stuthejag
Most goals conceded in a League campaign (total) 1908-09 • 102 1938-39 • 87 1969-70 • 82 1959-60 • 78 1933-34 • 78 1926-27 • 74 1925-26 • 73 1935-36 • 72 notes: Seems 1908-09 (the Ibrox season) was the biggest nightmare in our history... Garscube Road End
The "Ibrox season" ? Thistle had moved out of Meadowside, but hadn't a ground to play in. They were offered Ibrox for a season until Firhill came up.
Garscube Road End
Both of the previous points stats are inherently flawed mind you, what with the varying number of games played. The next two queries level the playing field against all-history... Highest % of points won in a League campaign (when 3 points for a win is theoretically applied to all seasons) 1896-97 • 83.33% (Committee) 1899-00 • 79.63% (Committee) 1975-76 • 74.36% (Bertie Auld) 1970-71 • 73.15% (Davie McParland) 2012-13 • 72.22% (Alan Archibald) 2000-01 • 69.44% (John Lambie) 1930-31 • 67.54% (Donald Turner) 1901-02 • 65.15% (Committee) 1962-63 • 64.71% (Willie Thornton) 2001-02 • 61.11% (John Lambie) 1991-92 • 60.61% (John Lambie) 1982-83 • 58.97% (Peter Cormack) The conditions are fair for this query. According to the stats these are THEE greatest 12 Thistle League seasons of all-time. Wee Bertie's team played a stormer in '75-'76. Best modern day League season according to the stats. In case there was any doubt as to the great Lambini's godlike genius, here's the proof. Under Lambie, Thistle were led to League glory more often than with any other manager in our history. Peter Cormack's Jags were unlucky not to bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking. Despite a good campaign St.Johnstone and Hearts were too hot. Only two of the all-time great League season stats were achieved in the top flight of Scottish football. In my opinion, Donald Turner's 1930-31 campaign and Willie Thornton's 1962-63 campaign stand as the greatest feats in the list. Same query applying 2 points per win across all seasons makes no change to the order of the Top 12 seasons listed. So the moral is, Who needs a manager? stuthejag
Played home games at Ibrox, Celtic Park, Shawfield, Hampden and Easter Road. We even managed to pi55 of West Calder Swifts that they refused to play a 1st Rd Scottish Cup tie replay at Shawfield or Tynecastle, this was after Thistle played our home tie at their ground then complained about the ground not being up to standard for the replay.... The Jukebox Rebel
Firhill hosted the first European Cup game to be played in Scotland. Nice one Jagfox. One is very proud. And I liked the Chic angle. Freak out, le freak, c'est chic! Our groovy four-spell silky-soccer cult-hero took his final, final, final, final final bow at the ripe old age of 43 when he came out of retirement to play in Kenny Arthur's testimonial. Who could have scripted the finish? Trailing Celtic 2-1, we're into injury time and bang, Chic blasts home a 25 yard screamer and it's 2-2! Way to go Chico... Wednesday, 2 August 2006, Partick Thistle 2 Celtic 2. Chic's swansong at 3 minutes...
The Jukebox Rebel
James Charnley, next ... Great site Stu, like a walk around wonderland in there. Had to laugh at that West Calder Swifts story. Seems the Hibs and the Hearts have had it for The Jags for a longer time than even I first thought... Right, question for you then. Chic had four spells as a player at Thistle. Is that a club record?

The Jukebox Rebel
For geeks, the Scotsman has a page up: http://www.scotsman....mbers-1-3012985 Quite like the look of this one... "The side in 11th will enter the relegation play-off. St Mirren have finished 11th in 4 of the 7 seasons since they were promoted." Danny's jaikit's oan a shoogily peg... We actually won 2 league games in that abandoned season, meaning when we beat Dundee United on the 2nd August it'll be 1000 top flight league wins!!! Re: The 5 games from the abandoned 1939-40 SFL season and, for that matter, the 7 subsequent Western League / Southern League seasons. A bit of a statsman's dilemma... damned if they do and damned if they don't include them... On the issue, acknowledged football historian and writer, David Ross has this to say: "I have not included games played in 1939-40 to 1945-46 as these are not regarded as official by the Scottish League." http://www.scottishleague.net/author.htm The all-time Top Tier table at statto.com shows Thistle in 10th position with 997 wins... http://www.statto.com/football/stats/scotland/premier-league/all-time-table/full I think I'll adopt a double celebration position with an unofficial post-United toast and an official post-Hearts toast... if all goes to plan
The Jukebox Rebel
Weel done St Johnstone... they were on a knifes edge for 70 minutes last minute but were resilient...
