposition we were playing that day and if we were playing anyone else at all in Scotland would he have been sent off ! -ggrrr as I write this I still sound bitter years later ha! ! :-) !

I remember one beautiful summer's day, Rod scored a hat-trick away at Berwick in the League Cup. At half time I spotted a photographer mate working behind the goal line and three of us went and spent the second half sitting with him and watching the game. Rod scored his third and ran over to celebrate with us. I fully expected us to at least get escorted off the pitch but no, we resumed our seats on our patch of turf and carried on pretending to be photographer's assistants. Strange day that. Think we won 7-1.
